The texans do need it all, We need it all..
They are just basing this off last season. We will see after this season what we need. What we need is for the season to start today.

Sometimes, it seems to me like the media even tends to base things on two seasons ago, which would certainly explain a lot of the bashing. We may not even be getting credit for our 6 wins last year with some of them, until we do at least that well again this year.

Aint that the truth.
...think of the season as a school year.
A = 12-4 or better
B = 11-5 or 10-6
C = 8-8 or 9-7
D = 6-10 to 7-9
F = 5-11 or worse.
We went from an F- to a D. Yeah, we improved but its still not a passing grade. Until we start posting "passing grades" on a regular basis, expect the criticism to continue. That's just how it is.
The good news, to me anyway, I see a C+ or better in the near future. ...but I'm a homer

The 2007 Texans remind me of the 2004 Chargers
Remember when everybody and I mean EVERYBODY around the league and press bashed them on a daily basis, calling them the worst team/FO/Owner in the league and agreeing with Eli for crying for his daddy to get him out of SD. Everybody bashed the Oline, defense, and pretty much the whole team. Then everybody was stunned when they turned it around and nobody saw it coming.
I really don't care about all the bad press. However I do care about the nonstop bashing Houston takes for the 2006 draft, because those **** idiots are too preoccupied with Mario/Bush decision that they fail to realize Houston arguably had the BEST DRAFT IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE!!!
Mario Williams
DeMeco Ryans
Charles Spencer
Eric Winston
Owen Daniels
Wali Lundy
David Anderson
Chris Taylor (UDFA)
They pracitcally hit on all of their picks pulling 5 high quality starters, 1 ROY, and quality depth out of last years draft...........with no mention whatsoever.
Another thing that irritates me is despite 1 injury hampered season they label Mario a bust which really chaps my *** and as soon as Young started making plays they automatically throw Young into the equation with Bush......so now we should of took Bush/Vince Young, they can't even decide who we should of took now. Speaking of Reggie Bush if I had the chance, I would trade him straight up for Jones-Drew..........seriously.

Yea Right! We swept the Jags last yr. and all they need is "consistancy". We of course "need it all."

What we need is for our team to finish 500 or better so they can shut up the critics a bit. That's exactly what it is going to take...."critics" are critical of bad teams...something we have been since day 1. Winning is the only thing that cures this....not spin, not crying about how unfair things are.... The fans of bad teams are generally the only ones really optimistic when it comes to teams that have not shown they can win consistantly over the years....more or less.

Hardly. If we win any game the opposing team "Just had an off day." or "Need to learn to beat the lesser teams" or "Need to learn to be more consistant." I guarantee you that is what they mean by the Jag's needing to be more consistant. The fact they got beat by the Texans twice is what they are referring to. EVERYONE still considers a match up with the Texans this yr a blessing in the schedule.

When we start winning, the media will take notice. And they always do. I know that this board does - and they are looking at the same things that we are. When we do start winning, it will give them "a story". They'll come into the Texans locker room like vulchers wanting to talk with Pitts or AJ and ask what it was like loosing and now how does it feel winning. But Vinny's right. When you have a bad record season after season - the media is going to say bad things about your team - no mattter who they are. And this is not to be a devils advocate either. I am one of those guys who grits his teeth at the media when they really start dumping on the Texans.
But it's not like we haven't made it easy for them to do that. Even now, amidst all the changes on this team, and all the optimistic wind that it has created, there is still a great deal of unknowns - new QB, new RB, new DL, new this, new that. It's not as though we've planted the seeds of glowing confidence for the critics this year. I don't expect much endorsement. No one should. Fear of the unknown is a powerful emotion. The critics see our upgrades - yes, but one critic hears one critic hears another critic. And doubt sets in, which becomes the line of thought, which then becomes the platform from which to launch an unholy smear campaign against us. *******s. So like the earlier post, reputations (and media careers for that matter) are based upon how well a critic prognosticates. So the herd mentality is kept close to the vest. There is a safety in numbers and my livelyhood is safe if he is wrong too.

No surprise here IMO. Until the Texans prove they're an above .500 team, the press will continue to bash them. It's time to put up or shut up guys...

I keep trying to tell these guys. We're on the wrong end of the media herd's pre-ordained story line. And we will be until we start kicking some @$$ on a regular basis. Like you said, only then will there be a new story line.
Bottom line: No one will give us credit until we earn it. And until we earn it on the field, I don't know why we should expect it.

I don't see this as being too unfair from SI.
Titans need recievers
Colts need corners
Jags need consistency
Texans need: #2 corner, #2 Reciever & to be more consistant
That's how I read it atleast. And all offseason mony posters wanted a corner or reciever drafted high.

