  • Duane Brown embodies what is wrong with the Texans

Are you freaking serious? He is gonna hold out and he is set to earn 9 mill and change this year. Not like were gonna cut him anytime soon cause the line is so anemic.............. oh that is why he is acting up cause he has leverage? This is not even make sense as he is old as a dinosaur in NFL age, what he want a new 5 year contract?

Only in Texans country man. Always somethin' with this team.

Duane Brown's contract is not guaranteed money. If he tears an ACL he gets cut and loses it all. He should not show up and risk injury. The Texans could guarantee some of his money. You need him in camp. You are willing to pay him. You just have to decide to take a risk if you are the Texans. He is a team leader and a stalwart player. He deserves some respect. I might feel differently if he was asking for more money.

There is no risk, nobody is cutting duane brown he is the only decent lineman we've got. Play your contract and in 2019 if he is still functioning at a high level then we will address his contract. This potential hold out sends all the wrong message at all the wrong time.

How about we lessen his money and guarantee his contract eh........... of course not. He signed..., now its time to honor it.

At 31/32 this is his last chance to earn a third contract..plus like TexSid said his money is not guaranteed this season. I would give him a 2 year extension. With this year and next year's money guaranteed, then not guaranteed the final season. So basically by the time he's 34 we can cut him loose if need be

This is the a move to force elite money past his current contract instead of negotiating a new contract base on his health and skill set past this current contract. Poor excuse that "his contract is not guaranteed". We have NO LINE MEN.......... he contract is guaranteed even if injury happens.

He open pandora's box like Andre did, then were gonna cut duane................... then We really don't have any line. None of this is smart at his age.

I expect Clowney or Hop doing this sort of thing at this point of thier careers.......... Duane, just weird

I wonder who the great UDFA to replace Duane Brown. Rick Smith loves his UDFA linemen.

This is business, the man loses his earning potential by getting injured. If the precedent had already been set to negotiate in this manner, I imagine most would do the same thing.

Brown deserves every penny he wants, pay the man. If they don't pay Duane Brown and let him not play you can wrap it up for next year, Cleveland Browns are going to have some great picks in next year's draft. Brown is one of the best players ever for this team, only 1 other man has carried more of a load for the Texans in their entire history. Pay the man. Take care of your soldiers. He proved last year that he's still one of the best in the league, he dominated Khalil Mack in the playoff game against Oakland, he still playing at a high level.

As a negotiating point, Guaranteed money isn't that big of a deal. The Price, not the form, is always the issue. Want guaranteed money? Just reduce your contract by the value of the guarantee. But that won't happen because players want BOTH top dollar AND security. So it's the total value that is in play.

In the case of well performing aging vets, extending the contract a year with signing bonus money acting as the equivalent of a guarantee provides the player with some protection against injury for this season and prevents the club from losing a player to FA. Rolling one year extensions until the player can't make the roster or realizes he can't start 16 games anymore and agrees to reduce his pay commensurate with his reduced role.

I'd love to have Wilfork back as a backup NT with incentives in case his role is adjusted and he plays more than expected. Brown is not there yet, but soon will be.

Restructure the mans contract with some gauranteed money and maybe an additional extension through 2021 and call it a day.

It's business just like an employer can fire you and or reduce your pay. Brown is being a business man at the end of day. # Smart

It's the nature of the game now. Money for what you feel your worth. In Browns case, it's very clear he feels he is worth more or he just wants it to be guaranteed incase he gets hurt.

You're over reacting. This is hardly a distraction and he has a right to express himself how he feels. You act as if he just ran over your dog.

Strictly business? Then we should let him hold out and cut him...next year.

Heck yeah I take this personal. Like we NEEDED a hold out from out best line man when we possibly could have the worst O-line in the league this season. This is a utter disaster!

Duane might as well take his fist and punch every Texans fan...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! While he rans to the bank with his 9 mill this year and 10 next year. 19 mill will really make you FEARFUL for the future................. YEAH SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets allocate more resources on an aging lineman while we let Bouye at his prime walk uncontested the Jags................................ oh this is smart. This is how you build championships team.
