We are playing the Chiefs at home for the first game of the season.. Observers dismiss this game as a playoff team vs one of the "lower-class" teams. Well, a closer look at this matchup makes it a lot closer than one might think....

To start it off, Will Shields just retired and Casey Wiegmann is contemplating doing the same. Oh, and their tackle is suspended for this game and "I-65" is now a Texan. This will give us a great opportunity to break in our new improved D-line and see AOK and MW reek havoc on the Chiefs offense. Besides that, I am also hearing that Larry Johnson could hold out for a new contract. If thats true, who else do they have at RB?[:^)]

Well on the defensive side of the ball, their best player, Jared Allen is suspended for this game. This is huge for us and will take a lot of pressure off our o-line for their first game together protecting Schaub. Not having Jared Allen on the Chiefs D-line will more than likely give Schaub the extra fraction of a second necessary to make the right read and deliver the ball. Oh and we no longer have to worry about Dante Hall since he was traded to the Rams. This will definitely help us win the battle of field position.[B]

This is the perfect first game for us this season. We won't be at our best because we'll still be getting used to all the new faces but the Chiefs are in such a turnover that even though we won't be at our best, we should still be able to beat them barring any unforeseen injuries during preseason, etc. And when we beat the Chiefs the media,(humphhh ESPN), will have to take notice of the fact that the Texans just beat a playoff team from the year before and aren't the laughing stock of the league anymore![<:o)]

Right on. This game will take everyone by surprise, that is everyone except the Texans organization, all true Texans fans, and Michael Smith.

The Texans aren't going to knock off the Chiefs on opening weekend. The Texans are going to BEAT the Chiefs on opening weekend. The Chiefs are a team on the decline, in my opinion, and the Texans are flat out the better team heading into the season. Herm Edwards is a crappy coach that's too stringent on solid defense. Gary Kubiak is an excellent coach with an even keel approach to the game of football. Yes, the Texans will win this game...but to say that it'd be considered an upset, even by the national media...??? Gimme a break!
Give you a break, what?! Look man from what ESPN reporters say about us raging on us, yes it WOULD be an upset to them when we beat the Chiefs. The Chiefs have lost a lot of power this off-season. Considering it is a home game and factoring in our own acquisitions so far, it isn't too terrible of a thing to start talking about winning our opening game.

I would rather see us win this game with the Chiefs at full strength. It would shut the nay sayers up and open some eyes. There would be no excuses as to why the Chiefs lost. If we do win this game, trust me it will be because he retired, he was suspended, he was traded, and we did not have this guy because of a holdout. We need to start earning some respect and we will not get it beating teams which are not all that great. JMO!!

I agree we will win the home opener, which will get everyone's hopes up. Then we will go 1-6 for the remainder of the first half of the season. The schedule is too tough.

come on our schedule is really not that tought at all.....im not syaing we go 16-0 or antyhing but give me a break on the tought thing.....its mediocre....we will prolly win our first three games.....chiefs, atl, and carolina.......plus i can see us goin 4-2 in our division.....already that puts us at 7-2.....so how is this tough????

Hey, wake up, we're still mediocre too. As for the schedule, it all depends on how you analyze it. I don't believe that the Texans will beat the Panthers in Carolina at their home opener or win at Atlanta against Schaub's former team. As for the division, while I think we were 3-3 last year, Carr owned the Jags but he's now gone so I expect the Jags to win one against us. I also don't see us beating Peyton or Vince. The schedule looks pretty tough to most people. The over/under is 6 1/2 games which I think is about right.

I'm sorry but your dillusional Amazingadre, both Atlanta and Carolina will be tough teams next year and I don't see us beating the panthers at all. Remember they were picked to go to the superbowl last year and they just had an amazing draft.

Carolina is always picked to go to the Superbowl, and they haven't yet; two of the three times that has happened, they haven't even made the playoffs. Yes they had injuries last year, but I see them as being overrated underachievers.
Falcons are the same way too. Little known fact: Atlanta has never had back-to-back winning seasons (at least that's what I once heard). I know they had a losing record last year, but I don't think they'll be all that much better this season.
And we are not getting swept by the Titans. Vince can't beat us with just his legs, and he lost almost all of his offensive help.

They went as recently as 2004. And the rest of your post is about as well thought-out.

Nordic,
Say man if you call this schedule tuff I would love to see what you think is an easy schedule. DUDE we are playing the NFC South, Vick may be suspended, carolina is no major threat these without a running game, lol TAMPAY BAY Bucs that's at least 3 games right there in the win column potentially. Not to mention we will either sweep or split with the Jags and Titans. The Raiders? Have you actually read over the schedule. This year of all years is the best time for the Texans to make a huge splash. As far as the chiefs I can't call that game just yet I mean the guys may be declining but they have chemistry and don't forget although the Colts won that defense held the Colts in check. I think the have a shot at winning but no guarantees and you know HERM Edwards "We come to play the game". I really cant believe you called this schedule tough. When I seen this year's schedule, I went and purchased a new barbecue because I know for a fact I will have plenty happy Sundays if I am not at the game

Just to think yall call me the deranged poster. LOL we have people on here that are calling Carolina and Atlanta tough and another comment about us having a tough schedule. I may be negative towards certain players on this team but I am not that crazy. I do not see any threat whatsoever in carolina nor atlanta. I mean can someone please tell me outside of Smith and Peppers what's Carolina. As stated before, it's a strong possibility that Vick will be suspended or his inconsistent play will pratically force Harrington into the starting spot. Texans is the only team in the AFC South is the only team that made major upgrades of course none of this means anything until you see guys play but I like our chances this year to make a splash.

