After today's great performance by the defense, it appears that Richard Smith may have saved his job, for now. I'm still in support of a new DC but I give the Texans D mad props for capitalizing on bad plays and making them into their own.

GO TEXANS!!!

I think it was more a case of the Brown's offense playing so poorly that it helped our defense look better.

Oh but I must note that Reeves was extremely lucky the Edwards was doing awful today.

So if we dropped every INT we still would have won?

so the defense played great because someone threw a ball right at them? They still suck against the run, they dont pressure the QB hardly at all, and our cornerbacks like to put hands in the face and not turn for the ball. Luckily Cleveland's offense is pretty bad. You saw what happens when they play someone who knows how to throw the ball like Peyton Manning. Its not like they forced any of those turnovers, Cleveland pretty much walked up and handed them the ball.

Not really. Kubiak has already stated he would stick with Smith for the rest of the season. Kubes is the sort of stubborn and loyal guy to do just that even if the only win was against the Raiders.

It still looks like Richard Smith is done after this season, along with a lot of the defensive coaching staff.

I do not think that Smith saved his job today. Looking at his whole body of work this season, one good performance should not save him.

his *** is gone no matter what. I think today it was more of cleavland sucking than the defense being good.

I thought the Texans played their normal TURNOVER game. The difference is Cleveland committed more turnovers from their own sloppy play not from the Texans D..

The D finally stepped up today. Reeves still does not look for the ball, if Edwards didn't drop that TD pass this game might have been different. Weaver needs to play like this every week. Still no sign of Okoye and Travis. Mario is a freakin beast as always.

I hope this game doesn't save Smith, I saw we blitzed more, but if it wasn't for dropped passes our d plan still was garbage to some degree. Fire Smith still!!!!!!

I never said he saved it (long term as you're putting it) I'm just saying there's now probably 0 chance he'll be fired before the end of the season.

Our D didn't "suck" today so dont start saying that we won because of them. Stop crying and take a good win on the road guys...

Yes I agree, but to restate he'll not be fired before the end of the season. This is all this does.

I never said he would be gone before the end of the season. I doubt anyone really believed that we would sack him before early January. He should be, but we are not that sort of franchise.

I think our D did suck today. We still are having trouble stopping anyone on 3rd down and have yet to stop a team on 4th down. We got some good turnovers today, but that does not mean our D dominated. We did not sack Quinn or Anderson. We still played soft D. We won this game because the Browns made more mistakes than we did and failed to capitalize on ours.

We should enjoy this victory, but that does not mean we should lose sight of the shortcomings of this team. The D needs serious reform.

Lets be fair and give reeves some credit. He actually turned his head to find the ball today

True, but he didn't give up a touchdown. I'm not saying he is good, but lets give him credit for this one game.

umm ok if were being fair... then we should remind ourselves how pathetic he did look when he turned his head, ive seen 8 year olds with better ball skills than this guy. He just looks so uncomfortable looking for the ball no wonder he never turns his head

ya he turned his head, completely misjudged the ball, and let Edwards catch a deep ball right over his head. Reeves is terrible.

Mcnair already said there would be no changes until the offseason. There was a thread about this right?

Many DBs read the reciever's eyes and go for the ball on instinct without looking back and finding the ball. Reeves may be -gazing- INTO the reciever's eyes....NOT the message you wanna send Petey....Lol
