I know he plays middle linebacker but he's smart and has great intangibles to make the transition to outside linebacker. He had a knee injury this season (not sure how bad) and now the Jets have him on the trading block looking for a third rounder at least. I would be thrilled if Houston picked him up...he's still young and has a lot of good football still in him. (He's also been a Pro Bowler). He's a team leader and I once read that he was fluent in like 5 different languages, just thought it was interesting.

I'd entertain a deal for Vilma before I'd consider signing Zach Thomas any day.

Thomas is in Dallas now...Vilma would be an interesting add. But, at what LB spot and at what price?

A third rounder?Hmmm...interesting.I don't know about this move.We have so many needs right now that we need to address in the draft. He would be a definite upgrade.

yeah and we need an outside linebacker...who knows they might have picked one up in round 3 but wouldn't you want an experienced guy who has been great in the 4-3? Ever since the jets moved to a 3-4 Vilma's stats went down...heck put DeMeco at outside and keep Vilma inside...that could be to Pro Bowlers in our linebacker corps!

Bring vilma to houston... Im willing to give a 3rd and Weaver for him... If you say we have to many needs to trade away a pick, think about it this way, we are picking an outside linebacker for a third

Your getting a damaged LB for a third.

Not only a damaged LB but a LB that has not been product over the last few years.

Randy Moss was not even worth a third.

I'll pass.

Someone get TEXASRED some smelling salts because he's definitely fallen and bumbed his head....ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? First of all Vilma is a beast who's play has suffered due to the system he has had to adapt to and an injury setback. He hasn't sucked but hasn't played as well as he did in his NORMAL position. He would be back in his comfort zone in the 4-3 defense with us and could be a steal for a 3rd rounder.

And as far as Randy Moss not being worth a 3rd....Do you watch football ever? Just curious.

His injury isn't just alittle injury. Some people think it will affect him his whole career.

That last question should be directed at you. Randy Moss was traded for a fourth round pick. Understand the statement next time you decide to make a snappy comment. It just makes you look silly.

Vilma had one good year in 05' with 173 tackles and a half sack. Other than that he has put up Morlon Greenwood type production. Not to mention he does nothing to bolster our pass rush considering for his career he has 2.5 sacks and hasn't got a sack since 2005.

Vilma shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Ryans, much less thinking of moving Ryans over for Vilma. We are looking for upgrades.

Again, I'll pass.

Who the heck are you talking to? It appears to me that we have another poster with a reading comprehension problem. Take my advise, unless you know what you are commenting on dont post.

And personally, I think Vilma is over rated.

TEXANRED,

Dude seriously, we understand that you think a he is overrated but some think he still has a lot of good football left in him. It's rumored that his knee is serious but nobody knows how his body is going to heal...look at Willis McGahee. I'm just saying you need to calm down on peoples opinions and just chill.

Well, if yall are done bickering like a bunch of school girls, I think if we gave a third for anybody, its got to be Shaun Rogers. You can still take a left takle or DB in the first and a speed end in the 4th. And with Amobi, Mario, and Rogers you can plug in a Cochran or a free agent like Travis Laboy or Atwan Odom of the Titans that shouldn't come at a huge price. Although this situation does not solve our secondary problems it gives you one of the best D lines in the league to stop the run and rush the pass wich will alleviate the pressure on the DB's. Keep Boulware and Demps back there for the quick slants and inside routes and pray Drob comes back in a timely manner. Or move Boulware to LB and give Harrison a shot at Saftey.

I doubt Boulware will move back to OLB...I also doubt we give up a third rounder for Shaun Rogers who was injured and always has had weight issues.

Don't think I am trying to down you for your opinion..my thoughts on the matter are that Vilma is a good backer who has suffered from injury and transition, no he is not the end all be all and there is speculation that Meco could move to the outside providing a spot for Vilma on the inside. Meco would be a great player if we put him anywhere and that move could solidify our linebacking corps.

As for Randy Moss I know what he was traded to New England for but you can't tell me that his VALUE is less than a third rounder at this point. I bet a team (or teams) would offer a first or even more for his services after the performance he had this past season.

Correct about Moss that is for sure. Vilma is a guy who was injured and struggled to fit in a 3-4. If you watched him since the 3-4 change, he plays well...yet seems unsure. In a 4-3 he could agian be a great LB. Meco and Vilma would be an interesting situation.

Plus, I still see a trade in rd 1 that will give us a late 1st and a 2nd. So, if we get Vilma(if the FO wants to go after him) for a 3rd. It really is better than grabbing an unknown in the draft, and we still have a 1, 2, 4, 5,6 and 7th left to fill holes. San Fran and dallas are 2 teams i see we can deal with in the trade area for the draft.

Saints | Team close to acquiring Vilma?
Thu, 28 Feb 2008 20:08:32 -0800

Tom Rock, of Newsday, reports the New Orleans Saints are close to acquiring New York Jets LB Jonathan Vilma, according to two sources. The Jets will receive a conditional draft pick, likely in the 2009 NFL Draft, based on Vilma's production, according to a league source.

For What it's worth... Vilma would really bring a much needed interior presence to the Saints defense and could instantly become the face of it. If the Saints get Vilma and draft or sign a good CB their defense could get a whole lot better.

Word is they want to try and sign Samuels too. That would be too huge acquisitions for the Saints if they pull it off.

If they pull it off, I suspect that their cap situation will be pretty bleak for a few years because of a certain RB & QB that they signed a couple of years ago and the dollars that these two will command.

Vilma is going to the Saints for a 2009 4th round pick that could be elevated to a 3rd round pick depending on playing time...

Really not that much to give up for a player of Vilma's quality. Plus we wouldn't have even been loosing a draft pick in this years draft, but in 2009.

Congrats to the saints. I am sure Vilma will really help the coverage on those deep balls.

Good signing but kind of a gravy sign.

Look on the brightside Its a change in conference.
