Looks like the Falcons got a heck of a runningback.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3273710

The best available running back in the free-agent market has a new home.

Michael Turner, who has been the Chargers' insurance policy for LaDainian Tomlinson, agreed to a six-year, $34.5 million contract with the Falcons, with $15 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN.com's Michael Smith.

Turner gained 316 yards on 71 carries with one touchdown last season.

I think it's a strange move when you've got a young, able player in Jerious Norwood. But hey, whatever.

i completely agree! WTF are the texans thinking right now in terms of our RB? this guy isn't "god", but who the hell said he was...? he's the best Rb on the market and better than 98% of the prospects in the draft!

These teams grabbing FA RBs just means they aint drafting any. We are merely moving up in the draft to grab a great RB! Scratch Atlanta off the I am drafting a RB list. We are looking Good....

I like the way you think.

Ya, but Kubiak doesnt draft RB's in the first round any never will, remember?

I'm glad we weren't the ones who spent that much on him. I guess that means you can scratch McFadden to Atlanta.

Unless Kubes has a change of heart...we won't take a RB in the 1st. He has said he won't do it.

So, Turner WOULD of been a better idea...but we shall see i guess.

guys, we're not taking a RB in the 1st round of the draft. if you wanna make a little wager, just let me know and cash or check can be sent over here to AZ. look, our RBs combined for #'s that were close to some of the starters in the league, but take a look at our pass D... it was poor. it proves to be a larger hole in our team than the running game. we're not taking mendenhall or stewart

Hopefully we can score a solid running back this off-season. Even though I think Walker had a pretty strong showing at the end of the season.

How much you got? I take PayPal.

It may not be in the first round but the Texans will draft a RB.

I agree with that comment our pass defense was awful. We need a saftey or good corner another pass rusher couldnt hurt.

Haha I am in the military so not much money here! Hell, I have been a die hard Texans fan since Houston got a team back but, sadly I have either been deployed or overseas during the season. Now I am currently stationed in Flordia.

Really dumb comment. I'll take that action all day baby! Both kubiak and smith said they will look to the draft to add a young RB.

I really don't think this is a good move for Turner. Its smells alot like the mistake lamont jordan made.

It's a great move by Turner - he and his family are set for life. Whether it's a good move by Atlanta remains to be seen.

Do you think the move by Lamont was a good move? You can't use the set for life argument because even the players making a million are set for life.

Turner isnt god, in my opinion he isnt any better then what we can get through the draft. Remember he was playing behind one of the leagues top OL which is what makes Tomlinson the player he is.

It would have been nice to sign him and then beef up our OL in the draft though. We've only got 2 picks through round 3 and we can't address all our needs with 2 picks.

That's why there are 7 rounds in the draft.

completely agree, jut one more step towards a Mendenhall or a Stewart. Isn't going to matter anyway, Atlanta STILL doesn't have a decent QB....

I second that, wonder what will McFadden go now.

I realize that....It's difficult to pick-up a starter after the third. Not impossible, but unlikely.
And if you do pickup a starter in the 6th round, you probably weren't very strong there to begin with.

I am really surprised by this move. First, their new GM came from NE. This is not a typical move you would see NE make. Second, they got him to go with OC Mularkey's power running game. The Falcons have one of the worst OL in the league. Most of their OL are left over from the ZBS used during the Mora years. For $34 million one would think they would start building from the inside out. By the time they get a line Turner will be beat up and old. I guess they had to do something to sell some tickets.

Says who?? If I was a gambling man I'd take that bet. Jeez the speculation on this board gets way out of control sometimes.
