Default Jairus Byrd

In your opinion, should we go for him in FA. Buffalo has shown no interest in paying him, and we could use a secondary boost. I think we could offer him a back loaded contract worth an average of 7.5 million a year.

Cut Daniel Manning, which saves 4.5
Wade Smith won't be getting paid, nor the Ninja unless they're renewed, so we will have cap space there
Ed Reed retires, saving us about 2 million, or we cut him
Sharpton, Dobbins and others won't be returning
Ask JJ to take a pay cut, since he's not worth what we're paying for him

Hopefully we move on from Schaub this year or next

That would give us

xxxxxxx Byrd xxxxx Swearinger xxxxxxx
Joseph xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Jackson

Only problem is we have Jackson and Watt contracts coming up. IDK, feel like we're screwed somewhere with cap space

The outlook on cap space isn't that bad all things considering. J-Jo hopefully will get a pay cut after this year but I wouldn't count on it. I don't see Ed Reed retiring after one season unless we don't make the playoffs or something happens to him. Luckily Antonio Smith, Garrett Graham and Earl Mitchell are the only major names that are becoming free agents after this season that would be worth re-signing. Jackson is signed through 2014. Watt's contract can be renewed after this coming season but the Texans could be a-holes and wait until year 5 to extend him.

I feel Ed Reed is the stop gap until they find their next free safety in the 2014 or 2015 draft.
