Just when I thought things couldn't get much worse I had to read the Chronicle this morning. There is an article about Robinson and Jerome Solomon seems to think Dunta will depart for greener pastures this off season. I can't blame Dunta for wanting to play for a team that actually does compete and make the playoffs and it doesn't look like the Texans will be competitive soon enough for him to stay. :(

Is Mario next?

that would suck. i would think he would chill after how good the team was after his injury. i dont know how many team will be flocking to a corner just coming back from a major injury like that, except the Texans. but you never know

Let him leave if he wants too. There is no reason to worry about. We will just have to replace him somehow.

"The fifth-year Texan hopes to remain in Houston for the duration of his career, the young franchise’s entrenched shortfalls notwithstanding."

Mario is signed through 2011.

Walter and Ryans contracts expire after the '09 season.

Other UFAs this year besides Dunta are Eugene Wilson, Nick Ferguson, Jeff Zgonina, Cecil Sapp, Bryan Pittman, Scott Jackson, Craig Nall, Petey (Faggins not Reeves), C.C. Brown, and I think Earl Cochran.

Eugene Wilson is the only player, besides Dunta, on that list that we need to lock down. Cut the rest to free up more dough.

Dunta will NOT be with the Texans next year if he is looking for Samuel, Hall, Clement money, $70,000,000 w/$20,000,000 + GTD. Texans will not pay that kind of money with so many other needs on defense....You have to ask how much worse can the Texans defense be without Dunta?

He will not ask for a crazy amount knowing what aj did this past season with his contract. He is a texan and will stay a texan. He knows what they have been through financially with bringing in players, he won't hurt the team.

I think OD is a fa too.

Daniels is a RFA. Big difference. I think David Anderson is also RFA. He's in his 3rd year but I need to check his accrued seasons. Same with Rashad Butler.

The Texans will give OD at least a first round tender and maybe even a first and third. That will keep other teams away. Even if it doesn't, the Texans always have first right of refusal to match.

I think Owen Daniels is pretty happy with the situation here and I am sure the team will do whatever it takes to keep him.

Dunta might leave, but I doubt we will let him go without a fight. He is too much of a leader to just let him walk off, especially coming off a season where so many of our secondary is getting blamed for problems that seem to come from our current DC.

OD is a RFA but the Texans will probobly look to lock him up in the offseason. Demeco only has one more year left on his contract so they will probobly attempt to lock him up as well. I believe DRob will be back. Although we know he is a stud, he has never been to a pro bowl and has already had major knee surgery. Other teams will not throw big money at him because of that and since the Texans are already weak at db I doubt the Texans let anyone out bid us. He would have to leave for less money. I know he loves to win but I believe he wants to be apart building the Texans into a winning team.

What player in their right mind wouldn't want a buttload of money. After we release Ahman Green, Jacque Reeves, and Anthony Weaver there lies the buttload of money for Dunta.

Dunta is just as good or better than Clement, samuel and Hall but none of those guys are going to see that money. Hall couldn't make one year with that big contract and I bet the 9ers are not bringing nate clement back either. Samuel is ok but not a major upgrade of lito shepard so they got took on that signing. Texans have a lot of money to spend next year so it only makes sense to spend it on "our" guys first.

My biggest fear is that WHEN they fire R.Smith they take it as, "Oh it was the DC's and the scheme's fault, not the personel". Then they do nothing in FA or the draft and we end up with the same people.

Keep in mind that Dunta just came off what could have been a career ending injury. Nobody is going to take the chance of tossing a large sum of cash at him when he has only been back for a few weeks.

The Texans will pay him what he is due, we are not the Oilers and we do not try to cut corners on our players salaries like the old days with Bud Adams. I would be extremely shocked to see Dunta leave.

yup. I'd like to see Cochran stay too, though. The rest can all go IMO
