Kinda looked like cramps to me. We'll see what the post-practice quotes say.

It was just cramps. Scary moment for a second or two to see Taylor on the ground, but with the heat and with training camp just starting, it's not surprising to see guys cramping up. Fred Weary had to miss part of practice with cramps, too.
Here's what Kubiak said about Taylor after practice:
(on if RB Chris Taylor was cramping) “Yes, just cramping up. You know, he had a little bit of that problem last year; he cramped up on us some. It’s hot and we had some shells on this morning for the first time and had a good long practice, so that’s part of it. You’ve got to keep pushing.”

Thanks a bunch. I'm glad it wasn't anything bad, it's not what we need right now.

Nice info Nick. You're really bring it strong today. lol. Good to have a source with the team to clear up a lot of these things.

Y'all can get all the training camp info from their (B.Bentley & Nick's) blog on the main (HT.com) site. Go to news and then to training camp 2008. Great quotes and observations!

I'm not too big on this hot as hell training camp stuff. I think it leads to our injury problems later in the season. Hopefully, these coaches are aware of that possibility. I think I'd err on the side of soft when it comes to the heat, but not the training itself--ie, air-conditioned (or partially, anyway) bubble.

I was thinking if CC was still in charge of the Texans, he would have Capers put them in dark uniforms to take advantage of the opportunity for "heat training."
From my years of training (when I was a younger man,) you need to train in heat to get acclimated to it, but the body cannot be trained to overcome it. Too little training in heat will make you more susceptible to it; too much training in heat will make you more susceptible to it. I just hope the staff knows the proper balance.

NSThanks for the input you bring straight from the horses mouth......only problem now we can't cuss and discuss. :(
On the serious side I believe I speak for the majority of the regulars here that it is nice to have you posting the facts. ;)

I guess by now everybody knows it was cramps... ( I saw them flexing his leg immediately after he fell down... and then getting him up and walking immediately) but I think Taylor is screwed if they keep working him out at Fullback... that means he is out of consideration for the A. Green, C. Brown, D. Walker and S. Slaton competition.

I think it is to Taylor's advantge if he works out at full back. I don't think Kubs wants to keep 2 fullbacks on the roster and if Taylor can play both RB and FB, he is much more valueable and more likely to make the final roster.

I think Cook may be the one who gets screwed if Taylor works out as a FB/RB.

Yep, that frees up a roster spot on rb.

Got to agree, unless injuries hit pretty soon into the season, I don't see how 4 RBs (assuming my boy Darius is sent back to practice squad) will all get many carries if even one of them is having good seasons. Slaton if he is as fast as they say will no doubt get time as a third downer but everyone else has more years on Taylor and are more likely to be trusted.

Please I hope this ahppen, Cook needs to go, Mr. fumbleruski has hurt us too many time, and not helped enough to offset his mistakes.

I guess my point is that I don't see Taylor working out at fullback. Taylor just doesn't have the blocking mindset....and if that is the case, Taylor is toast.

Not necessarily, they were trying him out at FB last year.

Saw the interview with Taylor which was posted today. According to Taylor, he "never played fullback". I still get the feeling he's toast.... wait a minute now Chris Brown is hurting...

Yeah I'm going to keep a close eye on this. Brown already having back cramps. I am one of the ones that has been big on Walker since last year, so this is going to get interesting.
TC sort of washes away all the speculation doesn't it? I guess it really boils down to who can play and is ready to go by the last cuts. Chris Brown not being ready to go the minute they put the pads on is just starting to irritate me cause I saw him as somebody that could step in if there isn't anything left in Green's tank... Coach Kubs can NOT be happy.
If Walker ends up being one of those guys that makes it through camp without getting hurt... he has got a chance.

Taylor didnt ever "play" fullback but he did get some work at fullback last year before his injury, and to continue the discussion it was also reported and stated by Kubes that he was doing/looking good at both positions.

I bet anything Green will actually end up being the back who doesn't suffer an injury. Watch.

Albeit I tried to find in his bio and anywhere else that he even "practiced" at fullback before this year (do you have a link?) b/c all I can find is he was injured in Training camp and "placed on injured reserve on July 30, 2007." http://www.houstontexans.com/team/player.asp?player_id=224#career_stats
None the less, I have read the recent (28th July Kubiak quotes) and am surprised he is doing well since he has virtually no experience at the position. With Chris Brown missing practices for back spasms... this recent praise bodes well for Taylor.

My gut has been telling me that he will shine this year and next. He could end his career with an AFC Championship or Superbowl with the Texans.

It was last year in OTA's and at the begining of TC. Was reported in the chronicle, chron.com, Texans TV, 610am, 790am, all the local news sports reports and shows, as well as posted here, and on one of Bob Allen's specials. But he was injured shortly into it all(here's a link, but for the most part its common knowledge that it was all over the place. http://www.houstontexans.com/community/Story.asp?story_id=3368 ) . The thing is they were wanting not only for him to spell the FB but to have Green and Taylor on the field at the same time. If you remember Darius Walker barely made the PS last year he was almost released due to his attitude and Kubes was hesitant to activate him when he did(remember Echemandu?), but we needed a back(he made the most of his second chance). As a note A.M. Riley reported again this morning that the coaches aside form the usual suspects (AJ, Mario, DeMeco, etc) Taylor was a top5 guy in his performance and was in fact excelling at RB and FB.

thanks for the link... it also notes that Dressen was playing fullback during OTAs in the link. (relevent to another link that has him deep snapping as well)

Yeah it didnt get as much pub as Taylors or Abbate's (JD's was gonna be the 3rd TE anyways). Only other time I remember it being mentioned was OD ribbing him about being a do it all. Claiming he(JD) could play LS, TE, FB, and H-Back like Cooley and Wycheck (early on) were used, and he was the strongest, fastest, best looking TE, and etc. But on that note we've all seen OD, JD, Bruener, and K-Dub motion into the backfield and block on a running play.

I'm all for having a physical TC but do u guys think that the defense doesn't like Chris Taylor? whenever I watch the camp highlights, he seems to get knocked down harder or just hit harder in general
like I said, I have no problem with our defense :D
do u just think it's Chris Taylor's balance?
thanks guys
It's probably more of a case of time, place, and what they're doing than anything. Not to mention he is the biggest of the RB's so he's naturally gonna punish the defense a lil more and pose a different type of challenge. Not to mention he's working at FB, so it maybe some extra respect being repaid.
