Today on NFL Live someone actually picked Matt Schaub to be the sleeper quarterback out of the new quaterbacks for this upcoming season...
However, he was said to be no Drew Brees miracle...just when they give us a little something they slap us back down to hurt us again.

I caught that too. I didn't see the whole segment so I don't know what led up to it, but I walked in the room and heard the guy giving some very valid points as to why Schaub would be the sleeper. But Trey Wingo dumped all over him when he brought it up. He busted our O-line again and said something about Schaub throwing from his back. Other than the slight irritation by that I was proud to hear a lot of the points we discuss here mentioned by someone on ESPN.

Just curious, who was giving out the positive goods?

Just curious, who was giving out the positive goods?
The "expert" was Matthew Berry who works as the fantasy football "guru" for ESPN.com/Insider.
The question was, from a fantasy football viewpoint, which of the replacement QBs (guys that are coming to new teams and replacing the traded or released QBs from last year) will have the best FFL value?
Tray Wingo was using Drew Brees as the yardstick for QB sleeper picks from last year and asked which guy would compare to Brees this year?
To his credit, Berry said no replacement guy should be expected to put up Brees-type numbers this year since Brees turned out to be a top-5 FFL (I know he carried me last year ;) ). His "best bet" was Jeff Garcia. Garcia is going into a WCO in TB. the type of offense that he has had success with in past years.
Interestingly, he said fantasy owners should avoid JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn (ESPN's darling of '07)
Berry recommended Matt Schaub as the best bet as a "sleeper". He mentioned Ahman Green, AJ, and Owen Daniel as potential weapons for Schaub. He also said, "I believe in Gary Kubiak's; I believe in him as a coach. I believe in him as a guy who can develop QBs." It was somewhere in there where Wingnut said something about Schaub "throwing from his back".
But Berry also said, "...and you know they'll be playing from behind in Houston."
...as long as we're ahead when the final gun sounds, baby :D
EDIT: I watched the 11:30pm version of NFL Live - thank goodness for DVRs! And Mark Schlereth was on that fantasy football segment with Berry. To my surprise, he agreed with Berry! (I had to replay it 4-5 times to make sure I wasn't hallucinating.) Schlereth actually complimented Kubiak, "one of their coaches is Gary Kubiak; I believe that he can groom a QB." Then again, they were teammates in Denver... Anyway, he said, with Ahman Green their running game should be better, and they have had trouble protecting the QB in the past "...but I believe those things will rectify themselves this year in Houston."

Wow the soap star said something different for a change, how very odd
Well, ever since Baldinger took the time to actually analyze Carr vs. Schaub...a lot of sports commentators are beginning to slowly realize that there is PROOF out there that the o line is not the problem.
We beat the Colts, David went 16-23 and for 163 yards...NO SACKS. David, even when he's upright, can't get the job done. Kubiak basically put him on a short chain and won games with RON DAYNE.
When you have Ron Dayne as a better weapon than David Carr, you know your QB stinks.
These guys are backtracking from their hate...slowly and methodically...each week another guy takes his turn at picking Schaub as a sleeper, as a better QB than first imagined.
If we stay healthy, we'll do just fine.

Yeah that's Trey's way of pretending to now football. He thinks when he brings up the 249 sacks everyone will think that he knows what he's talking about.Just the other day they were talking about David Carr and how he failed the Texans, then he said "they failed him just as much as he failed them" and said that Schaub will just try to avoid becoming, get this,"the Human Pinata".

Trey is an *****. I hope that Schaub and the O-Line make him eat his words.

And then today, in the same segment, they mention Ahman Green as a possible sleeper. The guy pointed out the yards that Houston picked up as a team last year and said that AG was better than all those guys put together so our running game should be much better.
I think it was that same Berry guy.