The media bashing we are taking is good!
Other teams will be looking at us as an easy win and look past us even despite what their coaches are telling them. Even with a winning record early on, they will consider it a fluke and under prepare for us.
Our guys have to be going out with a chip on their shoulders and something to prove.
Spencer is really motivated by what the press is saying about him being finished. Mario must really feel like he has something to prove, and is healthy enough to do it.
Keep it up media, you are one of the best motivating factors on the team!!!

We did that improvement last year and just think that we have a better team and possibly an easier schedule, which means we could and should improve

I would hope the Texans post it and use it as motivation. Yeah.....let them bash.....it just makes me stronger on my resolve and the winning more sweeter. I hope every other team reads that stuff and is overconfident....I wouldn't be surprised if most teams are already licking their chops and putting a win down when they look at us on the schedule. except for the Jags......lol

The best thing about a new season is, the slate is wiped clean. No matter how Fox, Espn, SI or anyone try to predict anything and they do a bad job at it, new season simply means the superbowl belongs to anyone. They should try evaluating Texans beatdown over Colts who did have alot to play for in that game and we did not. The very same guys that didn't give Florida a chance in hell against Ohio State nor Texas against USC. I love when they are proved wrong which is alot lately. The best and I do mean the best gloat fest I had was this years draft when all of the so called braniacs was pigeon holing where Brady Quinn would land and they were left with their mouth wide open. Yea ESPN he went to Cleveland like you all predicted, only at freaking 22. GET REAL NATIONAL MEDIA, the makeup is seeping into your skulls.
LETS GO TEXANS

OH yea the national media also predicted New orleans to be a non factor, by week 12 they were slobbering all over the Saints like the 60's Packers. National Media stop watching ESPN highlight reels and actually watch a freaking football game

OK, who put moonshine in the kool-aid?
I'm just hoping for a winning season, and a few blow-out wins. That would be really nice, after what this franchise has put me through emotionally.
We can talk Superbowl after we finish a season with at least as many wins as losses for a change.

If you are referring to the article on SI.com from Bucky Brooks, you might want to read the article and not just the intro. It's a rather nice piece on the Texans and quite accurate in my opinion. If you need some "Feel Good", watch the video from Texans Huddle.

That would absolutely be a fair statement about the Texans. I really hope we have our second WR in Kevin Walter...I expect him to be a solid contributor. I also love the Fred Bennett pick...as a SoCar homer and a person who thought we could draft a corner later than day one and still come away with a nice performer.
I think that the Titans need more than Wide Recievers too....they've resorted to resigning Christina Brown and are relying on a guy with manboobs and another guy who couldn't beat out Mike Bell for a starting job at AZ.

1. The media is a business. 6-10 doesn't sell. The solid third round choices in 2006 (Winston and Spencer) for the OL while key to strategic growth of the Texans by building the lines and working out is not sexy journalism. For all the improvements that the Jets did last year, you don't hear that much babble about Ferguson and Mangold. Instead, Thomas Jones is stealing the headlines and the QB controversy.
2. If someone is going to state an opinion on Super Bowl or playoff contenders, then they typically go with the obvious. If someone called the Texans a playoff contender, that media member wouold immediately alienate fans of teams like PIttsburgh, Cincy, and Denver. Taking a risk in your predictions can only (a) alienate 2 or 3 more city's fans and (b)reduce your credibility as an analyst.
3. The media exists to make money. Tell the people what they want to hear. Unlike Houston, most of the nation has a pretty positive outlook on the likes of Reggie Bush. The media caters to the masses.
4. The Texans haven't had a meaningful impact on the NFL since their inaugural game (with the exception of providing fodder of debate topics from the 2006 draft).
5. Until the Texans put together some meaningful wins, don't expect the talent to get a fair shake.
6. The common theme on this board is that the media is doing a good job if they share the same opinion with you. WHY READ ANYTHING FROM THE MEDIA AT ALL THEN?
I find it interesting to get different takes on the team and evaluate their comments as agree or disagree. Take or leave their comments... just quit whining about BOO HOO HOO, NOBODY LIKES US!!! WAH!!!
Freaking wah-mbulance.

I'll agree that some of it is whining, but a lot of it is pride. I don't like to see my team bashed in the media, but I don't mind constructive criticism. There are more articles coming out, many that have been posted in other threads on this board, that are more optimistic and realistic about the team's potential.
IMO it's the articles that only spew the same tired old arguments that get annoying because they don't say anything positive about the team. Are we to believe that there's nothing going on woth while on the Texans?? Give me a break. There's a lot to be optimistic about and those writers need to stop writing with their blinders on.
It's natural to want to be able to demand respect, but until the Texans show the repect is deserved it'll be more of the same.
bring on training camp!
