For all of those who say fire Kubiak. Don't be stupid. He is an offensive coach and like it or not he is still learning how to be a head coach. They have the #2 overall ranked offense in the AFC. If they were to fire him that would be the dumbest move in Houston sports history. They do need to make changes on the defensive side of the ball but give him young coach a chance to learn from his mistakes like all the other great coaches have. All coaches make mistakes during the course of a game...even the great ones.

The only real change close to Kubiak I would want would be for either a full time experienced offensive coordinator or a experience quarterback coach. I can't help but think the way things are now, with possibly everything being on Kubiak's shoulders because he can't fully trust Kyle Shanahan yet or everything being thrown between the two (and possibly Gibbs), is one of the reason we are getting such erractic quarterback play.

Now I don't want the young Shanahan fired completely but take away one of his positions and give it to someone else that can completely take over it (I am thinking QB coach) and so that Kyle can focus on the other one. This lose heirarchy that they have with the offense might not be as an effective of structure for Kubiak as it was back in the Denver days when he was in Kyle's position.

But other then that Kubiak shouldn't be fired. I think the improvements he made in the previous seasons and the offensive play he has gotten (minus turn overs) warrents him another season. Although McNair should be on Kubiak's backside trying to get him to stop protecting Richard Smith.

This team is a couple good defensive tackles away from a playoff contender.

Bring in an experienced D-Coordinator and the coaching staff is done.

Kubes is running an effective offense.

They have a well oiled machine as an offense. They are running the ball. They are passing effectively. Both Shaub and Rosefeld are good passers. Sage is throwing a lot of picks, but I think a lot of it has to do with him trying too hard to orchestrate comebacks. Hand it to him, he gambles to try to pull a vitory from the hands of defeat. What has resulted --- turnovers.

But back to the point...

The defense with Ryans and Williams is being man handled. Simply unacceptable!!! But the Line simply cannot provide a consistent push. Is it the scheme or is it the talent.

We have 3 first rounders and a 2nd rounder in Weaver. There is a #1 pick Mario, a # 10 pick Okoye, a # 15 pick Johnson, and a 2nd rounder Weaver. Williams is a super star and is all over the field. Okoye is a young 2nd year guy who is probably having an extended rookie wall combined with a sophmore jinx.

But then we get to Travis and Weaver. Both are veterans. Weaver provides absolutley no pass rush. Do ya'll know that the last time he had "A" sack was in 2006!!! And you know what, in the last 3 years he has had uhmm 1 fricken sack!!!! And he's been a Texan for 3 seasons!!! Is he a Defensive end or a Defensive Tackle? He might be good against the run, but teams know that all they have to worry about is Mario Williams or Bullman. Because Weaver, Johnson, or Okoye won't be getting to the quarterback. So quarterbacks know they can dissect the weak secondary.

This is on the Texans web site regarding Weaver.....
"PRO (through 2007 season): Explosive defensive end that has lined up at tackle in passing situations…known for his sound fundamentals…has started 82 of 87 career games over six seasons…has 215 career tackles and 15.5 career sacks for 108 yards."

I guess when he was in Baltimore he fed his sack totals off of the Ray Lewis led Baltimore defense.

But, I still have hopes for Okoye, but maybe he should concentrate on getting stronger and being a backup for next season.

And Travis Johnson is doing average. But, in my opinion nowhere near the level of play where he got drafted.

I have no problem keeping Kubiak based on what the offense has been able to do. Where the problem lies IMO is that he won't or doesn't see the short-comings on the defensive side and won't take action to get rid of the OC.

I agree 100%. Kubes is an alright head coach for now. Lets remember this is only his third year as a head coach. To have our offense where it is is remarkable considering all the turnovers this year. Within the next two years I believe we will be the top offense in the NFL. What he needs to do is just get rid of the DC. OUR DEFENSE IS A JOKE. i DON'T THthimk our defensive players are that bad, but smith puts us in horrible schemes and coverages constantly and limits playmaking abilities. I also think we are 1 dc away and a couple of more players from being at least a respectable defense. Kubes just needs to man up and get rid of smith

Chris when you see someone post "fire Kubiak" just move on to the next one that makes some sense.
