ORT Winston garnering respect
A player who has quietly garnered respect from opponents, the way we hear it, is Texans ORT Eric Winston. The 6-7, 310-pounder started all 16 games this season, allowing only 3½ sacks, per STATS Inc. The Houston offensive line isn’t without its share of issues; the team’s interior line play was not a strength last season, and the Texans’ long-term plans at left tackle were altered when promising Charles Spencer suffered a season-ending knee injury early in the ’06 season. So Winston’s development is key for the Texans. One area that Winston needs to shore up: moving too early. He committed seven false-start penalties in 2007.

i like him. i really hope they dont try to move him to LT or anything. he is succesful at RT and dont mess with a good thing. Good luck to him and the rest of the linemen this next season. I think the argument could be made that O-line (and rest of the team for that matter) has had enough injuries to cover them for the next five years or so.

I watched him since he started at Miami and I know he would be a stud. My ex went to the U so I had to a chance to go to a couple of games. Anyways he has great potential and is catching on quick. I think he will have a great career at LT. Dont switch him.
Winston is doing just fine where he is at and that is where he should stay.I hope Gibbs doesn't move him but with Gibbs anything is possible.I tend to believe Gibbs will leave him because that will be one less position he has to shore up.By the way hats off to the caveman on a very good season.

Should we take Winston's obvious quality play at RT as a sign that he could actually make the jump to LT? I don't think it's a hot idea when the players aren't that good, but I think Winston could beat out Salaam for the starting LT spot.

I knew there was some reason I made him my adoptee a year ago.

If LT was so easy that a caveman could do it, Winston would have already been moved to the position.
Hopefully next season we will have Spencer, Salaam and possibly a new draft pick ready for the position so hopefully we won't have to resort to moving Winston out of his position.

Go Caveman.
Remember , he played LT at the U. So it is his natural position.
When he came to the Texans, Sherman automatically slotted him at right tackle, and Spencer at LT. Also, remember he was the swing tackle last year, so he already knows the position.
Do ya'll know he also played several series at LG when Pitts went down against Denver?
In 2006, He took over at RT when Weigart went down, and never looked back.

I think he didn't have the leg strength where it needed to be his rookie year, so they slotted him on the RT position. However last season he hit the weights hard, and has really positioned himself as a legit tackle.
He blew his knee against Georgia Tech his Junior year, I think in the 4th game of the season. After surgery, he came back and played his senior year. Wasn't 100%, but still played. Still won the award as the best offensive lineman, even over D'Brickshaw. This pulled his stock down in the draft, the uncertainty over the knee.
Played TE his fresh year at the U. Then was behind Kellen Winslow Jr, and decided to switch to left tackle, and started his soph-senior year, and had never played the position before !!!

Your correct Westtexastexan. He won the Jacobs award as the best offensive lineman in the ACC. This is an award voted on by the defensive coordinators of each team. They would know best who is the toughest offensive lineman to play against. And yes it was for his play at left tackle. One other thing to note is that his right tackle at Miami was none other than Rasheed Butler who ended up our swing tackle at the end of the season.
If and I repeat if Spencer can't make it back as a tackle this pair might be an arrangement to consider. The Texans need to evaluate all their options and Gibbs may be just the man to help them do that.
