Didn't see this posted yet so I thought I would throw it out here. This is an interview Kubes did at the combine. There may be some who have not read this yet. (http://www.houstontexans.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=4193)

Texans head coach Gary Kubiak took the podium at the NFL combine media center Friday to discuss the future of the team and how he evaluates draft prospects.

(on if the promotion of Kyle Shanahanhttp://assets.houstontexans.com/images/relatedicon.gif (http://www.houstontexans.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=4193#) to offensive coordinator will change the team’s offensive system) “I don't think our system will change very much. Of course, making the Kyle the coordinator, (he is) very young. We brought Alex (Gibbs) in, of course, to join the offensive side of the ball. I think our scheme is going to stay pretty much the same. If anything, we may get a little simpler to be honest with you, settle down. We have to get our running game better, become a better football team. I don't see a lot of changes. Maybe a few subtle changes.

(on of it is difficult to gauge improvement because the AFC South is so strong) “I just worry about us. Gauging off those guys would be very difficult. I have to take that into account on a daily basis. I think we're making progress. We've got a lot of good young players and we obviously have a long way to go, but I like the direction we're headed. If we can keep having good drafts, good free agencies, and not make many mistakes, I think it gives us a chance.”

Kubes got hair cut. Little shorter. Little spikier. Lookin cool. Lookin slick. I like it, he stands out compared to all of the other coaches in the league. At the press conference, he had his hair like that and i think he was wearing a leather jacket, lol.

What do you expect, Kubes is a hip cat.

(on if T Charles Spencer will be healthy next season) “I'll put it this way, Charles is ready to go back to work. He's doing well. When we start the offseason program, he'll be right in there with the football team. When we get to OTA’s, he will be cut loose to go play. I think time will tell when he goes out there, performs as a player, he's in drills, doing football stuff again as compared to doing just rehab. We'll see how it responds. I think the jury is still out, but that he's getting close.”

(on if Spencer will stay at left tackle) “I sure hope so. We'll see how he responds.”

He makes it sound like there is still hope for the LT position, although I get them wanting a younger player just like for the RB position.

As much as I want to give Kubiak a cool nickname, that one is already taken...

The real "Coach K" (http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2006/basketball/ncaa/specials/preview/2006/11/08/coach.k.fire/t1_krzyzewski_getty.jpg)

I've commented about getting a permanent link to the Texans news archive. No luck.

There's a ton of newsy things on that page and I hit it regularly. The good thing is that you can read comments of coaches, players, and management first hand without the media filter. These transcriptions are the basis for most of the stuff you read in the chronic and in the wire releases. You can read the entire transcript and draw your own conclusion without the spin.

I really like this quote by Kubiak. It makes me feel really good about him being the Texans coach. His optimism is encouraging and makes me believe we are going to see something special on the field this coming season.

Maybe Kubiak should start rocking the leather jacket on the sideline. That might heighten the rivalry between he and Jack Del Rio and the Jags/Texans in general. He looks cooler in it than JDR anyway.