Carolina is a good team. Don't let last years record cloud your judgement. You say they only have peppers and smith, well their two of the best players in the nfl at their position. Their offensive line is better then ours. Williams is a dynamic running back that can break it at any point. I think it will be a good game but I don't think we will win. We have a much better shot at beating the Falcons then the Panthers.

I know Carolina went to the SB, I was talking about since then; they weren't picked to go to the SB the year that they did go, were they? Wasn't that Delhomme's surprise season and everything?
It's every year after their SB run that they're the favorite, and usually disappoint.

Being transplanted in Panther Country the past 10 years, I've followed them closely, and in my opinion there isn't just one thing that put the Panthers in amongst the annual talk of contenders, but the biggest thing that put them on the map, is their defensive front 4. They have one of the best in the league.. Peppers is the obvious standout, but him, Buckner, Jenkins and Rucker are young and dominant. When Carolina shored up that front 4, they were a changed team.
Why do I care to share? Because I see a similarity with my favorite team developing here. While after 5 seasons of drinking the Battle Red Koolaid, I have become less of an optimist and more of a realist. I don't find fault in either. I want to believe, sure enough, but I think I also don't want to be as let down as I've been in the past. Let down, not becuase of the Texans, but more because of my "lofty" expectations. From what I see, barring injury plague, this IS shaping up to be the season I've dreamed about.... The season where Houston climbs out of obscurity and ridicule, makes a name for themselves and becomes one of those teams that the other teams don't look forward to visiting.
If nothing else, a win against KC will be a good "first step" in defining a break-out season, get some confidence to move to week two, provide a bit of swagger. Much better than a loss, and for no other reason a good step in the right direction. But know this... the Panthers and the Falcons are already where we still have yet to venture as a story of success, and until we get there, we will be an underdog. I would love to witness the Panther's loss in person durning week 2, but the only money you'll catch me put down on it is for the tickets! In fact, I've already got my jersey set for the game. In the heart of Redneck Country, I've Duct Taped over the CARR and sharpied in SCHAUB!

Go Houston!

DUDE you spoke that almost like the GOSPEL. I think you have just said what the majority of Houston fans feel. You almost brought tears to my eyes. I love the Texans, hell I love football and although I was away in the military during Houston's Prison sentence (5 years without football), it was horrible and I honestly feel that we look at the success of the Panthers and Jaguars in such an infant stage that we started to feel we could achieve. Now all of that is gone for me, Carr is gone, DD is gone, Capers, and CC and now I want to play some real football i.e. vertical passing, 45 yrd punts, run plays on 3rd an inches. You know FOOTBALL.

The very first game is three or four months away, but I like this game already! I think the Texans will be helped out this year by problems in Kansas City, Tennessee, and Jacksonville.
I will say I am optimistic about the season, and have been since hearing Kubiak and Smith talk to get pieces to fill in. Depth has always been an issue with the team and right now I really don't see that as a problem anymore. Can we beat KC? Sure, we have improved and they have not.
Then again, we beat the Colts last year and no one thought we could do that. To tell you the truth thats almost up there to the 19-10 beating we put on the Cowboys game if you ask me, nah nevermind that game was way better![:D]

This is it, baby, this is the year we shock the world! This is the year that we say "We're not the Texans you knew!" We are the new Texans! We will take on anyone, anytime, anywhere!
They all ridiculed us for not taking an offensive lineman high in the draft, we'll show them that good O-lines don't have to be built out of the best talent, they have to be built out of the best heart!
They all said that Matt Schaub wasn't experienced enough, he'll show them what three years of learning can do to a quarterback!
They all said that we didn't have a #2 wide receiver, Kevin Walter will show them that he is a bonafide #2 WR worthy of every defense's attention!
They all said that Ahman Green was over the hill, he's gonna show them all that he still has plenty left in the tank!
They all said that Mario was a bust, and they overlooked a serious injury to his foot to try to prove their predictions of failure right, but Mario's gonna come back hungry to prove them all wrong and will be a force to reckon with!
They all said that Amobi isn't ready to handle the NFL, he's gonna show them that he's made this big a jump twice before, and he'll make it again, and be just as good!
They all said that our safeties were rubbish, and one of them's gonna step up and show them all that they belong in this league!
They all said that the Texans would take years to recover from the Casserly/Capers era, we're prove once again that every year a team that they write off as having no chance makes it to the playoffs!
Now who's with me?!

The first half of this thred made me sick to my stomach, finally as i read on it became more sane for people who are calling themselves Texans Fans. i dont know about you but when i hear Kubes and Smith talk i believe and i never got that feeling with Capers and CC. if i believe i would have to think the players believe and when players believe in something they give that much more effort i can tell just by the way some of the things you hear the players say. the attitude around here in not lets try and win some games anymore it is WE WANT TO BE A PLAYOFF CALIBER TEAM. the whole attitude for the players has changed and i for on feel that mine has changed to i have never felt like i do now. we have depth on the team now where it will actually be hard to make this team at most positions. we have gotten better at almost every postion or we are going into the second year. there is no reason for anyone that is a texans fan not to be excited and talking as much *****T to people as we can.... moving on from the derogetory comments and past
