This has been a fantastic off season so far. I think it is amazing that we got him to add to our coaching talent. What else is there to come??????? Go Texans!!!!

Can we fire Smith and get a new DC? Doubt it, so we can live I guess.
Now, if we can just be smart in FA and get a player or 2...then trade in the draft and get a 2nd back and still have our other picks.

The addition of Ray Rhodes is a gigantic step foward for the Texans franchise. He is going to add so much more dimension to the team than they had last year.....this entire staff Kubiak is putting together is going to make an incredible impact. Like everyone else...I CAN'T WAIT TIL THIS COMING SEASON!!

Do you guy's think that Rhodes can do what he did in Seattle here in Houston?

I think Rhodes is a great teacher. I think he can make players better than the were before he coaches them so yes, I think he can do here what he did in Seattle and San Fransisco. The Texans D backfield is going to show much improvement.
ok, i'm just as excited about the hire as anyone and I think he will improve our defense a lot.
but the point of this message board is discussion...and i want to ask.
how much can an assistant defensive backs coach do to improve the defense? seriously. he's an ASSISTANT position coach... thoughts? Two words...........Knowledge and experince, both are very priceless.;)

Rhodes doesn't do DC or HC interviews due to a health issue but he is a great db coach and schemes really well. It could also be setting the table for making a run at Trufant. Either way its a great move for our secondary. Those guys are gonna hit and know their ___ (hint: rhymes with hit) :D

Yeah the title is just that. He may be on the payroll as an "Assistant" but Ray Rhodes will have his hands all over this defense. Don't be mistaken by thinking he is only going to be involved in training DBs. That will be his main priority but Rhodes was a HC......you don't bring a guy like that on board unless you plan to use his overall knowledge and experience.

While the offense improved by leaps and bounds last season, I think one of the teams best strengths (at least in certain games) was our defense. You have a bunch of young and talented guys how in certain games made huge plays. They got a little experience with some of the older FA on the lineup but a coach like Rhodes, it will be insane (or the wrath of God) for the Texans not to have one of the better defensive teams next year (provided we improve the secondary, which is mandatory).
All the experience and talent will definitely make the Texans team a team to fear in the NFL. Now all the remains is questioning is it possible for the AFC South to monopolize the playoffs for a number of years, considering the raw talent on all four teams.

With D. Robinson's injury, the secondary has become the weakest area of the team. He will improve the coaching in this area and could help lure Trufant or another cb from Seattle. That is why I like hiring coaches from other teams!

And if you look at the potential that Freddy B. showed, then combine that with Rhodes coaching and Freddy B. could be a very corner in this league.

It will help our secondary because I believe hoke's scheme was very intensive and I think Rhodes will simplify our coverage schemes. Or atleast make them understandable. I wonder if Rhodes can get production out of Boulware.

Bingo...to me this is ALSO a message to Smith. Fix the D or your gone. Rhodes wouldn't be the DC, but he would be all over the D. So, if Smith got canned for bad play calling. They could promote ALMOST any D asst. and Rhodes would mentor them. It is a win win situation.

Yes I think the Defense was the missing link last season. I really believe will be the Team to beat in the AFC South in 2008!
