The team has also agreed to terms with former Texans linebacker Charlie Anderson, former Giants linebacker Reggie Torbor. Wide receiver Ernest Wilford (Jaguars), guard Justin Smiley (49ers) and tight end Sean Ryan (Giants) all previously signed.

Crap. That's a significant loss.
Can Zach Diles slide over, or is he strictly a middle LB? I assume he can make the move.

More because he is more suited to play in the 3-4, the original reason why he was drafted in the first place.

Hell I will play for free if they don't mind a 39 year old, who has fire in his belly but may have lost a step.
I got Ronnie Dayne as my trainer to work out the kinks on my abs ;).
HAMBURGERS FOR EVERYONE!
Below pic is of NB on the trail to rehabbing a surgically repaired shoulder.

Thats part of the plan I guess, they reported that Diles will get a chance to start on the strong side. I really don't think he has the size, but we'll see what happens.

This is bad news.
I hope we give Marciano some more talented players to work with because even a coach of his calibur can't produce something from nothing. Anderson was one of our best special teams guys over the past few years, and I attribute a great deal of the success of those units to players like him.
Hope his stay in Miami is well.

It's not his 40 that's the problem. It's his 39.

If he could play he wouldn't be posting on a message board. ;)
That said, based on the pic - get your butt out there! I'd like to see you collide full speed with VY.

Let's be honest about Anderson, here - He's a good LB, but he's had several chances to grab a starting job by the throat and he couldn't - not even against Danny Clark, who's also a good player, but clearly in the twilight of his career. Anderson saw a chance to play for a team that he might have a better chance to start for, and he took it. I don't blame him. Bring on Diles.

I don't see Diles being the SLB. His height will probably hurt him there because the tight end lines up on that side. I'd like to see him get a shot at the WILL postition though.

There is nothing wrong with a small guy playing SLB as long as you don't play 4-3 "over" too much. That puts him in almost a DE sort of role, and he may not be suited for that. Besides, it's not like Diles is 220 lbs or anything. His weight is fine; his height is the only thing in question.

Yeah, I wish Anderson the best of luck, unless he is going against Texans, then I hope his team loses by 24.
I had fun yelling at the tv, "Mr. Anderson" in an agent Smith voice when he made a few tackles at the end of the season.

Thanks Vit. Diet is the key...my abs are murdering me a little harder to do at 39 now. I have to really watch what I eat, but I always had a hard time popping. Oh to be 29 again.

i dont like the dolphins personally, but i highly doubt they'll be 1-15 next year... with the draft coming in several weeks and now the gang of signings they've made so far, it seems like they might be up to something...

it's a real shame...i didn't think he was going to go anywhere because i seriously doubt we try to re-sign danny clark if he stayed...competition was probably going to be between him, diles, and whichever new guy the bring in

Anderson will be missed on special teams, but not at LB. Other than Ryans, linebackers have been a big weakness for the Texans. Greenwood is adequate, but is not a playmaker. Sure he had a few tackles last year, but a big part of that was the fact that Ryans was playing injured so Greenwood had no competition for making any tackles. It was either going to be Greenwood or a safety making the play.
The strong side linebacker has been a hole in this defense the two years we've run a 4-3, and overall linebacking play has been lacking pretty much the entire history of the Texans, except for DeMeco Ryans and the first year or two of Jamie Sharper. The injuries to Ahman Green, Charles Spencer, and Dunta Robinson are unfortunate for many reasons, one of which is that they make RB, LT, and CB bigger priorities this year when a first day pick at LB is badly needed.
Since the Shawn Barber experiment failed, I expect the Texans to sign someone else as a stop-gap measure until a long-term solution can be found. Hopefully Diles can develop into that player, but I doubt if he will be starting this year. He probably needs to see spot duty as a backup this year before being asked to start. He didn't see much action on defense last year, spending most of his time on special teams.

man i hate to see anderson go. he had some pass rushing ability that coulda really helped our team this upcoming year. since clark is a free agent and we are not yet sure if we can resign him it seems that Zac Diles is the man to take over the SLB psoition. that brings us to my question...why does everyone think that the 6-0 240 pont diles is undersized???
