While watching the game today two things really stuck out to me.

1. Our defensive players are almost never near the reciver when they catch the ball. Watch any NFL game and you will not see receivers so wide open. Is this coaching or the players? I would have to say coaching.

2. Our players dont try to strip the ball. I would have to say that this is caused by the fact that they are not coached to do so.

The fact is our defense is the softest defense I can ever remember seeing.

My question is this the fault of Richard Smith or Gary Kubiak?

I would tend to say both.

I would agree.

We play a prevent defense and try to avoid giving up the big play. The point is that we have been giving up the big play anyway.

We are awful on 3rd down. Just shamefully awful.

You can blame the coaches all you want. They do not play. We can't cover in man coverage because the corners are to weak and in zone the safetys are always out of position. No matter who is the coach and whatever the scheme we only have 2 players on this defence #59 and #90. This has to be priority #1 for the Texans no Defence no win.

It's the players and Smith. Gary is the head coach, yes. But, once he tells his assistants what needs done he has to trust they do so.

He isn't making tackles, but the players aren't in good positions to make them often either...Thats ALL on Smith for his game plan.

Meanwhile, when we have no pass rush and the DB's are all turned around or tripping(saw that AGAIN today)...thats on players.

Our db's are never near the wr's because we give them a 10 yard cushion. The Colts just took advantage of that all day long, they had over twice as many first downs as we did. They just took what we gave them. That is why we couldn't stop them on third down. This is the DC's fault. I won't put a defensive performance on Kubiak. He is really just a glorified OC. We must find a DC that can completely take the reigns on defense and manage every aspect of the defense.

I'd buy that accept alot of this same wad was here when Capers was and it was the same *******. Do you remember all the players (Robair Smith and D. Rob) all yaking about how they were not suited for the 3-4 Defence and when the coaches all left the 4-3 was to be the ticket. Well this just in they aren't suited for that D either.I'm probably wrong but the problem is maybe the lack of vetern players on this squad to help these young guys out.
