View Full Version : Excited about the first preseason game?

Granted, it's the preseason, but there are plenty of reasons to be excited about this Saturday's game.

I'm always a sucker for backstories, so the Denver storyline intrigues me at least a little in this one. More so, I'm eager to see our rookies play, our young running backs (Slaton, Taylor, Walker) compete and our running game perform under Alex Gibbs. Remember, this will be the first time our guys cut block since we aren't practicing it against ourselves for obvious reasons. These preseason games will be critical "live bullets" practice in that regard.

What are you all excited about for the preseason? And, to that end, are you even excited about the preseason at all? Or do you view it as a waste of time until Sept. 7 at Pittsburgh comes around?

Let's hear it.

I don't view preseason as a waste at all. As a matter of fact I PM'ed anothe member on here just yesterday saying that you would think the Texans were in the Superbowl with how anxious I am for the first preseason game.

There are so many variables I am looking for. As you said seeing our RB's in a game situation, is high on my list. I want to see how our starting D-line looks, our safeties and corners, I will pretty much be watching every position, and as long as we get the game in my area (Corpus Christi), I will record it and probably watch it 10 times before the next game.

My name is Kyle, and I am addicted to football.

I've been counting the days for more than a week. I just cannot wait to get back in reliant and hear the crowd. And I'm going to enjoy the game for the same reasons as you. I will be waiting for the regular season after about week 2 or 3 of the preseason...

I'm excited! It means the season is just that much closer. It will be interesting to watch Duane Brown at left tackle & Molden at CB. I'd like to see the defensive line get really nasty and set the tone for the whole season.

I am pumped for the preseason. I've spent the last month busting my @$$ looking for some decent and affordable pre-season tix(as pumped as I am I didn't want to pay regular price for preseason tix) and I got my Denver tix on their way and found some Buc tix too.

I want to see who will be the break out player this year and what rookie will be a surprise stand out. You know, all that good stuff. Heck, when I was the Hall of Fame Game on the other day I though I was dreaming. I need some football! Gimme NOW!!!

I'm pumped to go see this game on Saturday. I've always been to regular season games, never a preseason game. I'm excited to see the guys who are trying to earn a spot on the team play.

Hi guys, my name is Ronnie...

I am also heavily addicted to football. Any football information is good information as long as it's not Farve... :o So I will view the stadium on Saturday night and know I am not alone... Here is to us finally getting our fix for the new season...

And I hope Mr Slayton is all that and a bag of chips.... Personally, I love pre-season... You get to see a bunch of rookies playing in the 3rd and 4th quarters that are giving it there all. Because for some of them, there is no tomorrow...

Take Mike Hart and Colt Brennan in the HOF game. They were impressive, even if it wasn't against starters...

I'm pretty darn excited and it sucks for me because I will have to hold my excitement one day longer then Saturday since I live in New Mexico and can't see the game live on T.V. NFL Network will be showing the game Sunday night at 8 so I'll have to wait till then. I'm also struggling with whether or not I'm going to visit this website between then or just wait it out to watch Sunday with no knowledge of the results. Hopefully I'll have enough discipline to do the later.

Preseason games don't excite me...for the most part they are just glorified practices. Most teams don't play their starters enough to matter and who can blame them? Too much at stake with costly injuries. I think it's criminal that tickets prices are that high for games that don't count in the standings.

I like football a ton but don't consider myself an addict. I do fine when football season is over.

I only like the preseason games because that means football is here. I will sit there and be happy watching 3rd stringers play just knowing that I don't have to watch the astros any more. Go Texan's and 11-5 playoff bound!

Booooooooo!

Oh booooo all you want. :)

Just being honest. I don't spend thousands of dollars on it anymore. It's become far too expensive for me to enjoy in person. I watch if I can. If I can't I can catch up online with boards such as this. And I'm fine with that.

I do enjoy the NFL game first and foremost as far as sports go though. But preseason? Oh gosh no.

Hi, my name is William and I am addicted to Texans Football.

Some of you might understand my addiction. Sometimes I will keep my self up all night just thinking about football. I crave everything football in the offseason. I will watch AFL, CFL(if they broadcast the game), and i even caught my self watching womans football. So for this Pre-season game to start would be outstanding!

P.S. After every Pro-Bowl I tear up a little.

