At this point I think the coaches are not the problem. On offense, Kubiak is not the one trowing the ball behind recievers who are open. On defens R. Smith is not the one getting beet. I think that we need at least one CB and one pass rushing DE for starters...and go from there. Plus Rosenfelt needs to go. I'll take my chances with the 3rd string QB at this point. If he throws 3 or 4 interceptions, it's nothing that Rosenfelt wouldn't have done anyways.

I agree it's not the coaches fault. There is only so much a coach can do, the players on the field need to step up a and execute. I still believe that richard smith should be fired, he doesn't put his players in a position to succeed.

I agree, R. Smith should probably go, but you got to admit he has not had much to work with this year. Reeves gets beet at least 2 or 3 times a game. And we get no pass rush opposite of M. Williams. So it is kind of hard to blame him when he is not the GM who brings in these guys. I'm sure there are other coaches who would get more out of the Texan players though.

I am more then willing to throw blame on the players but Smith has been here 3 season and we never have cracked even ranking 20th in overall defense.

We have 3 first round draft picks on the defensive line and other then Mario we haven't been able to get anything but average play from them this season. Despite Okoye showing promise early last season.

In the secondary Bennett last season earned his way into being a starting corner. Yet he has regressed so much this season that he lost his position to DeMarcus Faggins (who I can freely admit improved this season into a decent but slow corner).

I am tired of people saying look at what the defense has to work with, when a Kubiak led offense took the guys they have and created a top five offense. Other then Andre Johnson and Duane Brown (just barely) that are #1 picks, it seems like everyone else actually raises their expected playing ability beyond what even we predicted.

Occasionally coaches need to coach players up or in other words when given lemons, you make lemonade. It seems to me that Richard Smith is content to just suck on the lemons, rather then trying to make something out of them. I am guessing that without the leadership of DeMeco Ryans and the linebacker coach (I'll have to see who that is) are the only ones capable of coaching people up on the defense given what we have seen.
