Does anyone have any new info on our favorite cornerback? I know that he comes off PUP after week six. I also remember Kube saying in one of the press conferences that he was hesitant to out D-Rob on the PUP because he might be ready to go before week six. But being as the Texans have played four games and had a "bye week" he should be active after we play Miami. Wonder how his rehab is coming.....when will he be game ready?

I look for week 8 for him to be put into the lineup.

I don't think we'll wait till week 8 to play him, I see him getting some time maybe on nickel situations, but I don't think he'll start until week 10 or MAYBE 9.

You would put in a player with no practice time as a nickle or dime CB in week 7?

Depends, he could play week 6-8. But, it would be dumb to chance it till 8-10.

They said on 610 today that he is ready but have to wait until he's eligable to come back off of PUP list. He will be back vs. Detroit.

Hmmm....I GUESS, seeing as how he knows this defense like the back of his hand... xP

It has no bearing on how well he knows the defense but he will be extremely rusty in technique and you don't want to throw him into the fire until he can atleast guard some people in practice.

Wolf123

when do we play Detroit?

if that's before week 9 then consider me right, you wrong ;)

So you want him to guard roy or calvin with no practice time?

Wolf123

Hmm? does he do that as a sub in the Nickel? I don't think so..I think you need to rethink your facts buddy

regardless, Dunta is already ready..BEFORE the Detroit game, so I think he'd be fine, maybe a little soft, but after a couple hits, he'd be ok.

Your right teams woudn't dare put a star WR in the slot. That would just be unheard of. I especially woudn't do it if a team was putting a in CB who hasn't even practiced in a year!

How do you know that dunta is already ready?

Wolf123

Hasn't he said it on many occasions that he's ready? and from what someone already posted, he's gonna be ready against Detroit so there you go.

and no offense to the Texans D

but he is already better than most of the Texans corners out there at 50% and I expect him to be farther than that, when he plays against the lions.

and to top things off, Kubiak wouldn't play him if he wasn't ready.

He's said that he's ahead of schedule but not that he's ready. How would they know he's going to be ready?

He is a better then all our other CB's, but everyone needs time to practice before being thrown into the fire. You don't start a pitcher who hasn't thrown anything for a year in a playoff game!

Wolf123
10-07-2008, 10:17 PM
OK so wait, let me get this straight

If you had to choose between Jim Sorgi, who has played all the games this year, compared to Peyton Manning, you wouldn't in a playoff game?

Same situation if you were coach of the Pats..you would start Matt Cassel over Tom Brady?

sorry my friend, but you wouldn't win many games...

Dunta is already better than all our other CB's so why not let him improve our defense even if it's only in the nickel?

gotcha ;)

No if either tom brady or peytan manning hadn't practiced at all for a year I would not start them b/c they would be a detriment to the team. I dont care how great you are you, your not going to play well if you haven't had any practice.

Wolf123

You want T-mack takeing the game winning shot if he hasn't shot a ball in a year?

You want roy oswalt starting game seven if he hasn't thrown a ball in a year?

The answer is NO! You don't put one player no matter how great they are above the team without knowing their ready to perform. And you don't know there ready till they practice.

Wolf123

wouldn't he practice the WHOLE week before the game? yes he would, then Kubiak would decide if he can play, then he plays, he IMPROVES the Defense and we win.

You're not grasping your mind around this one, so you're not understanding what I'm saying. Nice try though.

oh your right i'm sorry. Wednesday he would be apart of the installation, thursday the starters would get most of the reps and friday and saturday are for walk throughs and specific instances like red zone and two minute drills.

So your looking at one to two days of practice. And your not grasping your mind around the fact that kubiak isn't going to play anyone if they're no ready. Wins are hard to come by in this league and kubiak won't risk it until he's sure. If you want others opinions both Lance Z and John Mclain said that week 8 would be the earliest he would see action.

