Hey guys! Just wanted to drop by during this week before our game on Sunday. :D
Tough loss last week. I dont even consider it a loss though when looking at your team... in my mind, you won. A couple of QB slides and you win that game. The actual outcome is irrelevant to me when looking at you as an opponent last week. But I know its not that easy for you guys being fans of the team.
But... moving on from that game...
What do you guys think about this upcoming game? While Andre Johnson and Steve Slaton are studs (I got Slaton on my fantasy team! :D)... I think Owen Daniels is going to be the killer against us. Matt Roth, recently converted to SOLB from DE, looks great so far against the run or rushing the passer... but he still needs work in coverage. If he is covering Daniels for an extensive portion of the game... expect him to have a big day.
I am really worried about this game for my Fins. The Texans have owned us in the past... and this is the typical "letdown game"/"trap game". After 2 big wins over the Pats and Chargers, we now go on the road against a "winless" team (like I said, I dont view you guys as a winless team).
I just hope we come out swinging out of the gate like we have the past 2 games.
What are your thoughts on the up coming game?
Heres to an injury free game!!! And good luck for the rest of the season!!! (After this weekend, of course... ;))

I for one cannot believe how quickly you guys have turned your team around. The Fins are showing life out there on the field, and I'm not going to lie, that has me worried for our game this weekend. I know my team has the capabilities to blow most teams out of the water, but for some reason, they haven't figured out how to finish a game.
I am hoping you guys are the beginning of a long win streak for us, but I don't have as much confidence as I used to.
Here's to an injury free game. Goodluck.

I agree, very impressive work that the Fins FO has done to get thsi team ready. Imagine if Jason Taylor and Thomas were still there!
I second the no injury outcome!
For me I am concerned about the "wildcat" O. We have been doing well stopping some of the best run games in the league, but I am still concerned about it being a different look for us to pick-up on.
How is the Fin secondary, because in my opinion that is still the biggest threat the Texans have to offer. If we can continue the Green and Slaton combo we should be looking pretty good on the run game.
Thanks for the nice post, I enjoy chatting with opposing fans!

LOL @ the Wildcat...
That offense is so funny/entertaining to watch. We will keep running that formation and all its options until someone stops it. If its working, I will tell you right now that you will hate everything about it. Chargers/Pats fans HATE it, lol. Its just frustrating when you sitting on your couch know what the other team is going to do... and the defense cant stop it.
And when we are running it, we really arent trying to get big plays out of it. We are mainly just trying to gain 4 yards a pop... or punch it in near the goalline/1st down marker.
There is another factor that is over looked about the Wildcat besides Ronnie being at QB and Chad at WR. We run it with an unbalanced line... as in:
TE - OL - C - OL - OL - OL
And we line it up with:
Fasano(TE) - Smiley(LG) - Satele(C) - Ndukwe(RG) - Vernon Carey(RT) - Jake Long(LT)
Vernon Carey is an absolute beast in the run game... and you all know how much of a road grater Jake is. Thats the hole Ronnie runs in between those 2... and those 2 usually make that hole about 5 feet wide. And on top of that, we pull LG Smiley and our FB through that hole, to clear out the 2nd level.
Its a LOT of beef moving people at that gap. And if you over commit to that gap... Ronnie bounces it to another one.
And once a game, we will attempt a pass out of it... just to keep the safeties a little honest. Last week we had a play where Ricky takes that end around... and then throws it. Ricky ended up pulling it down and running instead... but just having that threat puts it in the back of the safeties minds.
Now, I'm not saying it cant be stopped. I'm actually stunned its worked as much as it has, lol... but there are a lot of elements that help make it work, other than just hiking it to the RB.

Hey fin, just wondering if you're planning on starting slaton in your fantasy league. I have him on my team too, and I've noticed no one has really run well on ya'll yet.. is that because your run defense is vikings/ravensesque like the stats would imply or did LT just have a bad game last week?

I dont know if I would go that far, lol. But our run D has been very good. It starts with our front 3. We use a sick rotation at the 2 DE spots in the 3-4, all of which are starting caliber. Vonnie Holiday starts w/ rookie Phillip Merling rotating with him... And rookie Kendal Langford starts, with Randy Starks rotating with him. The rotation keeps them all fresh and firing all game.
Langford and Merling have looked great as rookies so far, each registering sacks and stout against the run, and Starks was added from the Titans defense last year which was great against the run as well.
And our NT Jason Ferguson is a mammoth in the middle at the nose.
That front 3 has allowed our LBs to fly around and make tackles.
When it comes to running the ball against the Fins for you, its going to be whether your OLmen can man up 1v1 on our DLmen, allowing the 2 free linemen to get to the 2nd level and pick up our LBs.
Personally, I'm starting Slaton in my league... but I dont have much of a choice with that team. He may not have a good day on the ground, but I think he could do well in the passing game when matched up on one of our LBs...

