Before everyone shoots at me hear me out. My first question is, will Dixon be selected in the 1st round?
I'm thinking he is not. However what I've seen from him reminds me of VY. Number and everything. If say he were to be available in the 3rd round, considering our needs at OL, RB and DB would it be a good idea to draft this dude?
I think I wouldn't be mad at that idea. Schaub is the man but it would be nice to have someone grooming in the back just in case it never works out.

I like where you're going with this idea, but Dennis Dixon is rapidly shooting up everyone's draft boards with his impressive showing this season. If he turns out to be there in the 3rd Round I would love to have him on this team.

Who knows what could happen? Maybe after a couple of years he gets a shot to start due to injury to Matt or whatever, and performs extremely well. People start thinking to themselves, "We can trade Matt now because Dennis is doing so well.". You've always got to think towards the future. Sage Rosenfels is a good backup, nothing more. We all know that. Dennis Dixon would start out as a backup, but maybe he turns out to be the next Doug Williams. You never can tell.

Better arm than Vince. Much better. I better not hear anyone compare him to Young.

Why can't you compare him to Vince. Look at how he plays and look how Vince plays. The only real difference is this kid will sit in the pocket and throw it vs. automatically take off.

I would have to go back to the San Diego Chargers who did this pretty much both times. 1st they had Flutie who was playing extremely well and drafted Brees, then they had Brees who played very well and drafted Rivers.
It makes your team better by always having a back up plan and making your team leader know he will have to work and continue to fight. It is also a matter of drafting a playmaker. Playmakers win games.

I can see where you are going with this, However I have to put knock on him because he runs a spread offense. A QB that runs the spread offense in college usually struggles mightily in the pros. I say pass on him, mentally this could negatively impact Schaub being so early in his development as the team starter. He does not need the pressure of QB contraversy in year 2 as a texan. While I have stated that he doesnt have that IT factor that you want your franchise QB to have, I am not ready to cut ties especially with all we have invested.
I wouldn't mind taking a look at his backup though Brady Leaf. That kid has as much if not more arm strength than his troublesome older brother. Not to mention he'll be available after the draft. My question with him is he fluid enough on his feet to run the west coast?

I hear you on the chemistry. Looks like it played a roll in San Diego as well but in the end it worked out for both QBs and the team.

VY is not a bust. This kid could be the bust everyone wanted Vince to be.

Actually, most people were calling Drew Brees a borderline bust when Rivers was drafted. He didn't start playing well until the next season. Maybe he saw something in his rearview mirror ...