That should be interesting to see. I DVR'd NFL Live on the off chance there's some actual football news. (not to be confused with the "guess who's in trouble now" crap they call news.)
Is it just me or does anyone else find these subtle behavioral pattern changes disturbing.
First one show where a FFL analyst picks Schaub as a "sleeper"...
...then Roc Hoover... err, Mark Schlereth agrees with him!
And the very next day, ESPN goes on record as saying our running game should improve and our starting back (who isn't Reggie Bush) is a recommended FFL sleeper pick!!!!
Next you'll tell me there was no mention of Vince Young!!
And that Houston gas prices are starting to go down during the summer!
Its a sign of the Apocalypse I tell you!!
 AIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

Now that Vick has been indicted there will be a very large spotlight on the Atlanta Falcons QB situation. Mark my words, Schaub's name will be mentioned a ton, and the media will shift their position on him because the Falcons are screwed.
They'll be talking about how much it hurts the Falcons to lose a backup of Schaub's potential. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot his highlights replayed as a Falcon showing "what he brought to the table in Vick's abscence." It's humorous because it will be hard, if not impossible, for the talking heads to put a spin on Schaub when talking about the two teams, but I'm sure they'll find a way.

I despise ESPN. They're just hype-machines and their journalistic integrity is nonexistent.
We don't need em' anyway....GO TEXANS

From what I have been able to gather, Ahman is looking very good and real healthy. If he stays that way, it bodes well for us. If AG is running and blocking well, Schaub will have a very good year. If he can't stay on the field Schuab will have a tough time having a middle of the road year IMO.

Funny you should mention Ahman. I was just reading this:
http://www.houstontexans.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=3408
“Oh yeah, hands down, I feel 120 percent better,” Green said. “Working out in this type of weather, that’s the biggest change for me. Because I work hard, regardless of whether I’m at Green Bay or at Nebraska, I will be in shape for that climate so now that I’m down here where it’s humid every day. I’m ready for it. I haven’t been in this good of shape since college.”
I don't think we have to worry about AG. He's ready. I like what he had so say about the other backs too. He and Dayne are teaching the young guys how it's done.
“We have a good group,” Green said. “We have myself and Ron who are kind of the captains of the group or the head of the group and we’ve kind of shown the younger guys what we’ve picked up during our careers. We kind of show them how to make everything work as one and on the top of that we have a lot of fun. If you’re not having fun, you’re not going to be great at what you’re doing.”
But most of all I like his outlook on the offense as a whole....
“With coach Sherman and coach Kubiak, they’re both offensive minds so it’s going to be run smoothly,” Green said. “But we have a big-time receiver in Andre Johnson and some other weapons. I think we’re going to get this thing going on the ground and really do some things as an offensive unit that maybe people aren’t expecting.”
With a lack of things going on prior to camp the only thing that anyone can draw speculate from is how guys are staying in shape and building chemsitry with each other. None of our guys are in jail, or being investigated. We're looking pretty smart with our QB overhaul, and it sounds like our running game could be dominant.
READY FOR CAMP!!!

Its cruel the way you just sling koolaid all over the place. Especially so close but so far from the season.

me too. i really feel like this is the year.
Schaub is going to utilize Owens like he has with Crumpler in Atl, add that with a healthy mathis (who i still think has potential and andre mentioned him in his latest comments which is a really good sign imo) to be the burner, Dre to roam freely similar how T.O. did in Philli his first year there, and mystery man Kevin *McCafrey v2.o* Walters to prove his worth. Setting this up will be provided by a dangerous running attack from Green and Dayne. I really think this one-two punch will keep fresh legs under both backs for a late season run. I also like our depth at RB...possibly a few sleepers.
On the flip side is a defense that was a top 10-D in 06 for the last half of the season that will be spearheaded by demeco and mario who are a year wiser and healthier. Okoye potentially can thrive as a pass rusher up the middle which will help the secondary tremendously that is filled with (other than robinson) a group of average players at best and are possibly the teams achilles heal...
Maddux, Johnson, and Weaver are going to be key in our run defense... amobi is probably goin to go through some growing pains when he sees the more complex blocking schemes as a rookie...