You guys and your grumbling. We are trying to talk about this weeks game and you guys keep bickering with each other, lol.
Dont worry, I know how you feel. You think 0-4 is bad? Try 0-13. We were 0-13 at one point last season... it was miserable. lol

That concerns me becaus ethe 3-4 gives us fits and Kubes was comparing it to the 3-4 the Cowboys run when he was talking about the team on 610 sportsradio on Monday.
Our O-line has had a horrible time dealing with the 3-4 so far this season and they need to make some adjustements for it this weekend. I woudl honestly rather face the 3-4 withy ou guys than the Ravens, Steelers, or Cowboys.
We have already seen the 3-4 for the Steelers and Cowboys, so I hope it warms us up for making the right reads on our O-line to prep for the Ravens game.

I believe our 3-4 is more like the Cowboys than the Steelers.
The Steelers have used more of a traditional 2-gap front in the 3-4(at least they used to... not sure what Tomlin has them doing). We, like the Cowboys, use more of a 1-gap front. Parcells traditionally uses the 2-gap, and thats what he used when he was in Dallas... but the DC we brought from Dallas picked up some of the 1-gap stuff that Wade Phillips implemented... and we seem to be using more of that style of the 3-4.

So how has your run defense been this year? If you can stop us on the ground... and force Pennington to throw a lot... you got us beat. How have you guys done so far on run defense? You seem to have a pretty taleted front 7 in terms of high draft picks invested into it.

Yea, we held them to a **** low number, not characteristic of Jax at all, especially since the run game is their bread and butter.

After looking up the numbers... I hope you guys play a lot more like you did in your other 3 games against the Steelers(5.5ypc for Parker), Colts(4.2ypc for Addai), and Titans(4.6ypc for CJ). :D
Ronnie is currently averaging 4.9ypc...

We keyed in on the Jags run game because it is what makes their O run. We had a bit of an issue with containing CJ, but that was also not our biggest issue in that game. We were not able to pressure Collins when he would throw the ball. I am willing to bet we will be stacking the box against you guys as well to contain the run. Do not let the numbers fool you from the Colts game. We had them locked down as well and the runs Addai put up were typically not in position to change the momentum of the game. The only impact run I rmemeber him making was in the last 2 minutes when he ran it from the 20 to the 5 yard line and set-up Payton's throw into the endzone to give them the lead. Other than that Addai got some nice runs on early downs and then we would stop them cold on 2 and 3rd downs.
Our run D is solid and as long as we keep up decent pressure on the QB our secondary will look just as solid.
Ronnies number do look good and those crack back blocks certainly help to break him into open space.
Watch out for Sleepy Slaton though, he just disappears and reappears 10 yards down the field after he turns that afterburner on! I have decided he has stealth abilities that people have not caught onto yet. :)

As it regards to this weekend's game, I'm excited for a well contested game. Both teams have a ton to prove, and last year's game was too close for comfort. The funny thing (to me) is that this year's Texans remind me a lot of last year's Dolphins.
I'll let the boo's die down a minute.
What I mean by that is last year, many of the Dolphins games were very close contests and they just couldn't take advantage of all of their opportunities. Thus far this year, the Texans have faltered in the same manner.
Hopefully the Dolphins won't get too cute with their "Wildcat Formation" (dunno if that's the actual name, or just what BSPN calls it) and decide to throw to Pennington for a TD. The Texans have already been the victems of too many highlight reels.
Let's see if Jake Long can handle Mario ;).

Mario tends to choose which side he wants to line up on as the offense breaks their huddle, but he seems to rush more naturally from the strong side (my opinion, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.)
I'm sure you guys will be more than happy to bring a crack-back or chip block his way to give Jake a little help early on, but it's going to be fun watching two young guys with a chip on their shoulder compete.
My main concern (for the Texans) is keeping your running game out of our secondary. It seems that we give up a lot of extra yards if the DL/LB's aren't there to make every play.

BILL PARCELLS has built a few teams in his time, and it shows....we really need a WIN, sooooooo unfortunatly i hope we DESTROY YOU.....but.....we have PROBLEMS IN HOUSTON.....even our own fans get online and just talk negative about OUR TEAM. EVERY TIME THEY TALK......lol must be DALLAS fans cause they know we hate them:D....but even without the TRUE FAN SUPPORT......i think TEXANS 33-DOLPHINS 28 sounds good to me.....the extra 2 points was from MARIO gettin a SAFETY:D

My prediction:
Houston will be leading 27-21 with :20 seconds remaining.
While trying to run out the clock, there is a bad snap. As an offensive lineman tries to fall on the ball, he misses and it rolls out into the open field.
Miami defender picks up the ball and runs in for the TD. After the PAT, the Dophins win 28-27. Texans take pride in discovering yet another unprecedented and creative way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
