Default Potential Kubiak Replacements

I know it's still very early in the 2009 season, but I like speculating about things like this (since there's a 50/50 chance this might happen).

Bill Cowher
Brian Billick
Marty Schottenheimer
Herm Edwards
Jerry Gray
Tony Dungy

I'd like to see Cowher here in Houston, but from everything I'm hearing I don't think he'd come here. Brian Billick is my choice. He'll bring the discipline necessary to make this team a winner...finally. He did an exceptional job with his Baltimore teams, and I'd expect he'd do the same in H-Town.

EDIT: Accidentally clicked Cowher on the poll. My choice is Billick, though.

Bill Cowher always gives the Texans props on CBS. And there's no question he's a terrific coach.

Thumbs up ?

If Kubiak hangs himself this year and gets canned i want to bring in the most winningest coach from 1992 - 2005. He always had great teams and got the most out of his teams. He also brought up a lot of talented coordinators/coaches(Dungy, Capers, Whisenhunt....). Bill Cowher!

Cowher would be my choice but I'd be OK with all on that list except perhaps Gray. Where's LeBeau coaching now? Pittsburgh?

Changing coaches isn't going to make the players any better than they are at this time.

Herm Edward did a crappy job in Kansas City. I wasn't too crazy about him when he was with the NY Jets. I kick him off the list.

Any of the above coaches would mean completly changing the scheme we have been working on the last 4 years. This also means many of the players currently on the roster would not fit into a new scheme. Therefore, I'm concerned we could be in rebuilding mode to change personnel for a couple of years and I'm getting impatient to see this team be a contender.

Although I don't think a coaching change will happen this season, unless we really lay an egg, the smoothest transition utilizing the exising personnel would be Mike Shanahan. I think Shanahan is a better coach than Kubiak and he will get in a players face when needed.

That said, I would much rather see us running a power scheme such as Cowher and Schottenheimer run than the finesse ZBS we currently run. I think both of those coaches also prefer a 3-4 defense, which could mean more personnel changes.

This reminds me of the old saying:

"He can take his'n and beat your'n, and then take your'n and beat his'n".

It has taken us a long time but we now have many players that other teams would want. I don't think the problem is as much with the players as it is with coaching and schemes.
