Let’s take a different slant on the team. Sure its about execution week in and week out but a team still has to have talent and after 7 yrs I still don’t see a roster that makes me say wow.
I’m a Texans fan until I die and this isn’t meant to be a bash the team thread, I’m just looking at it from another view.

Question is, how many of our starters could start for other top tier times that are in contention almost every year?? Teams like Indy, Dallas, Tampa, San Diego, Philly, New England, Tenn, Car., Den., etc, etc. etc….
You get the picture.

Here is my evaluation. I realize this isn't scientific since depth and play calling/coaching, and decision making are all part of a winning team. Just looking at it from a talent percpective as i feel that is as every bit important.

QB Rosenfels- No
QB Schaub- Jury still out but as of now, No
RB Slaton- Rookie, too early to tell
RB Green- No, injury issues, other playoff caliber teams would have cut the cord a long time ago
FB Leach- Maybe
WR Johnson- YES
WR Walter - Maybe as a slot
WR Davis- No
T Brown- Rookie, too early to tell
T Winston- YES but I’m not 100% sure
G Pitts- No
G Brisel- No
C Meyers- No
TE Daniels- Maybe but I don’t see him as another Whitten or Gates quite yet

DE Weaver/Kalu- No
DE Williams- YES
T Johnson- No
T Okoye- No
Wil Greenwood- No
Sam Diles- No
Mike Ryans- YES
CB Reeves- No
CB Robinson- YES(assuming he plays like he did last year so its not 100%)
CB Bennett- No (not yet anyway)
SS Brown- No
FS Demps- No

P Turk- No
K Brown- YES

So there, that’s 5 with a YES, 4 being definte. A few are borderline and we have a few promising rookies/2nd year dudes.

I still like our chances this year b/c I think our coaches will improve the play calling and just overall coaching week to week but we still have a long way to go until we have a contender here in Houston year after year.

Go ahead and piss all over it now. :D

Why is it other teams seem to be able to develop seventh round picks into contributing factors, and this team can't win with constant high first round picks?

Maybe the lack of talent and motivation lies elsewhere and is not wearing pads and a helmet.

Just wondering...

I see Winston, Johnson, Williams, Ryans, and K. Brown as the only guys who would start on other teams. There are other guys who could play, but not as starters.

Okoye would be a good player in the DT rotation for just about any other team.

Turk could punt for other teams.

Andre Davis could return kicks and fill out the WR position. Walter could play too. I think Owen Daniels would help other teams too.

Slaton would be the change of pace back for most teams. He should probably play that role here, but he has to start!

There are other back up possibilites, but 5 guys who would start for other teams seems low to me. If Robinson was healthy, he would make that list. That's only 6 guys...

This may be off topic, but it has to do with title of the thread.

Have you seen the Texans run any slant patterns with AJ or KW? That was bread and butter last year.

Just a thought: There are guys that the Texans cut that went on to start for other teams. Robaire Smith and Jabar Gaffney are a couple, but there are others, like McKinney and Billy Miller. I think this thread ranks our players lower than they deserve.

My point exactly...

...maybe its the coaching more than it is the players.

Just sayin'...

7th round guys are better able to contribute when they have solid guys around them. Its a catch 22, you cant have a team full of first rounders (couldnt pay them all) so you have to find guys in later rounds, but more often than not they shine when the guys around them are good too.

It all comes down to overall depth of talent. we have to have strong starters for atleast 8 of the 11 starters on the field to be competitive. It just takes Good scouting, the fall of the picks, and **** good luck to get all of the guys we need to succeed. We have a staff that can scout out talent (atleast rookie talent, FA might be another story), so it will just take time to get guys through the draft. Fortunately or unfortunately if we finish in the bottom half of the league we will have better draft position to get those guys we need. And as far as luck goes, sometimes it just comes down to freak chance, but other times you have to make you own luck by shear force of will and determination. We cant count on the cards falling just the way we need them to. If it happens then great, but we have to go about our business like the world is out to get us and its us or them-because it is.

0-2 isnt the end of the season, but it can be if our guys dont realize they have to show some dignity and balls, and go out and pop 'em in da mouf!

Daniels NOT a starter on other teams?? He's got pro-bowl stats despite Carr / Schaub. Get him a decent QB and he's got a ticket to Hawaii every Feberuary for years to come.
