That contract means absolutely nothing. They could have signed him for 200 million and it still would be nothing. It looks bigger than it really is. He is guaranteed 36 million, in which he gets 25 up front for a signing bonus, the rest are probably incentives and such. That is the number you should look at and paying 36 million for a QB that won you a Super Bowl in his 2nd year and put up the numbers he did last year, I'd say that was a pretty good price.

Couldn't of said it better myself Hydro. That money will cause a cap hit in afew years as big as the Grand Canyon. And Ben will have to redo the deal BIG TIME or they will be the laughing stock of the NFL for years. Why...because if he won't redo it, how will they sign anyone.

At the risk of getting too philosophical, does it really matter whether or not he "deserves" it? I mean, yes, you should determine whether or not he should be paid that much because of the salary cap and all. Should you question whether he, as an football player should be paid that much? To that question, I think the answer is no.

If you have all you need (or it is at least within reach) then who cares if someone else has a ton of wealth? Wealth corrupts most people that get it anyway. Did anyone see that A&E special where they went and found everyone who ever won big in the lottery. Over 95% of them ended up broke and many of those with heavy drug addictions. In the end, they were worse off than before they won the lottery. I know not everyone believes the Bible, but it is right in this regard:

"For the love of money is the root of all evil; and while some have coveted after it, they have... pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (1 Tim 6:10)

It's not that Walker doesn't deserve the money, necessarily - it's that the whole world knows that he's going to need microfracture surgery. That in itself is a long rehab - and several athletes have never recovered from it. For an organization to sink what was it - 16 million guaranteed into that guy is absolute insanity. The years and the non-guaranteed money of course doesn't mean as much as it sounds since NFL contracts aren't worth the paper they're written on - but that's a HUGE pile of guaranteed money for a guy who could literally not have a career after his next, and inevitable, surgery.
