View Full Version : Question about our ZBS

There is no exuse for the bad coaching, play calling, poor QB play, poor WR play, etc. on Sunday.
I'm curious though, is there a learning curve for the offense to learn the ZBS or is it something they should be geling 100% on as a unit at this point?
Like i said, no excuses for this @ss-whoopin on Sunday but the offense just didn't look in sync to me. Makes me wonder if they are 100% comfortable w/the ZBS by now. I kind of hope thats the case so by week 5/6 we'll be running over fools.

The starting running back ran for over 100 yards. That has to count for something. The ZBS isn't running on all cylinders yet, which means we could be in for something special when they finally get it going.

hmmmm, seems to me our fine young running back ran for over 100 yds... that would mean things are WORKING. and if i REMEMBER right .....we are still BUILDING THE HOUSTON TEXANS FOOTBALL TEAM. If KUBIAK trusts MATT....over SAGE...it would seem to be PERSONAL....since SAGE has the better record. i know it hurts to watch them lose week after week.....cause i wanna throw my TV threw the frikkin window.....but in the long haul....we all learn from every game.....and in the end, when the smoke clears....hehe.... we will have THEIR # and be beating them down just like the bastages have done us. IF YA SMELL WHAT I,M COOKIN:D

Agreed. I take nothing away from Steve Slaton but remember about 75 of his 116 yds were from 2 runs.

...and...
What else do you want? Those are the explosive plays we've been looking for out of a running back since D.D. left. Let this line gel a bit more and learn the ZBS and those 2 plays will turn into 4 plays, etc...

to think our running game is fine, is a misconception Two big runs (THAT HE MADE ON HIS OWN) I DID"NT ANY HOLES HE RAN THROUGH. after that he may have averaged 2-3 yards a carry. don"t get me wrong , i like the kid but the zone blocking does"nt seem to be fixed just yet.

I was saying the same thing. I've followed Slaton since his junior year and hoped he entered the draft after his junior year. He had an off senior year and that's why he fell into Texans lap. I liked what he offers to the Texans yesterday, but to just think he's the answer is kind of setting yourselves up for disappointment once defenses figure him out. That 50 yard run was the result of Tony Brown landing on his shoulder awkward. he had him in his clutches, but the awkward landing made it too difficult to hold on to Slaton. Scratch that run and Slaton was 17 for 66 yards. Take away the 20+ yarder....well you get the picture.
I think Slaton can work wonders for your offense. I'm curious to see what he does this Sunday.

The ZBS has it's kinks right now but it did show some flashes that they knew what they were doing out there. But I agree, give it some time to gel and 100 yd games by Slaton will be very common.

Yea once a defender gets a good hold of him he goes down. What I like about him, though, is his quickness and elusiveness. If he gets some good blocks, he will find a way to break loose. Hopefully another back will step up to the plate and produce. This will help keep Slaton a healthy threat.

How many yards would he have gained if we did not abandon the run in the second half? The run game was fine, we just stopped running to try for long gain passing plays.
It does not matter if he broke two based on his own abilities, his abilities will always be a part of him running that ball and he should be able to continue breaking tackles to make those explosive plays.

Some of you must not watch alot of football. You can say the take away this and take away that run for every back in the league. Even Adrian Peterson has his share of 2 or 3 yard runs, its the explosive plays that make you a threat. I know you probably didn't notice but the titans did go to 8 and 9 man fronts in the second half to stop the run. At that point it up to the passing game to make things happen.

Why do people keep saying this? He had two amazing runs and they were for the texans. He is our back. Is there some other outcome that we should be seeing on the field other than explosive runs that would prove that our running game is working?
The ZBS scheme is built around the back being able to break an explosive run at any time... this is exactly what happened.

You are correct. Denver does not gain 5 yards a carry, but they break longer ones frequently. Tennessee was, I believe, leading the league in rushing defense before they played the Texans, holding teams to 60 yards a game. Our running game was the bright spot Sunday.

I'm just curious, do you guys think you'll be able to run well with the Jags on Sunday?

That 50 yarder was more of a blown tackle that the zone blocking scheme. Not saying Slaton can't break tackles either. I think that's what people are saying. To say this guy IS gonna be the man may be premature. I'm not saying at all that he won't be consistent, just don't base it on one game and a couple of big gains

Come on, let us have this one Vincesanity. What other run threat do we have at the moment? Let us at least have Slaton to be excited about.
