Who is the defensive first-rounder you would be most excited to see in a Texan's uniform?
Mike LB Mauelauga, or Lauranitis.

Selvie. Getting a pass-rusher who could get to the QB with Mario would be huge for this defense. If not him then one of the LB's from USC... a good linebacker to go along with Ryans would be big for this defense too, but I think Selvie would make me the most excited.

I like William Moore, he reminds me of Ed Reed but bigger. I really like that he makes plays on the ball. 8 Ints last year. Thats a ton for a safety, plus he is 225lb and lays the hat like Bob Sanders, I think this guy is going to be special.

I would love a pass rusher but I don't know that we could do that. We already he 3 1st Rd picks on the DL. Adding a 4th would put too much money in one area. I think we need to go LB or CB. Which would depend on what you expect from Dunta if/when he comes back from injury...
Dunta doesn't come back - Have to go CB.
Dunta comes back at FS - Have to go CB.
Dunta comes back as CB - Could/Should go with CB but FO won't due to $$$ given to Reeves. Go with LB.

I'd prefer to move down picking up a 2nd and take DE Greg Hardy. However, if we were to take a DE like Michael Johnson, we'd definately have to move Mario to LDE and have Johnson as RDE. Imagine that sick D!!!
I do realize that Michael Johnson is extra raw and needs lots of refinement but him and Mays both do but are the super sexy(football wise) picks that I'd like. Extra kudos if we got both...
EDIT: Getting Michael Johnson and Mays is impossible yes, but I think Mays and Hardy will do us some good with Davis in the second and a linebacker in the 4th.

Defense Defense Defense. I wouldn't be surprised if the first four rounds were all defensive players

that would be a dream. S, DE, 2 LB's, or CB (not necessarily in that order)

Whoever is a pass rush nightmare. Period. Screw a corner or a safety. Bring the pressure and bust that quarterbacks pipes.

Is Brian Orakpo for Texas a Senior or Junior?
He's got 6 sacks already and looks like a beast already.

6 sacks against bad teams and a university that has recently produced a great deal of high round picks that bust.

Not so much in recent history.
Scaife is a decent option
the Griffin brothers are playing well
Selvin Young is a decent player
I could go on, but will instead just say that Orakpo is a big dude and has a nice motor and plays hard every time out. I don't know about spending a first rounder on him, but I've seen worse players out there.

Taylor Mays...

If we keep losing the way we have been then our 1st round pick will be a pretty high one. I'd like us to take Malcolm Jenkins or Vontae Davis in the 1st round and then either Myron Rolle, William Moore, or Taylor Mays in the 2nd round. Safeties usually don't go real high in the draft and hopefully other teams will be taking QB's, RB's, DE's, OT"s, WR's, LB's so the likelyhood of getting one of these guys in the 2nd round is pretty good. Our secondary is the worst part of our team and if Dunta can make a come back and then pick up the gusy I listed we could solve our secondary issues in one year. 3rd round pick up the best offensive guard/center available cause the O-line needs help as well.

I wouldn't be too surprised to see us go linebacker if Jenkins is off the board. Greenwood is getting older, and from what I've seen Diles isn't a long term solution on the strong side (he seems to be outclassed from an athletic standpoint). Rey Malauga reminds me of Shawne Merriman with how physical he is and how he likes to throw his body around and really hurt people. He's sometimes out of position in an effort to make the big play, but with some NFL coaching I think he'd be an outstanding player. James Laurinaitis and Brian Cushing are more consistent in filling their assignments, and I think all three would be an immediate upgrade over Diles on the strong side.

First of all secondary isn't the weakiest link to our team. When dunta comes back you have a solid one two punch with him and bennett. Then you add molden and reeves as 3rd and 4th CB and you have a very good CB group. Our D-line right now is playing like garbage with only mario putting pressure on people. None of our other linebackers should be starting on a team other then Ryans. All elite teams have atleast two stud linebackers.
I agree that safety is a big need but they usually go pretty high and you can find much better value at LB in the second round.
1st- DE
2nd- LB
3rd- RB

You are assuming Dunta is going to be his old self. that is a very large assumption to make.
It looks like we may have a high draft pick @ this point. We are 0-3
Facts are our whole defense is playing like garbage & our DC stinks.
How many more 30 point games will long suffering- paying customers have to endure before Dick Smith is let go.

It may be an assumption but it still doesn't make sense to build your defense from the back to the front line when your d-line and linebackers stink. Great teams build from the front to the back.

Do us all a favor buddy, please! And save that hopeless talk for Week 17. Right now, the only thing that we need to be focused on, is what we need to do to beat this Indy Cults team this Sunday. Don't take what Im saying as disrespect, but its a long season and alot can happen.

If it bothers you so much stay off these topics! Some people enjoy talking about prospect and needs that the texans have. And yes things change but If you think the texans are magicaly going to find a impact DE on their roster or a stud safety then your dillusional.

You must have missed the part where I said "Do Not Take It As Disrespectful."
And my comment was not directed at you sir. I would appreciate if we could keep this conversation civil. I don't look to cause trouble throughout the boards. Again, that is not my intentions.

And please don't make assumptions for me. But, your really shouldn't jump the gun and throw away the season after just three games. Its been highly publicized that the initial part of our schedule would indeed be the hardest. Hopefully in the coming weeks, you can see some results that may make you more optimistic about the team's chances.

I don't understand why you come to the nfl draft section and want us to talk about this weeks game against the colts. If thats what your interested in then go to the other forum. I'm not trying to be disrepectful to you but some people enjoy talking about the draft and prospect as much as the regular season.

I don't think the season is over at all and I'm expecting great things from my texans this year.

I certainly hope so too. It has been a rocky start, but last week's game gives us a real reason to be optimistic. I just hope that we can carry over alot of the the things that we did correctly from last week, to this one. Im about to head off to get something to eat before the VP debate in twenty minutes. You have a good evening Wolf. And keep repping our Texans. Representing to the fullest.

Just my input, but I personally love the draft. Its like a superbowl party in April. In my mind, our teams regular season and the college draft prospects our both equally important, and worth thinking about at the same time.
I believe someone said we need to focus on the Indy game, well I'm just a fan and though I still feel I'm part of the team, I'm not getting paid to go out there and fight. My job is to root them on for free which means I can think about / talk about improvements whenever and wherever I want. (No offense or arguing... I'm just saying.)
And yeah I agree with the previos poster. We need a good linebacking core and I just don't nor have I ever had faith in Diles as a starter. I do like Adibi's potential on the weakside though and like I stated in the other topic, I would like to have a true strongside linebacker like Orakpo that can move.
