How do you see Kubiak match up against the great motivator?
I think of Jimmy Johnson w/Miami & Cowboys. There is something there.
What I can tell you is that these coaches get the right 'mix' of players to succeed; and that includes QB. Aikman, Pastorini... need I say more?
Kubiak has demonstrated 'a' positive move as time move forward. There is no doubt that this team will get better. The question is how do you take the existing talent & bring them to face one one of the best team's ever (Pittsburgh vs. Oilers).
Bum knew how to do it. One of the greatest coaches ever !

Alot of people let it go unnoticed but, I noticed that after the loss to vy in Houston we played much better. If I am not mistaken, we beat The Colts the following week. In a press conference Kubiak was asked if he wished he had picked vince and Kubiak replied "No John, I like my team!"
I think it was that day and at that time that Kubiak really pulled in the belief of his team in him.

Sorry to get picky here but we lost to the Titans. Their QB played well and was the reason they won but it's a team sport.
As for Kubiak, he's a players coach. He was a QB himself so he knows how things work from a player's perspective, so that is how he approaches the guys on the team. They listen to him and trust him because he's been there. He also coached under one of the greatest coaching minds of the current era in Mike Shanahan so he's seen it done right at the highest level.
I don't think Kubes has to make rah rah speeches and yell a lot to motivate his players. He lets them know when they're doing a good job and when they're not. As long as his decisions result in wins he won't have any problems getting the guys to play hard for him.
I really have no comment about Bum.....I don't live too much in the past

Kubiak looks sedate, but he is capable of getting his point across very clearly. The players respect that he knows when to jump them, when to back off and when to let them figure it out on their own. They also love that he challenges them and isn't afraid to say playoffs like the previous regime.
The players also know if they don't perform, they are heading for the bench or the free agent market. Ask Carr.

Yes, but Kubiak said that Carr was his QB. At the moment, we have an unproven QB. It will be interesting how the next two seasons develop.
A good motivator, like Bum, will make average players play good & great players play great!
That edge & coach will make the difference.
Bum won with Dan. Could Bum win with David Carr? Interesting question...

David was Bob's QB he came with the job. David as the QB was part of the interveiw process. That said I like David as a person and I think the franchise failed him as much as he failed the franchise.

Bum won w/Earl. That is why Earl can barely walk. Kubiak is a "team" coach, not a "give the ball to Earl" coach.

Honestly, If bum hadn't handed Earl the ball 35 times a game there would have been hell to pay from the fans/press and Bud Adams. What was he going to do? MAKE Pastorini throw the ball 3 times then out?? The hind site on those teams gets stranger and stranger.

Apples and Oranges I think.
Bum was smash mouth and built the team with that idea.
Kubiak seems to be more of a finese type guy.
Even though Bum never got the Oilers to the SuperBowl, he is still one of my favorite public figures... The Country Sage. It 's going to be interesting to see his son's philosophy with the Cowgirls, I might even watch a few of their games this year. I guess I can set the DVR to record them instead of Bass Masters.
