There is "general feeling" that the Vikings and Texans will re-enter trade talks involving Sage Rosenfels at the owners' meetings this week. Acquiring Rosenfels was reportedly one of the Vikings' top priorities entering the offseason, no less important than Bernard Berrian's signing. The Vikings know Houston wants a second-round pick. If they add a fifth-rounder or a CB like Marcus McCauley to their offer of a third, maybe the Texans will bite. If they added McCauley or an additional 4th round pick to the general 3rd round pick, I think you have to go with it. Sorry Sage, I think you are a great 2nd string QB, but we need draft picks.

I wouldn't mind McCauley and a third.

Look for "Slick Rick" Smith to make something good happen here! The newspaper article left no doubt the Vikings are very interested. I really like Rosenfels, and I would like to see him get a starting job at some point.

They want him badly enough that we should stick to our guns and get a second for him. If they aren't willing to deal their 2nd rounder, we should just wait till training camp when some quarterback gets injured and Sage's value flies up because of desperation.

Nah you dont get value for him. You want the pick to control your destiny via the draft or you get a talented player who can play anywhere in the defensive secondary like McCauley. A second would be great but if they offer a 3rd and 5th or a 3rd and McCauley. Pull the trigger now.

He is from the University of Miami and has versatility to play corner or free safety I believe. I may have him confused with Merriweather. I think Many were hoping he would be there for us.
I think he was a nickle back, 6ft 203lbss No ints 63 tackles and 8 passes deflected. Didn't follow much of the Vikings season, I think he did start near the end of the year as the other start cedric whatever took over for an injured Smoot. McCauley got to start when Winfield went down. I know there were people wanting to take him in round 3 if he was there.

Sage will be moved. There is no way you can convince me we signed Quinn Grey as a 3rd QB. That move was made strictly to make Sage expendable.
The Vikings are a DECENT QB away from the playoffs. With that fantastic offensive line, Adrian Peterson, and a solid defense, all they need is a decent veteran QB to win that division. I think if Rick holds his ground, the Vikings will pony up their 2nd round pick. |

IMO, I'm actually liking the 3rd and Marcus McCauley. Here is the info I've gathered from a few places: Espn Insider Grade and NFL Draft Scout's combine numbers. I think he is a definite yes:
2007 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 20 | Key Alert: None Strengths: Possesses an outstanding combination of size and speed. He is tall with adequate bulk. Aggressive cornerback that is capable of taking bigger wide receivers out of their routes with press coverage. He has outstanding burst and shows the ability to make up a lot of ground when the ball is in the air. He displays excellent balance and body control. Hips are fluid, especially for a taller cornerback. Does a good job of reading receivers' body language and of getting his arms up at the last second when covering downfield. He shows some willingness when filling versus the run. Weaknesses: Still has room to improve his footwork. Will get turned around too easily by savvy route runners at times. Will bite occasionally on the play-action and must show more discipline. He lacks ideal ball skills and will drop some passes that should be intercepted. He gambles too much and will occasionally get caught taking false steps. He doesn't always get his head around quickly enough in coverage. Seems to take too long finding the ball over his shoulder. Lacks ideal ball skills. Can be inconsistent as a tackler in space and must learn to take better pursuit angles when chasing across the field. He is aggressive in coverage but he does not show the same aggressiveness when filling versus bigger ball carriers in run support. Overall: McCauley sat out the 2002 season as a redshirt. In 2003, he appeared in all 14 games (one start) recording 11 total tackles, 0.5 tackle for loss, and two blocked kicks. McCauley played in all 12 games (10 starts) in 2004 and finished the season with 31 total tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), and eight pass-breakups. He started all 13 contests in 2005 registering 45 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, seven pass-breakups, and two forced fumbles. In 2006, McCauley started all 12 games, recording 56 total tackles, three tackles for loss, seven-pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. McCauley still has much room to grow in terms of his footwork, recognition and tackling skills. He outplayed Richard Marshall (Panthers' second-round pick last year) during the 2005 season but McCauley regressed as a senior in 2006. He got beat deep entirely too much and he seemed to mail it in emotionally down the stretch, especially after suffering a concussion versus Oregon State. With all that said, McCauley still possesses the physical tools of a premier NFL cover corner, including an exceptional combination of size, athletic ability and speed. McCauley could slip to the end of the first round or beginning of the second round, in which case he's worth the gamble as a risk-reward prospect with loads of upside. NFL Draft Scout Combine Numbers Name: Marcus McCauley College: Fresno State Number: 17 Height: 6-1 Weight: 203 Position: CB Pos2: FS Class/Draft Year: Sr/2007 40 Time: 4.39 40 Low: 4.36 40 High: 4.41 Projected Round: 2 Stock: Rated number 6 out of 220 CB's 50 / 2353 TOTAL Combine Invite: Yes Height: 6006 Weight: 203 40 Yrd Dash: 4.39 20 Yrd Dash: 2.53 10 Yrd Dash: 1.43 225 Lb. Bench Reps: 17 Vertical Jump: 36 Broad Jump: 10'09" 20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.17 3-Cone Drill: 6.61 Dates: 03/08/07 Height: 6006 Weight: 203 40 Yrd Dash: 20 Yrd Dash: 10 Yrd Dash: 225 Lb. Bench Reps: Vertical Jump: 36 1/2 Broad Jump: 10'8" 20 Yrd Shuttle: 3-Cone Drill: He would address another young corner and you can use your 2 3rds in other areas. He can't be any worse than the corners available in the 3rd just my opinion. What do you guys think? |
