No way we can afford him. its like a pizza delivery driver walking into a porsche dealership. its a nce thought, but that price tag pretty much dictates that all you will be doing is thinking.

That's kind of a shocker. Looks like 1st round pick Reggie Nelson will get to start or at least lots of PT.
I guess they figured a 31 yr old safety recovering from a broken ankle was no longer worth what they were supposed to pay him over the next two years.
There likely was a financial consideration as well, since Darius had two seasons remaining on his contract and was due base salaries of $3.5 million in 2007 and $4 million in '08.
And he couldn't take part in their OTAs because that ankle hasn't healed yet.
If he fully recovers, he'll be a good addition to somebody's roster.
I doubt we can afford him. [:'(]

Darius was a SS and if healthy a definite upgrade. However he will command a nice price tag, Nelson would have teamed with Darius. Darius was a tackling machine so who ever replaces him will not be as great a tackler. so It only helps us that he is gone.

I know I know. He's an expensive beat up vet who we probably can't afford but c'mon guys...this dude is a gamer. How can we NOT be interested in this. Playing in the same division as the team that cut him........that's got good stuff written all over it. He's WAY better than anything we have in the secondary right now.
I'm no capologist but let's say we let go of someone with Travis Johnson's salary.....could we afford him then?

What if the front office back loaded the contract? Darius is still healing and re-habing from that leg injury. Perhaps he would be willing to take a contract with a lot of incentives? Just a thought... I wouldn't mind seeing him on our D!

Hard to say I am not a capologist but I don't know who we would get rid of on this team that can make our number cap friendly enough to sign him.
Now if we were a winning franchise already I would bet he would take a backloaded contract. But as a team that has never been over .500, I think he would want money upfront.

He's hurt too much. That's why he got cut.

Darius was twice named as a franchise player in free agency and that seemed to reflect his value to the Jaguars at the time, and he is a two-time Pro Bowl alternate. But he played in just 12 games the past two seasons, and the recent injury history likely contributed to the decision to release him. In 2005, Darius missed all but two games after an anterior cruciate injury. Then, in 2006, he fractured his right ankle in a late November game.

He's still rehabing from that November ankle injury. In fact, he couldn't participate in the Jags' OTAs because of it.
yeah, I know I posted this on the other Darius thread... but I don't know how to combine different threads on the same topic...

I say we sign him with a screwed up ankle,Hell he's better with one ankle than the rest of our safety's are with two good ones.
