I hear that Greg Ellis of the Cowboys is not happy in Dallas. Do you think the Texans should try to trade for him? Maybe give them Babin and anthony weaver. Ellis is not happy with the 3-4 defense and wants to play in the 4-3.

Ellis has been one of my favorite players in the NFL. I was a fan of his while in school at UNC, and being a Cowboys fan at the time, I was really excited when he went there, and did so well. I think he was put in a bad situation by Parcells, and he does better in the 4-3. Personally, I'd love to have him on the team, and I think he'd be an upgrade over Weaver and Babin.
Realistically, though, Ellis has been around for a while. He's just returning from a major injury. You have to wonder whether he'll be slowing/wearing down in the near future. Without Weaver and Babin, the Texans would be awfully thin at DE if Ellis went down (now, if the trade were just for Babin...). Also, for the most part (Ahman Green being the exception), the Texans seem to be trying to go for younger players this year, so I'm not sure someone like Ellis would fit in with their overall strategy very well. Plus, I think he'd be looking for more money, and I'm not sure the Texans have the cap space to spend on him.

He was unhappy last year to and then when he was racking up sacks in Parcells 3-4 he loved it. Now that Parcells is gone and they have a Number 1 pick ready to take his spot, He is again unhappy, I say ney to signing him I just feel that he must have lost some significant burst or something because its major enough the cowboys want to bring in a rookie to take his job.

It will depend if Ellis is back to form from before his injury last year. But, if you ignore last year (when the Cowboys moved Ellis to LB and he played a short season after getting hurt), here are his stats:
Year Games SoloTackles Assists Sacks PassDefense
2005 16 25 10 8 6
2004 16 44 15 9 9
2003 16 33 15 8 9
And for Weaver:
Year Games SoloTackles Assists Sacks PassDefense
2006 15 26 9 1 5
2005 10 28 5 2 0
2004 16 35 4 4 3
2003 15 26 9 5 6
Seriously - I don't see how you can say Weaver is as good as Ellis, though to be fair, they're different types of players. I've only watched Weaver for one year (I watched Ellis closely for several years), but everything I've seen tells me Ellis has been the better player, particularly as a pass rusher. Now, when you factor in that Ellis is older, is coming off a major injury, doesn't have the year of experience with our defense like Weaver does, and might have higher salary demands, I can see saying you'd rather have Weaver, but I don't see why you'd say Weaver is as good as him - he's never shown it.

I'd definately take Ellis over Weaver and specially Babin.. 5 sacks don't cut it.
