What are we looking for in a RB?

1) Excellent vision - A RB MUST have this...or he's useless

2) Instinctiveness - A good RB displays patience and is also able to 'feel' pressure coming down on him

3) Change of direction - The most important kind of speed a RB can have is change of direction speed

4) Vertical speed - Least important for a RB to have. Great timed speed doesn't necessarily mean great RB

well i think thats what every team looks for in a RB. but what are we looking for in a RB that would make him fit our system? speedy and elusive? or more straight line speed? more power?

I think we want/need a RB that's very decisive and knows where he wants to go with the football. Vertical speed isn't that big of an issue, to me anyway. As long as he doesn't run a 4.7 or something like that. He should couple his decisiveness with some raw power between the tackles.

Chauncey Washington (6'0" 215, 4.55-ish) is a perfect example of the type of RB we're looking for, if you're looking in Rounds 3-4.

If you're going Round 1, Johnathan Stewart fits nicely with this.

A little later? Ray Rice also fits.

I just don't want a pinball-type runner who prefers to run east-west more than he does north-south.

made me laugh! :D good one.

I don't know who is out there but i would like to see this in our running back core.

Someone like Brandon Jacobs. His build and style.Plus a guy like domanic Davis who could catch a lot out of the backfield (ie westbrook or ronnie brown)

-----------------
RB's take such a pounding, that to keep two healthy you have two good backs that you can depend on every game. One large straight line with speed finisher.
And a sleek young buck with a lot of raw talent who can catch the ball and go. Must be in excellent physical condition with good attitude!

-------------------
That's what i am looking for in rb.

edit:Also, for a 3rd back, A guy like ruben drougns who could guarantee you those 3rd and 4th and one's. That is a must. We can find that already in the league next year.

EDIT2: Okay now i have thought about this before...on short yardage situations why not put Mario Williams back there and let him go for a yard. No way he does not get a yard. Let's use our talent whereever they can help out. This season is going to need some creativity to pull out a playoff berth.

or Slaton...depending on where we pick from. As long as the guy has some burst and ability to catch out of the backfield when need be.

Steve Slaton would be a great addition to the team. I am really anxious for the Texans to get a running back that can really grind-it-out. Of course, Domanick (Davis) Williams showed that a quality back does not have to come from the first round.
Some where on this board I saw someone mention Kalvin McRae (Ohio) as another RB that might be worth taking a look at. I am sure he will go in the later rounds of the draft (if he goes at all) but he has put up great numbers for the past 3 seasons. I believe there is plenty of talent out there.
