I think our best option would be to trade down and get a 2nd rounder. San Fransisco has a late 1st (probably 30th pick) and an early 2nd rounder (maybe 37th overall).

I would propose we take Reggie Smith, the DB from OU with our 1st pick should he fall that far. He's the #2 rated CB overall behind Malcolm Jenkins and we need a CB now that Dunta is out for possibly half of next year. Now, Reggie Smith also has Safety experience, and if/when Dunta comes back at 100%, we can move Smith to free safety.

With the 2nd round pick, I would say take the best available OT, most likely Chris Williams.

The 3rd rounder would be used on the best available player. Either LB, DE, or RB. Lawrence Jackson, Tavares Gooden, Chris Ellis, Cory Boyd, Beau Bell...alot of guys could fill our holes.

I'm looking forward to seeing what we do in free agency with some cap space. I still feel like we need to take a tackle in the 1st.

I feel that we should see what we can accomplish in free agency. If we can find a healthy, veteran DB that would be great. Than we focus on more of our teams needs in the draft. But we need more than just fresh out of college talent.

id love to see us get Asante Samuel, but when Dunta comes back, what do you do with Bennett? Cheap talent is one way to build a team. Do we look for a 1 year stop gap?

i really like Reggie Smith because of his ability to play both CB and S...and do it well. it would also solve alot of problems about who plays where and what not.

i like DB Charles Godfrey as well, but i don't think he can play CB in the pros, even though he has all the tools. he's strictly a FS in my book, which is why I'd rather take Reggie Smith in the 1st.

it's also a deep draft for OT, and a high 2nd rounder can still get someone good.

I wasn't aware of the fact that it was a deep OT draft. That is music to my ears. If that is true, I can live with BPA in the 1st and draft a OT in the 2nd or 3rd. Supposedly RB is deep this year too. I hope we don't draft a RB in the 1st.

If your plan of trading down happened and you picked Reggie Smith with the 1st pick, I would use the 2nd pick on a Center like Alex Mack, Cal, or Mike Pollak, Arizona St. Then you can get your LT in the 3rd round. Chris Williams is projected, at this time, to go in the 3rd round. But if he's not there we could get Max Unger, Oregon, Chad Rinehart, Northern Iowa, or Duane Brown, Virginia Tech. Unger and Brown are both considered good fits for a ZB scheme.

The main reason I would rather get a Center before the LT is that I think we need one badly, and usually most of the good Centers (maybe 1 or 2 per draft) are gone by the 3rd round. And with LT's being deep in this draft, I think we can still get a good one in the 3rd round. Since Flanagan and McKinney are old and so injury prone, and White is our only backup to them, I think it should be a top priority in this coming draft. Also, I don't think FA is going to be much help to us in the O-Line department. Teams usually don't let their good Centers and LT's go. If they do, we should question why! JMHO!

If we did trade down with SF then there is no way I would not only piok up only a 2nd rounder, but a 3rd as well. Seeing that we will have somewhere in the range of 1500-1200 trade value points which we would have if we fall between the 7th to 12th overall pick in the 1st rd. That would give us somewhere around the 30th to 32nd 1st rd pick at 620-590 pts + the 39th 2nd rd pick at 510 pts + the 71st 3rd rd pick at 235. Giving us a total of 1365 to 1335 pts which to me is fair value w/ the addition of the extra 3rd rounder.

I like your 1st two rounds, I was hoping for a 2nd and 3rd for that large of a drop, but the earlier 2nd might mean we take and extra 4th rounder.

Smart thinking on taking Smith, he is versatile and that can come in handy. I like Talib also as a CB/returner, and Williams is a solid OT prospect that looks to project to the LT position. In the 3rd I like a few RBs Chris Johnson, East Carolina might fall to the 3rd, he is flying below the radar, and has been timed at a real 4.2. Allen Patrick, Oklahoma and Dantrell Savage, Oklahoma State would both be upgrades to our pitiful RB situation.

i really doubt reggie smith falls down to the 30th pick. we definitely need another DB because we already lack depth.

1- Ryan Clady/Sam Baker OT
3- Cory Boyd RB
4- Charles Godfrey FS
5- Glenn Sharpe CB
6- Center

Glenn Sharpe has had a tough time dealing with injuries, but he's a 4.4 guy with the ability to cover. The only reason he falls that far are because of injuries

Sharpe is projected as a 4th rounder so I think he would be around, but I would like to see us go after a guy like Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, of Tennessee State. He will probably be there in the 3rd only because he comes from a small school.
Height: 6-2. Weight: 182.
40 Time: 4.37.

Could you imagine if we drafted Malcolm Jenkins and signed Asante Samuel? That would make for an insane trio of CBs on this team. (Jenkins, Samuel, Bennett, Robinson ??injury??)

then take LB tavares gooden in the 3rd

FS charles godfrey in the 4th

CB glenn sharpe in the 5th

I doubt a team would give up that many picks in one draft. It would probably be something like their 1st and 2nd this year and a 3rd next year or something.

I think your idea is good. This draft seems be loaded with CB talent to for the first day. Malcolm Jenkins, Mike Jenkins, Aqib Talib, Reggie Smith, Antoine Cason, etc ...they should all go probably top 50 so we would have a pick of some of them.

I change my view on who we should draft constantly...right now Malcolm Jenkins is really starting to look like a good choice. I would love a trade down though and think that the proposed trade down would be best for this team.
