True, but being a 'big time' Christian and all, I keep expecting David--in the 'true' Christian way, to say 1 nice thing about the Texans. I think most folks would...but he is gone!! PTL

so does any watch extra point? there was a clip of carr being asked why he wears gloves.

he said he wears the gloves cause when he licks his fingertips andplaces them under the center. the area he touches is a hygenicnightmare.

seriously, has anyone ever thought about that before!!?? i mean comeon, the center is wearing pants. does this mean DC wear gloveswhen he uses the head? that had to be one the dumbest thing ihave ever heard carr say. i mean WOW.

ummm.... Carr didn't start wearing gloves until Kubiak got on him about his fumbling. He started wearing gloves - on one hand - because he thought that might help his grip.
Just to make sure my ancient brain cells weren't unusually faulty, I googled David Carr images. More non-glove picts than picts with him wearing gloves. And all the glove picts I could find are from the 2006 season.
Now I ain't sayin' DC-Born Again lied.....
I'll just say that maybe this "hygenic" thing is a recent "revelation" for him. Like "having fun" again.

Oh I don't doubt he said it. So it wasn't the accuracy of your post that I was questioning. It was his response. And I agree with you, I think that is one of the weirdest things I've ever heard a QB say. He's been playing QB for most of his life and NOW he needs gloves??
And I'm almost certain he started wearing them because THIS coaching staff suggested they might reduce his fumbling.
Its yet another way to slight Houston: He won't acknowledge that Kubiak actually gave him any sort of tip or lesson that helped improve his game.

He wore the gloves because he fumbled a lot, and it might help his grip. Now it's just become a part of him, and he's sure that it helps him.
You don't "not" wear gloves all your life and then suddenly decide or have the big revelation that your fingers are yucky all of a sudden.
He doesn't want to admit that the gloves are from fumbling, IMO. He's used to them now. He probably thinks they really do help him, but I think he's adopted this "yucky fingers" idea so that it helps his confidence. And theYucky Fingers theory can deflect any media attention that might be given toward his fumbling issue. I mean, the guy fumbled A LOT last season. No debating it, no need to try and spin it as if he didn't. Gave a TD to Oakland on one of them.
Let's understand that with David, there is always some other force at work that causes him to come up short--O line, the need for gloves, etc.
It's good that he has a Public Relations staff here on this board to make sure we know that we're always "hating" on him. It's never his fault, of course, for the things he says or does. Nope, there's always something else that caused him to come up short. And we're evil people for pointing out his inability to just say "I need to step it up...I need to prove the doubters wrong."

...gotta love Carr's math- # of consequitive (sp) years starting at qb
2(FS) + 5(Texans)= 10
...probably just forgot he didn't play at all in '99 (red shirt year?) and before that had not started since high school

I find a lot of what Carr says to be kind of ridiculous. Almost all of it is polarizing, and I am not exactly sure that it reflects what he truly thinks. I think he has learned to try and say all of the right things, but because he was so emphatic about everything being wonderful in Houston, he now has to separate himself from it by saying that it was terrible, and now everything is wonderful in Carolina.

I don't think that he's lying intentionally, I just think that he hasn't exactly understood what he thinks, so he polarizes his feelings to look better.

In terms of his faith, I find it curious how much he plays that faith card. It could just be that I doubt most anyone in the public eye who talks about their faith (particularly now that politicians seem to make that knowledge public at opportune times).

Carr's problem is that his actions and dialogue do not even come close to that of someone who should be playing the religion 'card.' First, Carr is a 'major' me person. Second, he blames everyone around him for everything that doesn't work. Third, he never goes out of his way to thank anyone for anything they've done for him, especially if they're not around. In Carolina, he's shown 'no class' at all about his time in Houston and some things he's said are unbelievable--didn't feel like playing the last couple of years, dreaded going to work on Sundays, etc.
We all have issues with different things in our lives, but we learn to do deal with them w/o 'tearing' down everyone around us. Carr is fortunate that he has a pedestal to stand on and people who buy his 'BS' no matter what he does...

