I have been in the middle east for the last 18 months and haven't kept up. I was surprised upon my return to find out Carr was released(?). I know this is old news but could someone give me the low down? I understand that he is now with another team but wasn't traded.
I was born & raised in the Houston area, was an Oiler fan. I even remember what, for many years, was the longest game in pro football history: 6 quarters for the AFL championship between the Oilers and the Dallas Texans. I mention this because I am reasonably use to Houston professional football impotence over the last 30-40 years. This Carr thing, at face value, seems just another episode.

The basic timeline goes something like this:
1. Dom Capers was fired.
2. Gary Kubiak, a Houston native and supposed QB guru, was hired way from the Denver Broncos.
3. Carr was given a big extension. Everyone has high hopes that Carr will live up to his potential with Kubiak at the controls
4. With the first pick in the draft, instead of taking Houstonian QB Vince Young or "the next Gale Sayers" Reggie Bush, the Texans surprise everyone and take DE Mario Williams. All media now hates us from ruining their draft boards. Bush goes to the Saints and Young, in a huge surprise, goes to the Titans. (1, 2, 3)
5. Casserly resigns and Rick Smith from the Broncos is hired as our new GM.
6. Domanick Davis doesn't return to health and we're pretty much left without our best running back.
7. Carr starts the season kinda strong and ends up with his highest completion percentage ever. However, it's obvious from the playcalling that Kubiak doesn't trust Carr. Carr's poor play lose several games and Kubiak starts gameplanning to account for that poor play. The last half of the season, we go 4-4 even though we get some amazingly bad performances from Carr (including a -5 net passing yardage game against the Raiders, fumbles returned for TD's, and a 4 int game against he Pats.) We even beat the Colts for the first time in our existence.
8. After the season ends, the Texans pull a huge coup in grabbing the biggest name running back (Ahman Green) and trading for the best QB prospect available (Matt Schaub, who was a backup for Vick in Atlanta). At the press conference announcing the Schaub deal, Rick Smith says that he's looking for the best possible trade for Carr but Carr goes to McNair and asks to be released. So we release him and get nothing for him although with his big extension, he was going to be hard to trade.
9. Carr goes to the Carolina Panthers to back up Jake Delhomme.
I think that about covers it.

****. I forgot to mention Demeco Ryans (DROY), Owen Daniels, and Andre Johnson having over 100 catches and going to the pro bowl.
Ah, well.
