View Full Version : Is this the type of win we needed?

Let's be honest here. The Texans, going into this game at 0-4 needed a win to turn around this already dissapointing season. This could come in a variety of ways; A blowout, a low-scoring defensive game, an offensive spectacle, or this.

I've defended that this team has shown improvement despite losing, so as to not make myself a hypocrite and say that a win is a win, I ask you... Is this the type of win we needed to turn this season around?

Was it better to come from behind and have to find it within ourselves to win this football game, or would it have been better for our mindset to have won in any other fashion?

It was an ugly win to be sure.

The final drive was a huge confidence booster for the offense though.

It's not as good as destroying somebody, but it's an improvement over the crushing heart ache of shooting yourself in the foot, after outplaying your opponent.

I believe it is the W's that are remember not how nasty or bad the gameplay was, to be honest. Of course we would love Houston to blow out teams 30 plus points, however they played with heart and if they win the next games by only a point, I will be happy for the W's...

I think an offensive and defensive blowout would have been better for the team overall, but that drive has to make this team feel good. Now the offense knows they can run the 2 min drill and the defense knows that the offense can win a game if needed.

...let's face it, we LOST the game with #26's run to glory. We did it AGAIN. But, for once-- somebody ELSE will have to think about our 4th down completion, etc. We all know as fans, those are the hardest in this league. Let's get 'em fellas! ;)

I agree 0ss0 great post about the Dolphins, to say they suck would be a joke.

I'm sure that Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Jacksonville, and Indianapolis probably said the same thing about us sucking.

Time to prove the naysayers wrong....hopefully !!!

I meant absolutely no disrespect towards the Dolphins. My question was more or less was it more important for us to have to dig down and find a way to win a football game, or to just trample somebody in order to restore confidence.

I'm leaning towards the former, because I'm sure some of the players might have lost confidence in our ability to make plays when it really matters. This win shows them that they can do it, and might help them later on in the season.

For the past 6 weeks I haven't heard anyone on ESPN or NFL Network say that we are horrible, I've heard them say it about Cincy, Lions, and Rams, but they all say that our record doesn't portray our talent. We needed a win, and a win like this does way more.

A win is a win! Yeah we still have a LOT of work to do, but hey, we didn't roll over and take it this time!

i think either win would have had the same result... i just think today's win had a better mental toughness impact... it truly gave them the "it's not over until it's over" mentality... not just for schaub as a qb, but for every player in a texans jersey... we needed them to KNOW that, in the future if they are down on the scoreboard, they can pull off a win like this when needed... much like im sure peyton manning knew he could help bring his team to overcome the odds last week against us... since he's been in similar situations before...

I think the way they won was real important to the team because Schaub demonstrated he can run a 2-minute drill and lead a come-from-behind win in the final minutes of the game.

That is a huge confidence builder - in your teammates and your QB. Did Elway's teammates ever doubt he could do that? No way. He didn't always succeed, but there was never any doubt that he could do it.

It's a "W", and I'll take it after the start we've had.
I'd rather have this type of win, than the type of losses we've been having the past few weeks.

1-4 looks better than 0-5!

1-4 looks better than 0-5! Not every win is going to be pretty. A win is a win.

A scratch and claw your way to a W and not give up is what we needed. If we won by 40+ we would go into next week thinking we could do the same. This type game makes us aware we can win, but have to play better. And that last drive shows what an NFL QB should do under pressure...unlike Sage last week who choked and blew 17pts and got us a L.

Any win is the kind of win the Texans needed.

I've read so many times players that are on championship teams say how HARD it is to win in this league.

That was a good win for the Texans!

I like this response. My interpretation is that a blowout victory would simply lead to overconfidence rather than a winning attitude that could turn around our season in a hurry.

I'm fully optimistic of our chances against the Lions and Bengals, but I had this same feeling when he headed to Atlanta last year (after a 2-1 start).

Have a good week everyone.

(Yay, post #100. I'm no longer a complete noob on these forums... in true football knowledge, perhaps... but not on these forums ;))
