Since I joined a few months ago I've seen many posts that reference seats as having an "attribute" of being on the shady side of the stadium. Is this really a factor anymore? I know the Texans nearly killed half the stadium at the 2005 home opener against Pittsburgh by having the roof open on a 90+ degree day. But the backlash from that quickly got a very conservative roof policy established and since then I have rarely read of any problems with heat on the north end of the stadium. Is it still a problem? Or are there other problems, ie. glare, etc.? Or is it mostly just a continued lingering impression that the seats in the sun are 'disadvantaged' because of that frightful September day against Pittsburgh in 2005?

I have seats up in 606, so I haven't experienced the sunny side first-hand. From my observations last year, when the roof is open, the north end does get a lot of son exposure. I would think sunblock and sunglasses are in order for the first half or so of the game. But like you said, if its really really hot, the roof will be closed anyway.
Just my $.02.

It's not an issue from a temp standpoint any more since the roof is closed when game time temps are forecast to be less than 50 or more than 80.
I'm sure there are still some glare issues - from facing the sun - if you sit in certain areas between the north and east sides when the roof is open later in the season.

Last year you didn't hear anyone complaining because the two games the roof was open, it was 65 outside and sunny. There was a glare, but it wasn't hot. There was also wind that actually came in the stadium which helps because it was windy outside.
I'm going to tell you that my seats are 10 rows from the field in the full blown sun. If it is 80 at Noon, it could easily be 90 by 1:30. And even at 80, add 15 degrees and you have 95 in a stagnated stadium. Trust me, that will STILL be hot.
We just got lucky last year. People will complain again if it gets to 80 and they open the roof. I will be one of them

I don't think that sunny versus shady will be much of an issue anymore considering the new policy. I believe the Texans will look at what the projected temps are supposed to reach throughout the course of the game, not just at kick-off.

Last year had two perfect days with the roof open, so no issues other than putting on a pair of sunglasses.

Right now, it'll just be a matter of where you want to sit (how close to the field, yardline, etc.) rather than the sun factoring into the decision.

Go Texans

I wished they closed the roof for every game. I have season tickets, and yeah, most games are closed but the few that aren't, i'm in the sun for half the game. I alway look forward to halftime just for the shade.

I am 23 years old, and not a lot of things bother me. I have season tickets and when purchasing them one of the main things I considered was the sun vs. shade side. I was concerned with the heat a little, but more importantly, I didn't want to be forced to wear a hat or hold my hand up the entire time to keep the sun out of my eyes. I have sat in the sunny side and it wasn't terrible but, IF YOU HAVE AN OPTION definitely go with the shaded seats. I look over in the sunny side and see everyone squinting and with their hands up blocking the sun, thats not a fun way to enjoy a game IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION. But hey, it is football, and if you can get your seat preference and it's in the sun, then don't hold back. Besides, the roof is open what 3 maybe 4 times. 1/2 it's clowdy/overcast.
Go Texans..
