  • Bull droppings -- Texans news/notes

    Jayson Braddock ‏@JaysonBraddock
Texans are 4th in sacks per pass attempt.

Only Denver / New England / Tennessee have a higher number of sacks per pass attempt
Houston is 4th in Total Defense / Total yds per game (320.8)

Trailing only Denver (279.9), Seattle (302.2), Carolina (314.9)
Texans defense is giving up only 211.1 passing yds per game.

That's 2nd best in the NFL behind only Denver (200.0)
Texans trio of Watt (25) / Mercilus (12) / Clowney (8) combine for 45 TFLs.

That's the top trio in the NFL in TFLs. Closest is STL & MIA
Only 13 players in the NFL have more sacks than Whitney Mercilus (8.5). One is obviously his teammate JJ Watt.
Deandre Hopkins needs to average 9 catches and 141.5 yards over his last two games to beat Andre Johnson's best seasons in all three(receptions/yards/TDs) categories
In 2016 Brock Osweiler was rated last (32nd) among all QBs (>400 attempts) by ProFootballFocus and ranked 33rd/34 QBs (>200 attempts) by Football Outsiders.

I'll start posting my random cap notes here as well.

By being active in Week 16 & 17 Brian Cushing will exceed his LTBE roster bonus, team will lose $156,250 in cap space over the next two weeks. No other players are expected to exceed their specific LTBE roster bonus for 2015.

PSA: definition of LTBE can be found here: http://texanscap.com/faqs/

Play propensity report by Quarter (interesting to me)

                1st Quarter
                Rushing Play - 57.29%
                Passing Play - 42.71%

                2nd Quarter
                Rushing Play - 39.64%
                Passing Play - 60.36%

                3rd Quarter
                Rushing Play - 54.90%
                Passing Play - 45.10%

                4th Quarter
                Rushing Play - 44.66%
                Passing Play - 55.34%

Interesting on how the play calling flip flops so much.

I if that 60% passing in the 2nd quarter is because the 1st quarters have been so bad? Trying to catch up a little? I know the field position was terrible in Indy, it may have been in several other games also.

George Godsey: It's the players, not the plays. Talking about how QBs are getting up to speed.
All of my scouts tell me the same thing every year... It's the Jimmies and the Joes, not the Xs and the Os.

Cant see Godsey coming out and admitting he's way in over his head trying to call the plays...so dont know what else we would expect him to say on the subject.

But on a positive note...Love the Thread Title!!

12/24/15. High temps will hit in the high 70s with a low of 71 and a 40% of scattered thunderstorms.

Great idea to the OP and mods for making it a sticky. Makes it easy to always check this one thread going forward, good info from our members.

Why draft a qb when you can get retreads from that football powerhouse in Cleveland or Bill Belichek's leavings.....