Fine then I don't wanna see number 23 on the field until week 8, if he does play before then, then you have to start up a thread stating that I am your superior ;)

Sure whatever you say.

By "he" are you refering to Kubes or Dunta saying he is ready to go?

Kubes said on sportradio 610 on Monday that Dunta has beenr eady and would be in this weekend if they did not have to wait because of the PuP rules stating he has to sit out until week 6.

Kubes is very political in the things he says, he will not make a statement unless it is true. Just think of all the sidestepping he did with Ahman Green and Chris Brown with all their injuries for an example. For him to say he woudl play Dunta in the game this weekend means that Dunta has not been sitting on the sidelines taking naps at practice. It means Kubes feels that Dunta would be enough of an asset to the team to have him suited and on the field.

Kubes stated... "Dunta is ready and we would use him this week if we could. We will have to wait until the PuP period ends though before we can get him on the field. Good thing we missed the Baltimore game because it means we can have him playing for one more game this season." (papaphrased a bit)

This all came from the Kubiak show on 610 sportsradio... listen to it if you want info on the players straight from Kubiak's mouth!

Heard the same thing that TexanSaint posted.
23 is ready to go, he just has wait out the PUP term which is week 7. I'll be stoked to see him back. With him and Demeco's 'never-quit' attitude, i can see it being a huge boost for our D.

Dunta was very upbeat in the locker room today during his interview with the media. He sounded ready to play. Here's some of what he said:

(on how he feels) "I feel real good. I’m itching. I was pacing back and forth the whole walkthrough (this morning). Coach asked me what was wrong and I was like, ‘Nothing. It’s time for football again.’ So I feel real good. It’s a blessing to be back in this point to even be talking about playing football again. I’ve worked hard, and it’s winding down. I can’t wait to get back out there with my teammates.”

(on if he’ll be able to practice a week from today) “Right. Next week around this time I’ll be suiting up getting ready to go to practice. I can’t wait.”

(on how limited he will be during practice) “I’m not sure yet. My knee has been feeling fine. I’m going out there with the intentions of going through the entire practice, but it all depends on how my knee feels. I haven’t put any limitations on what I’m going to do and what I can’t do, but I plan on practicing the entire practice.”

Not to mention, though Dunta hasnt been practicing with the team, he has probably been going full speed through DB drills with the trainers so that his hips and footwork are as fluid as ever. The only thing left is a few matchups with AJ in practice.

Why are you guys comparing this to Game 7 of the World Series or the Super Bowl? It's the middle of the regular season...

He's going to be practicing with the team. It's not like one day he's restricted to bedrest and the next he's expected to be out on the field for 3 hours, shutting down number 1 receivers.

Even if he does get winded or sore, it's not the end of the world. Starting is nothing near playing every down.

I'm betting he'll start the first game out. He'll be 100% and can get full reps the whole week. And it's not like he hasn't been watching, and possibly working out some of the plays on his own.

well be he phased in or starting I am glad to see him return. His performance and pure love of the game is sure to step things up for the rest of the defense. So hooray I, for one, sure missed Dunta.:D

If y'all think Dunte's gonna come back and be shut down right after this catastrophic injury, y'all r more delusional than that cyanide kool-aid dispenser. He won't be back to 90% what he was until atleast this time next year.

Hope to see him back in the lineup against Detroit, that way he goes up against some top notch comp in Williams and Johnson. Even if he doesnt play extremely well that game, we should still be able to pull out the win, and he can get back into the swing of things.

Dunta would be just what we need. His attitude is contagious and hopefully will be able to help the D elevate their game. Him on one side and Fred on the other is a pretty nice line up.

Did you not realize your comment is just as dumb as people saying he will magically hit the field and be perfect?

Dunta has been working his butt off, much harder than he has normally worked. He has been studying film more than ever and now that he has been able to push his knee in practices he is getting hit step back.

We will all know what kind of condition he is in soon enough. Unlike you I think he will be making a big impact on this team within a few games if not immediatly as a morale boost.
