New Chronicle article partially about how hard Schaub has been working in the offseason: http://chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/4808193.html
Looks like he's a much harder worker than Carr. He's shown up to Reliant earlier than Kubiak sometimes!
Anyone get the feeling that this will be another summer of just Megan Manfull reporting on the Texans, while McClain and Justice away on "vacation"? (not that I really want Justice reporting, he's horrible. McClain at least provides some insightful information occasionally, but Justice is nothing but personal feelings about things and columns devoid of any real information or anything that was not already known).
I'm excited, how 'bout you?

I would be upset if Schaub wasn't putting forth this type of effort. He went from a 2nd string QB in Atlanta to being the Franchise QB in Houston. We gave Atlanta the farm for this guy and he is going to make more money in his first year in Houston than he has his entire career put together.
He has alot to prove to the media as well as the Houston fan base so if I am impressed by anything at this point it is that he is at least ackowledging the pressure that has been put on his shoulders and reacting appropriately.
I am not down playing his efforts by any means but I have to say that this was certainly expected of him by the fans and the organization.

I agree he should come in here and be setting a precedent for the level of work that he should be putting in. As the new Franchise QB you should be in here trying to be the best player possible.

True, he needed to fulfill his end of the deal and try to become the best QB he could for us, especially after what we gave up for him and how much more we're paying him. But Carr was the first overall pick, got a huge contract, was supposed to be the face of the franchise for years to come, and he still didn't show this much effort. Schaub will probably be expected to be the face as well (as most QBs are), but he is still showing a lot more effort than Carr did. Don't know if this is a positive for Schaub, a negative for Carr, or both.

I would say both. But that is just me.

Not to make anything out of this ... But in the last few year's David was always showing-up frist. But some how Carr hater's added that he didn't hang around after practice, then he wound up with a late too work and a early to leave rep. Now, I guess if Schabie shows real good in practice we well get panic, about another great practice QB.

Yeah, if I came in fresh from riding the pine for the preceding three years and got a $50 million dollar contract I would sure as hell put on a show !
I really want him to acomplish great things in the regular season,so I hope this just keeps on coming.

You gotta know Schuab has seen all the negative press regarding Carr's leadership and work ethic. He has spent 3yrs watching how the press/fans/coaches percieve a starting franchise QB based on his work ethic. Schuab would be a fool not to do what he is doing.

I totally disagree that we gave up the farm for Schaub. We gave up the equivelent of a mid first rounder. For a good QB, that's not expensive.
Let's see Carr cost us the first pick in the entire draft. Schaub cost us a mid first.
Carr hadn't ever played a down of NFL football when he was drafted first overall.. Schaub had 3 years of pro tutelage, and played in numerous exhibition and regular season nfl games under his belt when we spent a mid first on him.
When they did play, Schaub performed much better for his team than Carr did for his.
In their time in the league, Schaub proved to be a better leader, a harder worker, and and had much better overall intangibles.
Carr made more money than Schaub does now for less work, leadership, and production.
Did you ever say "we gave up the farm for Carr", or tell him he better come in before the coaches show up? I doubt it.
The Carr coddling machine is still working overtime, even in his absense.

We gave up the farm for Schaub considering that we swapped firsts gave up a 2nd rounder this year and next year for a mystery man, simply based on potential. I am, by no means, against what we gave up to establish new leadership. I am just affirming the fact that Schaub has alot to prove before he will silence the nay sayers.
I drink Battle Red Kool-Aid like everyone else on these boards but occasionally its to wash down that nasty taste of reality.

Like someone said, if you put it in terms of draft value, the Texans gave up the equivalent of a mid-first rounder. A dozen teams spend more every year on guys based on potential.
It was a high price to pay for Schaub, and I don't like the fact that we don't have a second rounder next year either but giving up the farm? No. If it works, great. If it doesn't, consider Schaub another Travis Johnson -- although we do have the benefit of seeing Schaub in action a little bit, so we kinda know what we are getting..
Starting QBs cost money and we wasted a hell of a lot more on the Carr Experiment than we have spent on Schaub - in terms of draft value and real dollars.

i just think you have to take somethings into consideration when you compare the effort schaub is giving us to the one carr gave us...remember carr was a family man who had a home life to take care of when he wasn't at the office...schaub is single and doesn't have any kids to take care of...anybody on this board who is a parent can relate to the amount of time during the day that you are needed for your little ones...also schaub is being given his first chance to be a full-time starter...so naturally he is going to be putting in a lot more work since this is a new system that he has to get down...and also keep in mind that the media is having a field day with this topic...remember carr's work ethic was in question so they want to make sure that if the next QB's work ethic is ever in question we all hear about it...so when all the knews they get is he's here first and leaves last that's what they're going to keep telling us until that changes

caddy caddy caddy I never read anywhere about Carr being first at practice. Why don't YOU give Schaub a chance. We gave Carr a chance for 5 years.

Yeah, I gave Carr a chance until midway through last season when, with a QB and offensive guru for a head coach, a not-that-bad offensive line, a good young pass-catching TE, one of the best WRs in the NFL, and an experienced WR to throw to, he still couldn't do much more than the 1-yard hitch to AJ or the dumpoff to the RB. And after Kubiak stopped trusting him (which was for all intents and purposes the Oakland game), I knew for sure that Carr was done in Houston. I didn't want it to turn out that way, I was for not drafting VY and giving Carr another chance under smart offensive minds to turn around his career, but he let me, and the rest of the Texans fanbase, down.
Carr may have been ruined by the old coaching staff, but I wasn't looking for explanations; this is football, and the only thing that matters is the results on the field.
