"Rodgers-Cromartie, on the other hand, solidified his status with a MVP-caliber performance at the Senior Bowl. His stellar play during the game (four tackles, one interception and a break-up) capped an impressive week of practices against the best players in the country. "His play during Senior Bowl week proved to everyone that he was capable of excelling at the next level," said a scout for an AFC South team."

"It doesn't matter the level of competition, you have to grade the player for his skills and Rodgers-Cromartie's skills rank up there with the top players at big programs," a Jaguars scout said.

It seems unlikely that the writer would refer to the same source for two different comments on the same player. That means there's only three teams that first comment might have come from.

Personally, I think this is great news, as in my view, Rodgers-Cromartie is the best of a top-heavy group of corners. Skills, size, speed and hands. With several other corners vying for the top spots, it's conceivable for this guy to be available at #18 if other teams like McKelvin, Talib or Jenkins better.

He could be a possibility, but one thing that I do believe you have to take into account IS the level of competition that a player played against. You have to take everything in consideration when considering any player in the 1st round or even the 1st day. Those type of players are the ones that are suppose to step in immediately and start or contribute to your organization. Just take a look at Jones for proof of that.

The reason I said look at Jones even though he wasn't a 1st rounder was, because he was a 1st day pick.

I've never been a big fan of the level of competition stuff - at least not in regards to small school players good enough to go before 20 in the draft. They already had to overcome visibility issues to attract attention, so you never hear about a small school player who's just pretty good - they're always amazing talents.

When they get in the NFL, it's the small school guys that end up surprising folks.

But if the level of competition argument gets the other CBs taken before #18 and lets McKelvin or DRC end up at our slot then I'm all for it. :)

What about Jerry Rice? Cromartie? His cousin barely played at Florida state but was recognized as a great talent. I like Rogers-Cromartie. I wouldn't be angry at all with him.
