He said he liked the trade of Matt Schaub, but he is not too sure about what he will do for the Texans. He was kiind of shocked to see we gave him such a huge contract without even knowning if he can get it done. He gave out the rankings for how the AFC south will do this season.

1. colts
2. Jaguars
3. Tennessee
4. Texans

Even though he said the Texans have improved he doesn't know how Schaub will be like during the season. i still say Titans should be in the fourth spot and Texans should be at least third spot. Just because of the fact they don't have any good wide receivers and pacman jones is gone.

I"m sorry but theres no way the titans should be ranked above us. They had one of the worst offseasons and the texans had one of the best! I can't wait till the season starts and we can start shutting people up.

you know, i would figure mora sr. would be higher on schaub seeing as his boy was pretty high on schaub.

To his credit, Mora, Sr. did say that the Texans are "making moves in the right direction" but also said we ought to be farther along in our progress than we are. I won't argue that. I think so too.
They spent more time talking about how much we spent on Schaub than on what he'd seen out of Schaub when he was still in ATL. I fault the host dude. Just as Mora was about to give his opinion on Schaub's abilities ("I like Schaub..."), the host guy sidetracked Mora by mentioning his big contract. Then they went down that tangent instead of breaking down the pluses and minuses of the team.

Our progress isnt the current staff's fault. Since Kubiak and his guys have been here, we have made good progress at most everything.

Yes, but I think they were referring to our progress from 2002 until now, which was seriously hampered by that whole 2-14 thing and Carr digressing for the last 2.5 seasons, not to mention a bunch of other crap.

6yrs $48million...is that all people see? dont people realize that only $7million is guaranteed...if for some crazy reason it doesnt work out and we have to get rid of Schaub we would take less of a salary cap hit cutting Schaub than we did cutting Carr...Schaubs contract is loaded with incentive pay and future year roster bonuses...i hate when national media outlets dont do any type of research...

I sometimes wonder about how much respect NFL Network gives us. In the background behind the crew are the teams of the NFL.Well i would assume that underneath the Cowboys sign would be the Texans sign, but their is some sign I don't recognize. We need to start winning and showing these "analysts" a thing or two about us..

6yrs $48million...is that all people see? dont people realize that only $9million is guaranteed......
Only $7 million is guaranteed (and it's already been paid).
His contract is 3 yrs 20 million if they don't exercise the option for 2010-12.
And yes, the big numbers are all people see. The agents make sure of that. The 6/48 is the potential contract value, but full contract value is often not realized in the NFL.
If Schuab plays well, then good for us and he will have earned the option and the remaining 28 mill for '10-'12. If he doesn't, he's cut after '09 with only $2.25 counting as dead money - which is not a big deal in terms of cap accounting..

Good idea Superstar... you do that. I'm sure they will listen to you. Meanwhile I'll wait for our win record too improve, as howling in the wind will only help with your lungs.

Get use to the abuse. Most in the press are not going to take the time to judge the intangibles. I doubt any one of those that are slamming Mario have even walked on the type of injury he had last year, much less played pro sports on it. I doubt they realize that Schaub brings leadership skills to Houston that Carr never exhibited. I doubt they are familiar with "wise beyond his years" when it comes to Amobi. I doubt they are looking at the O-Line as a unit that was starting to gel late last year instead of a bunch of individuals.
We are just going to have to wait till week 10 or so to be hearing the phrase, "And how about those surprising Texans?".

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over what a talking head says. At the end of the day, they don't play the game. Most 'experts' tend to be frontrunners, which makes them look that much 'smarter'. Rare is the guy that picks a bad team at the beginning of a season that ends up with a winning record.

Once we start putting up more wins than losses, the so-called "media respect" will follow. They tend to have a herd mentality in that regard.

And especially for a starting QB. The hits we took with other players pale in comparison.

Man you sound like my ex girlfriends crying about a lack of attention...

We have to earn that title.

Last year we were supposed to be better than the titans too and look how that turned out. We gave VY the highlight reel moment of his career and the titans went to 8-8

PLUS they dont have the time to follow our team 24/7 like we do so they are not going to know all the details. NFL network has to do work and research on the activities of 32 teams.. Cant know every detail and if Schaub doesnt pan out (knocking on wood like a mofo) then we may be fighting the titans for that cellar spot.

We have done all the right things we just gotta play like we have the potential to on sunday.

...exactly, and just think--we haven't changed the OL blocking scheme since Capers left!

....and Jim Mora has won exactly what?? The only reason we are projected at the bottom of the standings for the AFC South is because that's exactly what we are until our record stands otherwise. Just as the Colts are still the defending champs until someone else's record shows otherwise.

Why would anyone expect the Texans to be further along? If they say not posting a winning record in there first 5yrs of existance is an example of unordinary futulity; what would they have to say about Tampa Bays 10+ yrs?Or LONG TERM futulity from teams like the Lions/Patriots/Saints/Seahawks. The expectation of an expansion franchise to become a playoff contender in its first 5yrs is a bit high considering the leagues history. Hell Dallas has won as many playoff games as us in the last 5yrs.

We may have had a better offseason (i.e. on paper) but the Titans had a better regular season last year and swept us. Interesting how people always cite the Titans recent personnel losses but coveniently overlook Vince Young entering his second year.

No team, including the Texans or Titans, is finished building its roster yet. A lot remains to be seen.

I think given the long history with Bud Adams, Houston folks know what to expect out of Bud. A good/mediocre season followed by a poor season with a gutted roster. I know VY walks on water and everything, but in the NFL even he can't do it by himself.

I just wouldn't count him out. I find it interesting how everyone gives Schaub the benefit of the doubt (although he hasn't done anything yet), and few people give Vince any possibility of doing well this year, although he was pretty good last year.

We will see soon enough. I hope you are right.

I'm not discounting his athletic abilities. I'm really not. He is a phenominal athlete. But, this is the NFL. Mike Vick has not been able to do it with just his legs, and I don't think Vince will be able to either. They got rid of all of his offensive weapons this past offseason. Here is a good testimony on the state of the Hillbilly Gang....

They signed Eric Moulds yesterday. The guy could not get it done here on the attrocious Texans last year. He won't be any different there. However, they are so desperate for anyone who can run a route, they signed him.