What fan support or kind words did he recieve from this great fan base? Why would you expect him to say nice things about the Texans and their fan base when he was constantly ridiculed? That beer incident on his wife and kids didn't help matters anyway. All this is mute because he is not on your team anymore and you've got Matt Schaub. You don't need to keep bashing on David Carr any more and he doesn't need to say anthing about the Texans either.Ask yourselves this question, what berring does Carr's comments have on your team now? Nothing! It is all meaningless.Schaub has the whole NFL community behind him and they're singing praises on him more so than they are of Carr. I just saw the Texans mini camp on the NFL Network and they said some pretty nice things about your team and some not so nice things about Carr. Isn't this what you are looking for some redemption on getting rid of Carr?

Glad to hear that David is upbeat about new surroundings, new opportunity to learn and the change all around. I hope he does well and gets an opportunity to start at some point. Criticize him if you want, but the NFL would do well to have more of the character of David Carr and fewer of PacMan, Tank and Vick.

I agree.
As seen in many of my previous posts I am not a fan of Carr's game nor his self-centered personality, but he is a high character guy that may see his time in the spotlight again soon. His move to Carolina was good for both organizations.
I do not take anything he says to the media directly involving his discontent with the Texans as a slap. He is a product and for him to market himself to the fans in Carolina he has to push the light away from his own mistakes and shed it to the things that were around him at the time. Put yourself in his shoes, so to speak.
I honestly wish him and his family the best but its long past time to move on with our future with our new franchise quarterback.

...go read any psych book you want or management 'writing' about screwing up, and the first think a person does when they are wrong is admit/learn what they did that was wrong'correct it and move on.
A person that won't admit they're wrong (like a recovering alcholic) is never going to correct their mistakes, especially when they can blame everyone around them it was 'their' fault.
It's all about respect and character. We all make mistakes and we are all wrong sometimes, no one is perfect. If the Texans were to get a 'problem' player, I'd much rather them come in and admit, 'hey, everybody, I screwed up. I let my team mates down, my fans...but I'm here to tell you that I'm gonna step up..."
That is almost a direct quote from some players like Dillon before he went to the Pats and got a couple SB rings. Did people think less of him for admiting he was wrong? No, they respected him and he lived up to his promise.
By blaming everyone else, Carr is setting himself up for a tough road ahead, as he won't be able to use the 'blame' card again. It's put up or shut up time.
Honestly, IMO, a lot of what happens to Carr this year will be based on his mindset. He got in the door in Carolina by blaming everything bad on everyone else and convincing all who would listen that his coaches sucked and his team mates were even worse. He was totally blameless for the mess in Houston. I personally wouldn't want a player like that on my team, but Fox and his bunch bought into it--now, it's showtime. David better reach deep down inside and find the desire to succeed, and his fans better raise their expectations from him---screw everything else--Carr better understand the 'free' ride is over. Good luck.

I certainly don't worry about David Carr and all the free money he's getting.
He's gone and is no longer stinking up our team. Paying that sort of extortion to David Carr to get him out of Houston is OK with me. It's kind of like paying to have a boil or a wart lasered off of your rear...a little costly, but it gets rid of the daily irritation.
And I am sure that David needs the extra money to pay his Public Relations staff who hangs out here to remind all of us ignorant fans of how valuable he was to our team.
Nobody (NOBODY) wanted David Carr as a starter. Not a single team. Whether he was tainted goods or not, not a single team out of the other 31 teams wanted to risk David as their starter.
Keep chopping wood, caddy.

Interesting read. Thanks, I enjoyed it.
I agree he's in a better place for him. He CAN "have fun" now because he's no longer "the man". He's not the "face of the franchise", he's the back-up. Everyone knows the backup is always the most popular guy in town when your team is "rebuilding". So the pressure on him has been lifted.
And he's said any number of times, "I'm the backup. I'm not after Jake's job. I'm his biggest fan and I'm going to do everything I can to help him succeed." [that means, as long as Jake succeeds, I keep getting paid 2-3 million a year to hold the clipboard... what's not to like?]
