Owen Daniels hasnt been talked about enough this offseason, considering that he is quite possibly the second biggest impact player on our offense.

Im really looking forward to seeing Schaub to Daniels. Here is hoping that the curse of the sophomore slump passes him by, and Daniels is a household name by December of this year.

You know I was thinking about this exactly. Everyone's worried about our no.2 receiver, rightfully so, but I don't think everyone realizes the impact Owen Daniels and Jeb Putzier can have on our offense. If Owen Daniels improves on his numbers from last year I think that should take some pressure off of Kevin Walter. And I think Matt Schaub will do a better job of finding the secondary targets better than DC ever did. But I agree that Owen Daniels' performance will have a big impact on our offense either way.

If Daniels could haul in 34 passes for 352 yards (10.4 YPC) and 5 TDs with Carr at QB, just think of what he can do with Schaub back there. Plus, you figure that Schaub got used to throwing to the TE in Atlanta, considering that all of their receivers had hands of stone and Crumpler was their only reliable receiving threat (I know Schaub probably practiced with the second stringers, but he probably threw to the TE a lot as well).

I think Daniels is great and has a great future, but it could be a good thing no one is talking about him because he won't get any hype or attention, and then he may get a little less focused on while playing and could possibly pull in a few huge gamebreaking catches this year.

Daniels is going to really take the pressure off of andre and kevin. Are offense was working the best last year when we were getting him the ball.

Kubes said on 610 that he regrets not getting both our TEs involved last year. Kubes talked about the potentinal of Daniels streching the field and having Putz doing the middle crossing routes. Should be an exciting offense next year.

i think the exciting thing is watching kubiak evolve as a head coach...he's mentioned before about wishing he would have used walter more often...you add the comment above about using both TE's more and you can see how his offensive mind works...i look for kubiak to get more offensive weapons involved in the game plan this next year...who knows...the could be a sleeping giant of an offense that is about to wake up
as for daniels yes he could be a major impact for this team...i think he was grossly underrated coming out of college and he could end up being a real gem for us for the next few years

Also remember that Kubes had to condense the playbook last year with DC. I think that made us to predictable to other teams. With a full playbook this year I look for a very solid and diverse offense. We should all remember what Aj said, that DC could not read Defenses. This is said to be one of Schaubs best abilities. With that being said I expect to see all RB's ,WR's and TE's making BIG plays this year.

we will have to wait and see. I think our offense has potential, but I think it will evolve as the season goes on. there could be some struggling early on. Schaub is basicly a rookie backup, 2nd year backup at the best. I think he will do well, but I think it will take about half a season to get the kinks out. If we get the defense going early it might night matter so much, but if not we could be looking at 7-9 season. If the runing game and defense are strong enough, it could produce a few more wins pushing us into the winning season realm. I am cautiously optimistic. have to wait and see.
I know this is a thread about Daniels but I think how Schaub goes, so goes the recieving corps. we are dealing with an unknown quantity thus far.

Owens missed some playing time at the end of the season due to a shoulder injury........something that no one is actually talking about. He did not evidently require off season surgery. However, Kubes is limiting him in OTA's. Hopefully this is for caution's sake only..........but this is quite a long time to be coddling a shoulder injury. Hope there is nothing going on that the Texans are not revealing.

So now we are discounting his backup years even? Dude has been a backup for three years. How is he getting demoted on even that experience?

Cloak, I'm still looking for the article that quoted Kubiak saying that he did in fact have shoulder surgery in the off-season. Can anyone else help me out here? I thought kubiak said it at the golf course. Jeez, maybe I'm just losing my mind. I'll keep looking because I'm kind of curious as to the nature of the injury.

I disagree that Owen Daniels was "grossly underrated" he was rated a 5th round draft pick. He only started a total of 10 games in his College career & had a history of knee injurys which question his durability. the reason the Texans reached for him in the 4th was he fit their run-oriented offense & one of the Texans biggest needs was to draft another TE.

I thought that Kubes said that Owen DID get off-season shoulder surgery?

I think Kubiak mentioned it in one of the videos on the site.

Wouldn't it be like catching the wangthang in the zipper of your fly if we wound up with another promissing TE with injury issues. I swear, this team just can't seem to buy a break at times.

Well, we waited on Bennie for a few years and he finally comes in healthy last year and contributes and does a bang up job and we cut him. I guess it's all in how you look at it.

I think the fact he saw the field is a plus he is definitely a playmaker when he is out there. We can't label him injury prone after 1 season.

I feel that Owens can be a major player in this year's offense. And he can't be labelled "injury prone" based on his short NFL experience. However, are you aware that in his collegiate career, he suffered from recurrent ankle problems, and underwent 2 ACL repairs on his left knee? Hopefully, injuries will not be a continued limitation to a very promising piece of the puzzle.

I hope it is nothing serious. Owen Daniels is a good guy. He was good last year...with DAVID CARR! I can't wait for the season to start.

I actually ran into Daniels yesterday and he didn't seem to nursing any kind of injury. Of course, there's a difference in looking injured and being football healthy, but he didn't say anything about any injuries.

He might be considered a "pass-catching" tight end, and be thought of as a hinderance in the blocking scheme, but he hangs out with the linemen and he's bulked up a bit. Good guy. I was upset when we took him, but I was stone wrong on that one.
