This post-combine mock draft (http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2008.php) has us taking him with our first rounder. He's small (5'10"), but a big-hitter in Dunta's mold. He really hasn't been held in great regard until his combine (most mocks had him in the 3rd round until now). If we decide to go cornerback, would he really be the best choice over Rodgers-Cromartie, Antoine Cason, and Aqib Talib? (Assume McKelvin and Mike Jenkins are gone at 18).

Yeah...I don't really dig that draft much.
I think we'd be better with Talib in the first round (if we went by the same draft position), better with Kevin Smith in the third, and better with Marcus Griffin in the fourth...assuming the rest of the draft went like they said.
Personally, I'd take Stewart in the first, and Godfrey in the fourth with the best available ZBS-type Tackle or top OLB in the third.

I guess I'm weird because I still like Flowers despite his 40 time. He has elite skills, is physical, and should be an overall playmaker in the secondary. At worst, he could learn a new position and be an amazing FS.
I really doubt Detroit takes Cason over Talib in that situation.

If the texans are looking at Cornerback then they better pray that mekelvin,Dominque or Mike jenkins are availiable b/c after that is the drop off in talent. Both Browner and talib are good but not worth the 18th pick.

brandon flowers is one of my top corners this year...but still we could trade down in the first round and pick him up after he ran a 4.5 something 40...he's a solid corner...worth a 1st round pick but you have to always try and get the most out of your picks...why would we simply pick him at 18 when we could trade down pick up a few more picks and still get him?

This might have made sense pre-combine. After Flowers ran a 4.58 not so much.

Flowers is a late 1st round as of right now, however, he can improve his draft status w/ a good 40 time at his school during pro day. That's why its so important to get that invite to Indy, so if you don't perform good on any part of your drills you have a 2nd chance to make the best out of a bad drill. And in Flowers case it was his 40 time. I believe some of the best corners in the draft are Mckelvin, Jenkins, Talib, Flowers (if his 40 time is better during his pro day) and Rodgers-Cromartie. Exactly in that order.

that's one reason i hate 40 times...i pay almost zero attention to them...if you watch the game tapes he is probably one of the top 3 corners in the draft this year...plus he's not playing football without pads
i've never understood why they have players run 40's without pads...it's not how fast they are without pads it's how fast they are with pads that counts

I couldn't agree more. Some guys just play faster on the feild w/ pads on then in shorts.

He is a good hitter... but we need coverage. But yes, i would draft him over Aqib Talib because i saw some tape of him and he seems to suck in zone cause i have never seen him play press coverage

As far as CBs go...
Winners: McKelvin, Rodgers-Cromartie, Flowers (though he lacks long speed)
Average: Cason, Jenkins
Over-hyped: Talib
With the Texans seemingly focusing on FA for a RB I'll be very sad if we take a CB other than DRC or McKelvin. Flowers I think I can live with though.
If all three of them are gone, look to see if Clady or Williams are left at OT.
Flowers at 18 would be a terrible pick when he could be had at the 18th pick in the 2nd round.
