I want to hear what all the I hate/fire Kubiak haters have to say now. Not only fire Kubiak but fire the defensive coordinator, or even FIRE THE OWNER if that can ever happen. Where you guys at right now?

I think that everyone ought to be fired. The players, the coaches, the coordiantors, the refreshment staff of Reliant Stadium, the score board opperators, the owners, the fans, the congressmen, the senators, the presidents, the U.N. representatives.
I hope that's enough to fill you up for now. Wait until we lose a game, all the people who only come onto the boards to complain will be out. Just be glad they aren't here right now.

Personally I have been waiting to see if any of them would come on & post something positive. As usual they have just come by to the read the threads & not post. Then when they do post, they want to know why no one takes them seriously, or better yet to state that they are a fan & have a right to bash the team.Personally I enjoy the boards a whole lot more when the talk is about football that is shared by the fans of the Texans. ;)

I still want Cowher as our assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. I only had disdain for Kubiak for rumors that he was the one going to go be a head coach at A&M. Then it turned out to be Sherman. So who knew!
Besides there are always going to be someone ticked off that someone wants somebody fired for doing something stupid and losing the game for us.

Those kind of people aren't real fans. There's nothing wrong with criticizing your team and holding them accountable... but people who just come out and make ridiculous blanket statements about firing this person and that person #1 - aren't real fans, and #2 - don't know anything about pro football.

I've never been one to actively call for anybody to be fired, but I have stated (and been adamant) about disliking our defensive coordinator for one reason: he wasn't aggressive enough. A lot of people disliked my wants to blitz and stop dropping 7 on every play (nobody in the topics I took part in agreed with me, that I saw). What happened the game after one such topic? We blitzed several times, and were very aggressive (to good results, I might add).
I did dislike Smith earlier in the year, but he's changed his philosophy midseason, it seems.

I hear you. I actually still think the D coordinator job needs to be reviewed in the offseason. The Texans' defense is on a hot streak right now, but looking at the season as a whole, the job should be under review IMO. Thing is, management will have to balance poor play and coaching against the overall youth and crazy number of injuries we've had in the secondary.
Unless the defense has a complete and utter meltdown against Indy and Jax, I think Smith has done enough to not be replaced, especially because one of the reasons they haven't always been as aggressive as we'd like is because of the injuries in the secondary... and WHATEVER they do, they need to lock up the two guys who have been working so closely with Mario... Frank Bush and Jethro Franklin.

See, the primary thing that I see going on that I think (hope might be a better word) attests to his skills as a defensive coordinator are that everybody that has come in due to injuries this year has stepped up in a big way, and I don't think that its all because of raw talent (however much I want to). The coaching staff has really gotten even the backups to a level that we just haven't been before. We've had a rough season, but our players are producing. Bennett, Demps, Kalu, and as of late, Greenwood have stepped up in a big way for the Texans this season. Kalu and Greenwood have been around for a while; their increased success and involvement with the defense this season is, I think, attributed primarily to Smith and the coaching staff.
If they prove me wrong somehow in the coming weeks, so be it. And maybe I'm relating correlation to causation, but I sure hope not.

Thank you. I searching for the words to say the exact same thing with out sounding like a hater to the fan police.

This is where I am too. I was one of those calling for Richard Smith to step up the defensive pressure with blitzing or be replaced.
I'm starting to realize that he was probably afraid to blitz given the low quality of DBs we had early on. I'm still not totally sold on Smith but his defensive assistants seem to be doing a heck of a coaching job. As you said, Bush & Franklin are getting results from the D-line and Hoke (sp?) is turning the sow's ear that was our secondary into a silk purse.
So unless we can get some widely acknowledged defensive "guru", Smith has bought himself at least a one-year stay of excommunication.

This to me is the difference in our defense as a whole. Aggressive playcalling, go in and hit them in the mouth. If we are building a punishing defense, then by all means let them punish. Seems pretty easy to me.

The thing that bothers me about what I'm see on the defense is the same thing that happend last year. The first 3/4 of the season we were a passive bend but don't break type of defense and the the last 1/4 of the season we became aggresive with good results. Not exactly sure why that happend both years (this year was probably an injury issue), but over all, I don't like the trend.

I thinkm the blitzing picked up when Fletcher got healthy and they could make sure Bennett could sustain coverage.

I think Richard Smith is fine and Kubiak has done a great job when you throw in the injuries, the division we play in and the youth on our team. Progress was made and the defense has played more aggresive because the front four has put pressure on the QB. The blitz has been effective and the offensive play calling has been excellent. Kubiak has done a nice job guys!!
