I count 80 players...and we would need 53 for active roster plus 9 for Practice Squad...I am not sure who would be elligible so heres what I come up with

QB- Matt Schaub, Sage Rosenfels
RB- Ahman Green, Ron Dayne, Chris Taylor
FB-Vonta Leach
TE- Owen Daniels, Joel Dreessen, Mark Breuner
WR- Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter, Andre Davis, Jacoby Jones, Jerome Mathis

Thats 54 players....Not Counting draft, FA, or trade....and thats not knowing who is under contract either....

Obviously not all of these players will be back...and not all in starting positions will remain there, but with this roster healthy, we are FAR better than what we are as we stand now...give opinions and options for uograding certain positions....

The offense needs to be addressed in the draft. I feel that defense has found its core players that we've drafted and they can be assisted in FA. I like David Anderson and I feel he has contributed alot this year. However, he doesn't keep me from taking a WR in the late rounds. I would like to see us use our top pick on a LT, Guard or RB and depending on us moving up to get in the second would determine what order we go with those positions.

THis is how I see it

Drop A.Green and pick up a speed back to help with the dayne train (?,Dayne,Walker,Taylor)
Drop A.Weaver and pick up another Mario Williams type(I wish)(?,Travis,Amobi,Mario)
Drop the LOLB all together and pick up another(?, Demeco, Morlon)
I think when Earl comes back he and Demps should be starting. If he is healthy.
Offensive line should be fine if McKinney, Weary, and Spencer come back healthy.

Just my opinion.

This team just needs some depth and some more playmakers..we at the verge where we can beat anybody..

I hate to say it but thank you captain obvious. lol;) Seriously though I think most of our needs will easily be met in the draft and with some off time. Considering our "needs" are only 'cause of injury so really we should be fine.

Drop A Green and pick up a speedy back with Dayne in the 1st round (been said, but very true)
Pick up a Big name LT or C, and pray that Spencer and Weary come back healthy.
Pick up a decent caliber CB2 in FA to compliment Bennett until DROB comes back.
Draft a fast DE to take Weaver's place eventually.
Let Spencer take over as RG until at full strength and speed.

FA
Big name LT or C

Rd2: (Traded for Sage): LOLB

Rd4: DE

I believe Kubiak can find a talented back-up QB to plug into our system anywhere. Trade Sage, and get a draft pick....even if it's only a 3rd. If we can get a started for our back-up, then I'm all for it.

QB: Schaub/FA QB
RB: 1st round pick/Dayne/Taylor
WR: AJ/Walter/AD/JJ
FB: Leach
TE: OD/Putzier
LT: Faneca/Spencer

C: McKinney/White
RG: Weary/Brisel SP?

DT: Amobi/Maddux
DT: TJ/?
DE: Weaver/ 4th round pick

OLB:Greenwood
MLB: Demeco
OLB: 2nd round pick

SS: Earl/Brown
FS: Demps/3rd rounder
CB1: Bennet/Drob
CB2: FA/Von Hutchins

sorry but im tired of seeing mckinney at center and if white still cant step up to take the position from him or flanagan...then he's not the answer either. You should start penciling in Eslinger at center and hope someone can step up to be a good backup at center behind him.

Why not keep your proven QB (Sage)rather than trading him off for a 3rd and taking a chance on someone else? Sage is everything you want in a back-up. Knows the system, commands the respect of his teamates, proven he can win. Hell, I'd rather just keep him.

Hell, I'd rather just keep him.I agree with what you say & personally this trade Sage nonsense is getting old.Kubes & the Texans are not going to trade any of there QB's away. You have Sage for at least two more years & this is a very good thing.I just can't understand peoples reasoning with wanting to trade out of one of the best predictaments that a team could be in.Folks we are solid at the QB slot & this staff knows that, so please let the Sage trade talk die. ;)

The only thing I may see happening is that the team may want to move Matt's contract either down or to another team IF Sage were to win the job. I only say that because teams generally don't want to pay their backup 10 times what the starter is making. But that's a team decision.

Your forgetting how great Schaub was playing when the season began and we had a relatively healthy team...even after we lost Johnson which was a HUGE blow to the team....we still competed with Schaub at the helm...so his contract is fine and there is no qb controversy here....so quit fooling yourself.

With a little bit of tweaking, and leaving room for picks/FA's
- Maybe Ahman will get cut?
- Andre Davis seems to have earned the KR job, leaving Mathis expendable
- Flanagan may get cut/not be back
- Weary a FA, may not be wanted back
- Not sure which is of the DB's will not be back, Faggins gets knocked, Fletcher didnt play as much as expected, and we dont know what weve got in Harrison or Mitchell...still think we need a true FS

as for the draft, id like to see RB, FS, LB, DT, DE taken at some point....

how about RB, OL, OL, FS, OL, LB, OL, WR

Do you catch my drift?

Dunta_23
12-26-2007, 09:35 AM
I dont see how much help OL drafted round 3-7 will bring in the near future...Spencer and Winston are both 3rd rounders(top picks of the round). Spencer won the job his first year but Winston did not, Spencer was then injured and Winston worked his way into the rotation. You probably wont find a G prospect better than Studdard in the late rounds, Then youve got Pitts in the other slot, with guys like McKinney, White, Eslinger at C...I mean yeah OL is needed...but unless you are using rounds 1 or 3 on them, I dont see the improvement...It would also be nice to know whats up with Ahman RB wise, I know hes not the future, but itd be nice if he could play a string of games...Darius Walker may have a future, but I dont see him being dominant

With our injury history I think letting Sage go could be a big mistake.
As far as what talent Rick Smith goes after, I think that will be a question that won't be answered till the last minute. With Dunta, Spencer, Taylor, McKinney and so many others futures uncertain due to injuries at this point it's just too early to really know where things are at. For instance, if Dunta is back at 100% then we are looking for corners for depth. If not, we need a top notch corner to replace him with the extra cap dollars that will cost.

On a very positive note... The front office has an eye for talent. Case in point: Mario Williams. I am sure there will be some pickups that make us go Huh???, but I expect many of them will turn into very pleasant surprises.

El Tejano
12-26-2007, 11:37 AM
I think when it comes to DB you draft a top notch one any how if that is the way you are going early. My reason being is because I think after Dunta and Fred, everyone is pretty darn good depth. Fletcher and Hutchins have shown to be pretty good depth but not starters. If you are going to draft because you are not sure about Dunta or even if Dunta is going to be great, you draft a top notch guy.

I still think we need to go RB in first round because all the good ones will be gone by the 3rd. I think there will still be real good OL in the 3rd round.

With the history of Dominick and mysterious knee injuries I suspect Ahman is really on the bubble.