First, these responses have been great. We'll make sure to steer our coverage on HT.com toward topics like our DBs, o-line, running backs, etc., that seem to be the popular topics.

Second, on playing time in this game-

Based on what Kubiak has said, Andre Johnson probably will not play this weekend. But for the most part, the rest of our guys should be out there for at least a little while.

And, if you read between the lines on what Kubiak said today after practice, it wouldn't be surprising to see some starters play for more than the first quarter.

(on if he has decided who will start this weekend) “No, we’re going to talk about it tonight. Historically, your starters are going to play up to a quarter, and then you’re going to work with your twos in periods two and three and look at all of your young players in period four. Historically, that’s what we do. We’ll get up there and talk about it, but I think our team is in a situation where we’ve got some young players that are starters that to we need to play more than the typical first 15 plays. (http://www.houstontexans.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=4471) So we’ve got to go decide who those guys are.”

I am stoked about our rookie class. Along with Bennett and Amobi to see where they are at in year two. I want to see how our new authentic ZBS looks. And as most how our running game does.

I was clean from 1997-2001 and relapsed.

Preseason to me is a test of where we are as a team. Losing a preseason game is just as bad as losingt any game..imo. I feel like winning is a feeling and an attitude and so i don't care who is on the field..i want to see us win the game. With our 4th string guys or whoever. I want to see a lot of heart and determination and i want to see desire.

I think if you can show all that in a preseason game then ,by the time thr reg season kicks off...you are ahead of 60% of the nfl.

I think you can look at the statistics of teams who make the playoffs and how many preseason games they won and there seems to be a direct correlation.

You lose all 4 preseason games...you don't make the playoffs.
You win all 4 preseason games you make the play offs.
It's important to get the winning started even in preseason. And so i say to those who say preseason doesn't matter, i think it matters a lot.
There is no better way of testing the teams strength then to watch that first few preseason games and see how fierce they appear. And how well the 2nd unit does against their second unit.

In the past , our second and third units usually got wiped pretty bad by our opponents (except for last year) and this was evidence of our lack of depth in those areas. I think we have made huge strides filling those gaps...and even though i still think we need a few more things before we become a powerhouse, i think we have enough to compete in OUR division this year.

So, i feel pretty good about this year and i want to see us give it all against Denver Saturday. Start showing the NFL community that we are for real and we are taking no prisoners. We have paid our dues and even if we aren't as strong in talent as some of the teams out there...we have karma on our side and one lucky bounce is all we need to win a tight game.
The other games i think we should just win without the bounce.

So , yeah, i'm excited! Ha!

I'm ready for some football action. Any (NFL) football is good football, but Texans football is the best.;) I'm ready to Mr. Slaton. See him hit the whole and run for daylight. See him outrun Champ. Haha no I doubt that, and I doubt Champ will be playing when Slaton is in. And best of all what you and I look foward to;) is the broadcast. Joel Myers, Spencer Tillman, and Mr. Bob"I like to come on air and do interviews every 5 minutes" Allen. Haha I had to throw that out there. This year though, you only get 3 games of them.

I'm mostly excited about everything to be honest with you.. but the reason I really watch the Pre-Season games is to see how things are unfolding.. you know answer a couple of questions that I have stored in the back of my mind.

(Offense)
How much of an impact will The ZBS have on our RB's YPC?
What's with this Alex Brink kid??
Was Steve Slaton a "System" Back in WV??
Can Jacoby Jones bring it this year or will he go into the "sophmore slump"?
Can our O-Line keep Schaub out of the training room this year?

(Defense)
Will Super Mario have another double digit sack season?
What about Amobi and that "Sophmore Slump" thing.. can he avoid it like Mario did?
Will Colvin be that other Pass Rushing threat that we need to finally top the Colts and the division this year?
We've got soo much depth at LB, who should really go where?
Is this Xavier Adibi kid really as good as i've been reading?
What about the Molden guy?
Can Molden and Fred Bennett be the combo we're looking for?
What is Glenn Earl gonna do now that he's back?

So many questions that i have and pre-season helps me pick up some of those answers...

Hey my name is Dennis and I'm a Texans addict.

I am ready for the preseason opener with the Donkeys. I want to see what our rooks can do along with our revamped o-line and ZB scheme. I also want to see if our D has gotten meaner. I'm hoping that our secondary will surprise me and show me that they belong in the NFL. If all those things come true, I'll be one happy fan.
