Does the way we moved today mean that Smith didnt have Mendenhall as his best player left on the board? Was Brown rated higher? Or was it that they saw the extra 3rd and replacement 6th picks as more valuable, their thinking then being that Brown, a 3rd, and a 6th as better than Mendenhall? I am just trying to see if i can get a better idea of why they passed b/c i am not gonna lie, i was really excited when i saw our name come up with one of the big RBs still there. I am confident that Brown will help solidify our line but i am still not sure that his impact will be greater than Mendenhall's would have been. I guess i will have to wait and see what we do with our aquired picks to see if the move will truly be justified.

I think it is helpful to keep things in perspective, though, and remember that every player we gain is one more than we had before. They will only make us better and can't make us worse. Welcome them all with open minds and dont be disappointed in who they arent, but be excited about who they are.

Come on guys we just picked up our LT for the next 7-8 years. The Boselli curse is over. When we kick arse tomorrow and pick up two starters in the 3rd we will love that we traded back. There are some great players in the 3rd. Look @ all those CB's!!!

lol, I just reread my post and it sounded kinda cheesy and sentimental. oh well. I agree and think that Brown will start for good while, but mendenhall could have too. But i am a glass half full kind of guy and i agree that the Boselli curse could very well be over. Cheers!!

The thing that bothers me the most is that ever since we got Gibbs everyone was saying how we ddnt need to pick an OT with a high draft pick and then we go and do exactly that. I really hope that Brown works out and one way will will be able to tell is if Gibbs plugs him in by mid season and he pass protects and run blocks like the way he is suppose to with the coaching that is provided by Gibbs. We will just have to wait and see, but if Brown is and will be everything Gibbs says he going to be then he will start sooner than later. You don't waist a 1st round draft pick on a project that has to wait to contribute to your organization.

No one said that except people who had the misconceived idea of the success in Denver. A good tackle more often comes from the higher rounds than the lower, and if you bet on a sleeper you are gambling. Could work out well and you get good value but could just as easily get nothing. A slight reach is different because it is a guy that is known to be good and you are just getting a little less value for your pick but still getting the same talent. Not many experts are going to say that our pick was anything more than a bit of a reach b/c the talent of the guy is still there to be recognized.

Kind of a common misconception, but may have been true when Denver first started running their line scheme. At that time, there were very few teams that were looking for the lighter, quicker guys and you actually could find quality guys later. Now it's more difficult as more teams are looking for them, so they go as early as the other guys.

I watched the video on Texans Home page and was very impressed with Brown's feet and lateral movements. This man showed me a great attitude and is very proud of his turf. I would trust you standing behind him for 4 seconds.

After our trade a trade was completed that gave up a 2nd,3rd and next years 1st. Maybe we didn't look hard enough or we didn't want to help that team out.
Would have loved the 2nd. OK I'm on board for Brown.

3 problems:

1. We didn't get enough for trading down. A 6th round pick was given up today to move up 2 spots in the third round. To drop 8 spots in the first round we should have gotten more than a 6 and a 3.

2. We reached for the kid, and we CONTINUE to reach for players. He was rated as the #7 tackle in the draft AT BEST, and we could have gotten him in the mid-second round. Why not trade down another 5 to 7 spots and still get the kid? Nobody was chomping at the bit to grab him.

3. If you've zeroed in on OT, why not just take someone at 18 or even trade up? This kid gave up 8 and a half sacks as a senior. That's an asston of sacks for your "go to, backside protector".

You are KIDDING YOURSELF if you think that tis kid can as much as slow down Kyle Vanden Bosch, Dwight Freeney, or even Jacksonville's new DE Derrick Harvey.

This high 3rd round value gave up 8 and a half sacks to a bunch of average college players. He is going to get USED six times a year in our division.

You have to like the draft for the Texans so far. It hasn't been a blow you away great draft but they have gotten high quality guys at positions we need.

Brown, Molden and Slaton are all solid pick ups.

I respect your misgivings, but you are really off base on some of your points for dislike.

1. i agree, we should have been able to get more for that move. you are right there.

2. Brown was the best tackle still on the board and Kiper said right after the pick that he had the guy rated higher than several guys taken before him. Right there tells me that there is a pretty good chance that atleast some others did too.

3. There were no other tackles better than him at 18 and if we took him there it would have been ridiculous and we might have stormed the stadium in revolt. But you can't know who might have taken him if we traded back much farther. Who would have thought the Falcons would have traded into 15 for Sam Baker?!

Sure some people probably saw Brown as a project that was not worth so hight a pick, but others recognized untapped potential and rated him much higher for it. Obviously Smith, Kubiak, and Gibbs all saw the latter. And I'll take their combined word over most peoples just about every time, especially when it comes to linemen.
