I think it's a solid move. I also hope Frye clears waivers so he can go to the Practice Squad.

I like this move. It's not earth-shattering of course, but he's solid, and it's an area of need.

I like this move. It's not earth-shattering of course, but he's solid, and it's an area of need.
What it does is really add quality depth to our secondary and also a lot of flexibility. He can play safety and corner. So, this year, we have what we've never had- safeties with cover ability, both with Wilson and B.Harrison.
I'm very excited about the secondary. I think it will be a strength by midseason. Once Dunta returns and as Molden continues to gain experience and confidence, this secondary will be a very strong and deep one. Even with its struggle this preseason one thing I noticed is that almost every pass thrown downfield the coverage was tight. Certainly we didn't make the plays on the ball the could've been made, but there weren't receivers running free through our secondary-and that's something that has been the case the past 2 years.

Anything that can help our secondary is always a plus in my book. As long as they don't play like a certain CB this preseason.

Nice. I knew we'd find a CB somewhere before the season started.

In Kubs we trust...
I think the other guy thought that since he came from NE, it gave him a ticket for a free ride... But Kubs and Smith showed him how to fry an egg with bacon and not adding the toast... :D

This deal works for me. Picking up a CB with starting experience for a championship level team for nothing in exchange. Instantly becomes the 2nd best corner on the active roster. I see why we didn't trade for Foxworth now. I'm sure the financials in the deal won't hurt, so it's low risk-high reward. It feels great to have a GM who knows what he is doing.

I'm lost...
That being said, excellent move by Smith and Kubes. Now I understand why they didn't move on the Foxworth deal...

I should have worded it differently... I should have said that Smith and Kubs showed him how to fry an egg with bacon and what happens to you when you leave out the toast or bisquits... In other words, he didn't produce and tried to get through TC without giving it his all and got cut... That is all...:D

OH WOW!! It didn't even click how awesome that secondary is gonna be until just now! Donta, Fred B, E. Wilson, and Demps with Molden in in nickle situations.....that's a killer secondary. That will be an excellent antidote for the Peyton monster!

why did Tampa waive him?
New England isn't exactly stable in the secondary and they let him walk. Now TB releases him and they have P-Buc as one of their starters. I'm not sure why all the enthusiasm. He may have something left and be able to provide good depth and insurance or he may just be another vet on the downside - and we won't know that until we see him play.

Its been a while since i posted on here but my god this is the greatest news ive read on this board in a while!!! I was hoping when the bucs released wilson that the texans would scoop him up but never thought it would really happen.. This guy is a speedy ballhawk, can play s/cb, and most importantly, something that the texans needed desperately, he comes from a winning organization and knows what it takes 2 not only make the playoffs but also succeed in it. Cheers 2 the texans signing eugene wilson (one of the greatest moves of the season mark my words)

ALSO 4 THOSE OF U WONDERING WHY TAMPA RELEASED HIM.. IT IS BECAUSE PHILLIP HAS PLAYED LIGHTS OUT FOR THEM IN THE COVER 2 SCHEME FOR THE LAST 2 SEASONS AND THEY ALSO SELECTED AQIB TALIB IN THE FIRST ROUND BUT THE MAIN REASON WHY IS BECAUSE OF AN UNDRAFTED ROOK NAMED ELBERT MACK WHO APPARENTLY HAS PLAYED LIGHTS OUT FOOTBALL FOR THEM THROUGHOUT PRESEASON (ALREADY BEING COMPARED TO RONDE BARBER).

Sounds like the Bucs were keen on the new guy and wanted to save some $$$ by releasing Wilson. If this guy pans out we could be in good shape. Let's hope he comes in and shows our secondary how its done.

I'm not real familiar with NEs D and I'm too lazy to research it right now, but is ours at all similar? What I mean is how long do you figure before he is inserted?
Sometime early in the first quarter, Sunday, after Petey Reeves gets burnt.

Put him at CB then lets sign John Lynch! :D
not really, but this is a very nice signing.
Coach Kubiak just said after practice today that the team has been searching for a corner with experience playing inside in nickel, and Wilson fits that bill. We only had four corners on the roster (Bennett, Reeves, Molden, Faggins) and Kubiak has discussed playing Brandon Harrison at both safety and corner, so this adds some much needed-depth and experience.

was he a FA? or did we trade for him? is he injury prone?

He was cut by the Bucs and we scooped him up. Dont know how injury prone he is or isnt.

He was talking to Brooke and he said it very cocky and confidently that the one thing he knows how to do is cover. Really Faggins? Really? Do you not watch your highlights? Really? You couldnt cover a baby with a blanket off a king size bed dude.
Faggins is a very good cover corner with great ball instincts. He is able to make great moves on the ball when he is in position for it... in... position.. hmm... OH YEAH! He tends to get burned because he has horrible wheeles!
I remember reading earlier this preseason that someone said the perfect corner would be mashing Reeves and Faggins together. You wanta corner with Reeves speed and Faggins ball smarts so that they can cover and find the ball quickly.
I agree 100% that faggins has no reason to be cocky... but he has done one thing perfectly. He has managed to secure his spot on this team year after year.

I just have to say now Richard Smith has NO EXCUSE this season. We have a good defensive core now.

I wouldn't say NO excuse. This team still lacks the resources to get to the quarterback. Until we do teams will rotate their blocking schemes towards Mario and quick throw their way downfield. The only this stopping that would be inside pressure from our DL. I HOPE that we can get pressure on the passer this year otherwise we are looking at an average defense at best. MW & DRyans without DRob. Be perfectly honest here...who else? I like Molden's size and Bennett's tenacity but he's no shutdown corner, he stands out amoung the average players around him. No more bad vibe talk. What is good about this team though even though Dallas ate us up we still caused turnovers. In the past this team would have quit. You can see that this team will not quit and that says alot and will make us a tough team to beat because of our attitude. I see us losing a close game to the Steelers but come back and beat Baltimore the following week.

I would say we are a good/above average DE away from being a dominant defense. I'm talking flirting with the top 5 D in the league. (That is, assuming Dunta comes back & Molden comes into his own)

Do you guys think we'll use our 1st pick for a DE again?
With this staff, I wouldn't rule it out. Although I feel we should go after something else for a change depending on the available talent coming up in the draft. Depending on where we draft from, if a Taylor Mays or Beanie Wells falls to us, it is hard to not take one of those guys and get a DE instead.

It all depends on how our backfield performs this year I think. Either way I expect the Front Office to take a nice long look at DE prospects come draft time next year. Be it in the 1st or the 2nd. You never know with Smithiak & Co. though, and that's one thing I love about this organization. They know what needs to be done.
