View Full Version : Bud Adams Keeps Trying

I got a peek at this year's Titans season ticket images, and guess whose picture appears on the Texans game to be held in Nashville??

You guessed it VY. It's classic Bud Adams trying to tweak the town he left behind. I can understand Vince being pissed about being passed over by his hometown and wanting to give a little something extra each time they play, but Bud is just doing most of this stuff out of spite.

Go Texans

Who else are they going to put on thier season tickets? VY and Pacman are the only stars they have on that team.. and the only pictures of Pacman are mugshots.

Not sure it's fair to say they didn't get fan support, but it was in spite of Bud Adams I think. I remember one year, the Oilers were coming back from a playoff loss to Pittsburg. Key word... loss. There were road jams all the way from the airport to the A-Dome, and as for the dome itself, there were some very emotional moments. I think Bud decided to dump Bum because of the fact Houston just couldn't get past Pittsburg in the Bradshaw days and wanted to try a change, but I remember some bad feelings over how it was done. In short, we loved the Oilers, it was just Bud's attitude we weren't too fond of.
Kind of too bad the Cowgirls don't play the Titans this year. I guess we won't see "Son of Bum, bums out Bud."

well that was when bum was still with them, bud adams fired bum because he was to close to his players, and had bum stayed the following year,i do believe the oilers would have gone to the super bowl..look how much the support for the oilers dropped when bum left..

Ya never know Curly ... maybe one day soon we'll see the new GM of the titans being none other than Dale "I know more than you" Yasman. That canadian ***** would fit pretty good up there in Possum Holler.

uh... The Titans have sold out EVERY game they've played since 1999.

To be honest I didn't recognize a dang one of the other players on the other tickets. They might have even had Jeff Fisher on one of the tickets. I can't recall.

What I was alluding to was the concept that most folks put their franchise player (the face of their franchise) on their biggest (marquee) game. The Titans have their home opener against the Colts as defending Superbowl Champs. They've got Atlanta, San Diego, & the Jets on the schedule as well. The Texans/Titans game is a big division game, but I wouldn't consider it to be the best game on the schedule.

I just find it odd that the Titans appear to have more than one backward glance at the place they left behind and maybe Bud still has the negotiations with Houston stuck in his craw.

Go Texans

I think he means that Bud Adams is pissed that the Oilers didn't receive the same fan support while in Houston that the Texans are getting. I don't think he's referring to the Titans currently.

I don't think VY on the tickets had a thing to do with Houston. They have NO other stars except Pac-Man.

I hear they were gonna put Lendale White on the tickets, but he wouldn't fit! Hahaha

All of you who keep referring to the Oilers lack of support either dont rememeber or are using revisionist history; the Oilers had tons of fan support, and not just during the love ya blue days. The House of Pain days at the dome were un freakin believable! The floor of that building would shake and you could not talk to the person next to you. There were slow times like during the Oil bust of the 80's but Oilers fans always supported their team. Pep Rallies after losses to the Steelers, fans at the airport after the melt down in Buffalo, support after the failed Howfield experiment. I know I had season tickets with the fmaily from 74' up until they left. The reason Bud yanked is team had noting to do with the fans it had to do with a pissing contest between he and Mayor Bob over the new stadium in which Bud proved if its your team you hold all of the cards and can do what you want! Its why I will never forgive Bud, he yanked our hearts out just to prove to the Mayor and the world he would not be told no!

Bud Adams is a terrible man. Anyone who knows how bad he screwed over Houston wouldn't support this guy's team. Until he gives Houston back all the Oiler records, I can't respect the guy. The icing on the cake is when he honored Warren Moon for his hall of fame in Nashville. Warren Moon never played a down for the Titans. What a class act.

Yeah, but his team is FAR less valuable in Tennessee than it would be in Houston. McNair has a state-of-the-art stadium in a major city with lots of large corporations who can afford to lease luxury boxes.

Old Bud doesn't have that.

In fact, according to Forbes magazine, the Texans are the 3rd most valuable franchise in the NFL, behind only the Redskins and the Cowboys. The Titans are in the middle of the pack.

'eh, I wouldn't worry too much about who's face is on what ticket. It's just marketing at the end of the day. All that really matters is what happens on the field.

Team records go with the franchise not the city. The only exception to that was a special deal given to the Cleveland Browns. Art Modell didn't get to officially keep any of the Browns' NFL championships or Jim Brown's records or any of that sort stuff. They stayed with Cleveland. But that's the only case.

So since Moon's checks (as were all Oilers & Titans) were signed by Bud Adams franchise, he gets recognized by and associated with Bud's franchise. So did Munchak and Matthews when they went into the Hall. Bud was just following NFL policy. As such, all Oiler-related accomplishments are now in Nashville filed under "Titans".

But its not just us...

The Ravens play in Baltimore but they don't get to carry any of the Colts' records. Unitas' and Ray Berry's records are now in Indy.

Eric Dickerson's rushing records with the Rams were accomplished in L.A. but now they reside in St. Louis. So Stephen Jackson would have to break Eric Dickerson's L.A. records to be considered the Rams' team leader.

Any team records the St. Louis Cardinals had (and before that the Chicago Cardinals) will be broken by guys that play in Arizona; i.e., Matt Leinart will be breaking Neil Lomax's and Jim Hart's passing records which were set in St. Louis.

All that to say, team records, championships, and Hall of Fame players don't "belong" to the city, they "belong" to the guy/group/business that owns the franchise.

Great point! Who else do they have besides Albert Haynesworth? I know this is going to upset people in here, but the Texans still aren't good enough to beat the Titans...

Your words have been marked. :D

Just remember that the last game in OT could've gone either way. Such is the nature of a tie game at the end of regulation.

I think we'll split with the Titans this year.

Thanks for the explanation, but it's still cr@p. I remember Bud saying that the Oilers were dead and he would never give the city it's records. Like the Browns, he should have kept them in Houston. The city only supported him for 30 years but hey, that's my opinion. However, the way the tacks are run he might have done us a favor by leaving. They just won't spend to keep talent.

Really?? So you're telling me that even after they lost their #1 WR/RB/CB, they'll still a better team than the Texans? They had a terrible offseason and barely beat the Texans last year on David's worst performence ever. You're making a bold statement! Well, you have been marked.

They just won't spend to keep talent.

They kept together the core of their team as long as they could, Reese put them in cap hell and they finally came out of it.

My guess is that they just don't see anyone worth overpaying for ?

either way, we'll probably split with them this year anyways.
