  • Rick Smith

He is done, yes he found some players that helped us win, but his solid stance that an average QB with a "good" defense and solid run game wins Super Bowls has played out. I think it only happened 3 times in 20 years.

On O'Brien: this game at the NFL level is over his head.

My takes: still have a solid core of players, try to go get Brees to us in his last years, since Saints are in rebuild mode, and just using him as a stop gap QB. (Don't tel Saints fans that, tho)

Our first round pick is a bust, Jadeveon Clowney is slower than syrup, he freezes on plays, and constantly looks confused, get rid of him since he likes strip joints over studying the the playbook.

Rick Smith is an easy target to criticize. However,
Smith is not calling all of these patterns short of the first down.
Smith is not calling plays for an erratic, strong arm QB to be throwing 5 yard passes.
Smith is not calling plays for 2 out of 3 WRs to run hooks into the middle of a defense when the defense is playing a zone.

Rick Smith needs to swap-out Coach Butt-Chin.

Review his draft history & success. Your right....easy target and easy decision when you look at this.

Rick Smith has made some great draft picks. It's always tough to predict how 22-year old guys will develop.

Smith is NOT the problem on gamedays.
          P.S. Have a nice day!

But his tread to keep saying that QB is not the issue, an average QB wins super bowls with defense and solid running game is overplayed because we have no Running Game, we have no Defense anymore, our secondary is constantly shredded.

Rick Smith is the GM and is job is to get the coaches to perform. He is paid to make the tough decisions and his coaching staff is just plainly outmatched. If RS cannot put his boot is someone's &** then find someone who can get it done. Niceness at his level doesn't produce results.

Your right...he is not the problem on game days. But the problem is not just on game days, that's just when the problem is evident to everyone watching!

Let's ask the simple question. Is Rick Smith going to get us where we want to go? I'm going no on that one. He's had ten years and two head coaches. It's not happening. Sure, BillO might not be the guy either but you have to separate the two and evaluate them individually. Otherwise, you'll paralyze yourself.

Wrong. Houston has had a history of strong GM's. Not saying all were good but we had some success. RS is a weak corporate good old boy. He should have been fired years ago. This problem didn't start this year. We have never had a plan. We have never been assertive as a team nor close to being able to compete in big games. We mimic our FO and have for years, weak, corporately moral, good old boy. Time to kick some *** Houston. I'm sick of it.
Edit: tell me, who is helping us from recent drafts. Look at this board. People get excited about UDFA's. The 2014 1.1 draft is a monumental bust and there was ZERO contribution from a favored waiver wire.

Not a fan of Rick Smith. He is the reason why we are so anemic in talent.

I think someone will lose their job -- either front office, coach, or a starter. Something needs to change, someone needs to be held accountable for their lack of production. JJoe, Moore, Newton, etc., etc..

Bill O is in year two. Only the Browns have cut loose a guy that early. He's not going anywhere, but depending on how the rest of the year goes he may be put on notice. My guess is that RS goes and O'Brien gets a hand in picking the replacement. Then, there will be a definite line you can point to if it doesn't get fixed.

I'm definitely not a fan of Rick Smith, but after watching so many games today, the Texans are the only team to lose by more than 15 points.

What did the Texans try to accomplish with the game plan today? Did they establish the run to shorten the game against a better opponent? Did they try to get Mallet some easy passes to get in rhythm? How did they plan to attack the Falcons' defense.

Smith should be blamed for the talent level on this team, but the game plan today was ineffective, poorly executed and coached.
