if i was at my house in the states i have 25 year team signed on a pennant. I think back then the only current players were Munchak, Matthews, Childress and Moon.
Although i think Dishman was a great CB, Jefferies and Givins WR

I'm not sure if I've ever heard of Kevin Bell or Corey Thomas...when did they play? Jack Tatum was only here one year and I think he was a SS. Blaine Bishop had a better Oiler career than he did. Bishop was a heck of a player fwiw. Here are a few notable Oilers over the years...
Zeke Moore CB
Chris Dishman CB
Jim Norton SS (first jersey ever retired by the Oilers)
Vernon Perry S
Mike Reinfeldt FS
Curly Culp DT (borderline hall of famer)
Ray Childress DT (he played some DE but was a better DT - he wasn't quick enough to be a great edge rusher)
Charley Hennigan WR (5x pro bowl equivalent and selected to the all-time AFL All League team)
Bob Talamini G
Tim Wilson FB
Leon Grey OT
Al Jamison OT (first team All Pro 3x)
William Fuller DE
Carl Mauck C
Toni Fritsch K
Greg Montgomery P

Carl Mauck at center. How about Tim Wilson who was Earl's blocking back during those glory years?

Did you know Geroge Blanda played QB/Kicker/Punter for the Oilers?
Also, didnt we have a pro bowler OT named Leon Gray?
Never forget Tim Wilson at FB.

How about Giff Nielson, Chris Chandler, and Bucky Richardson as starving backup QBs........:D

What about 00 Kenny Burroughs WR

I believe he was a strong safety, Blaine Bishop.
I can't remember the opponent, I think SF, was the end of the half and BB saved a TD with a monster hit at the gaol line. I believe it took him out for a few games as well.

i still need a punter and DE.
blanda did not punt for them he only kicked and QBed
I gave you a couple....all the players I listed were Pro Bowlers or the equivalent (except for Carl Mauck and Toni Frisch perhaps) You can probably move Cannon to RB and put in Mac Haik as your TE. Most people know him for his Ford store but he was a great TE from Ole Miss. Not having Hennigan as a WR over Jeffries and Burroughs is a crime too. Who is Cory Thomas?

Um, he was a Cowboy pards.
Michael Barrow?

I can understand settling for Moon at QB, because the Oilers never really had a great one. I think Pastorini had more heart though. That 1970s team definitely did versus the ones in the 80s & 90s.

Pastorini had heart but he wasn't very good after he took all those beatings...That said, he was my favorite QB in the NFL back then but his knees were horrible and he was a low % QB that was not mobile but had a big arm. I'd put Blanda ahead of him easily.
Carl Mauck needs to be at C.
David Williams needs to be at RT.
Either Mike Barber or Jamie Williams at TE .. let me think on that one a bit (Billy Cannon was a RB)
Replace Jeffires with Charlie Hennigan.
The correct spelling is Ernest Givins.
Burrough doesn't have an 's' at the end.
That's what I noticed at a quick glance.... I need to look at your defense more later....

You may want to remove Kevin Bell at C, as he doesn't exist or was never an oiler.

Need to change MLB to Greg Bingham.
After further consideration, I think Mike Barber edges out Jamie Williams at TE.
The correct spelling is Ernest Givins.
Not telling you how to do your list but typically, All Time teams are 11 guys on offense, 11 on defense, and a punter, kicker, and return man (if you want).
The 11 on offense would consist of: 2 WRs, a TE, LT, LG, C, RG, RT, QB, RB, and FB. Then you could (and should) still have White Shoes as your return man.

I would put Jim Norton(Punter/Strong Safety) on the list instead of Greg Montgomery. He could save you a roster spot.;)

There is no way George Webster beats out Gregg Bingham for MLB...also while Ernest Givins may have given us the "electric glide", Drew Hill had his best years for us and outperformed Givins

Dave Casper played here at the end of his career .
I agree about Bingham . I think Lathon is the odd man out .

Bingham was a MLB .

Actually it was Gregg Bingham, an Oilers linebacker, who had told me about it, in the locker room, without spelling out how it worked. I found out when I ran into Bingham in a bar in the off-season.
"Very simple," he said. "We read Fouts' feet before the snap. When they were square, he would hand off on a running play. When one was behind the other, it was going to be a pass. Worked every time."

How come no one has mentioned Sean Jones? He was definately a force to be reckoned with when you are talking old Oilers...

How come noone mentioned Bubba McDowell for SS, that dude laid hits and got picks and was a Pro Bowler too. I don't really recall Bingham but Al Smith should be pushing him hard for that spot. He was a pro bowler too. I also believe Alonzo Highsmith was a real good FB and very complete player.

Wasn't Highsmith a HB ? And I agree McDowell deserves consideration.
Thanks guys for all of the memories, really enjoyed going through this thread and reliving some old times. This brought back a lots of old memories that made me smile.;)

Greg Bingham played along side of Robert Brazile for years. Brazile had the nickname though....Dr Doom or something like that?

We should put together an All-time 53 man roster so we can include some more of the great players. I mean, Pastorini has to be on the team, at least behind Moon.

Point in fact....The playoff game against S.D. where both Earl and Dante were hurt and Neilsen and Carpenter had to start. I remember Carpenter getting hurt and crawling up the field for a 1st down. That was the game Perry got his 4 picks I think.
ANyway, we won.

Why do we pick only the first team? Why does Rice play Texas?
I will have some comments on the WRs tomorrow or the next day - whenever I get some time to gather some thoughts. Givins and Burrough will definitely not be my top two. Hennigan will most likely be one of my top two. Burrough will probably be my #5. Hill, Givins, and Jeffires are an interesting compare when you really sit down and think about it and re-look at their years here (sorry Curtis Duncan and Webster Slaughter lovers - they aren't in this discussion). BWS is not in the discussion as a WR either - but he's rightfully accounted for as a return specialist.
I think it's important to use stats but not as the be-all end-all, (such as Givins' holding the reception and yardage record and all of the playoff receiving records as primary justification for him being one of the top two). There's other non-measurables and context in play - especially for the guys you've seen play.
Agree on Bingham being first team MLB. Jim Norton probably needs to be at the safety opposite Kenny Houston. I really haven't looked much at the defense but at a glance it seems to be coming along nicely.
Updated:
My Top Five WRs
1. Charles Hennigan
2. Drew Hill
3. Ernest Givins
4. Haywood Jeffires
5. Ken Burrough
Justification and pro's-con's later....

Where's Charlie Joiner ?
Where's Charlie Joiner ?
Same place as Dave Casper and Ken Stabler. In the Hall of Fame mainly because of their accomplishments with other teams. Joiner's career stats with the Oilers were essentially matched in one season by Hennigan, Jeffires and Hill. You say Joiner, I say Charger.
You can tell that Bud is partial to Joiner by reading the Oilers/Titans Media Guide where he's conspicuously listed as one of the team's Pro Football Hall of Famer's among the likes of Campbell, Matthews, Munchak, and Moon even though he only played 36 of his career 239 career games with the Oilers.
Trading him to the Bengals is right up (down) there with the Largent deal...

You kidding? Although Largent was a great player, no way he could have carried the Oilers on his back the way Earl was able to. I thought that was a brilliant trade by Bum.
