Wide receiver Andre Johnson pulled up after a long route at training camp practice Saturday morning. He limped off the field and received attention from the Texans' training staff. Afterward, he said that he didn't hear any pop, but his groin tightened up on him.

We'll have a full report, including quotes from 'Dre and coach Gary Kubiak, on HoustonTexans.com shortly.

Thanks,

I was right over by that corner (NE) of the endzone & wondered what happened. Johnson and Demps went up for a deep ball & it was defended well by Demps. Next thing you know, Dre was kinda hobbling across the field to the far sideline holding his groin... This happened literally 10 minutes before practice was over

i know this is off-topic, but Nick, any word on Mike Bell? He appeared to be injured on an early run to the outside and I didn't see him take contact the rest of practice.

Here are coach Kubiak's quotes on Mike Bell -

(on RB Mike Bell’s injury) “He’s got a little hamstring problem. To be honest with you he’s not in the shape the rest of our football team is and we found that out real fast. He got gassed the first night he was out here, he got gassed earlier today, and he’s not up with our team. Unfortunately, that’s what happens when you bring guys in the middle of camp or stuff, if they’re not in excellent shape; they get exposed in a way very, very quick. I just don’t think he was in very good condition.”

guys its just a pulled groin...its not like his leg is gonna fall off. I have had alot of those in my day. Dre is a 5 year vet, I'm sure he knows how to run a route or two, so if he needs a week off to make sure his groin is alright, that should be fine.

I was in the corner and the ball was a bit underthrown and I thought it was curious why aj didn't go up and meet the ball at it's highest point but he probably felt a tweak right before the ball was getting there. It looked like a minor issue to me, but everyone around me was holding their breath as soon as it happened. Demps misplayed an easy pick and did a couple of pushups.

Reeves also could have had a pick but misjudged where the ball was going to.
Reeves released him to Demps...that was all Demps as far as not making that play.

Yeah the pushups got a few laughs. Probably would've been more laughs had AJ not limped off.

No, not yours, because it's factual in content. I was referring to the dude who started a thread and posted a poll asking a really inappropriate injury-related question.

I think Andre will be okay. We have a great medical staff from what i hear and see.

Groin injuries can be pesky but as long as you have a vet like andre you can play without making it worse with proper precautions as lomng as it isn't a serious pull.

Hoping for the best case scenario here. Not news i wanted to hear though. But we have a solid recieving corp. And should be able to win with our team even without certain players for a spell. Injuries are going to happen and this year with our depth i think we are as prepared as we can be. Plus, after last year we know how to step up and handle it if anything bad should happen.
Right now though i think we don't need to worry about this.

Andre has always been ready so if he gets some rest at the beginning of the season..it could be a good thing down the road.

dre will be fine...he has about a month before regular season begins to get right.....and i think he will be alright by then. and even if not, i think we have enough guys to cover for andre till he gets back. walter and davis' performance last season has won my confidence. after all, thats what we build depth for. the giants lost a top 3 nfl tight end in jeremy shockey but they still rallied to win the superbowl. the patriots lost a starting corner back, had troy brown playing corner, and they still won the super bowl. worst case scenario, with the stable of backs we got now, we can just run heavy and take pass less till dre comes back. i don't think its a big deal at all. dre will be fine.

Andre has been waiting forever for this team to contend, and I really hope he is there when we are on a roll. He could have easily demanded a trade with the "other number 8" but he still made the Pro Bowl!

Again, just really hope he doesn't have the injury bug again and can be happy that he stayed with us in the toughest times.

Kubiak said AJ will likely not play against the Broncos, which is a no brainer. Groin pulls are tricky and there's no need to play AJ in the first preseason game. That's good for the rest of our receiving corps. We've got several young talented guys on the roster than will get some quality playing time. Pre season is to find out what kind of team you have so we'll see if we can pick up where we left off when Dre was out last year.
